You get what you pay for. The real does work very well for what it is,but the pole is junk. Anything over 5 pounds is putting a strain on this thing and you can feel the pole starting to crack. I was expecting it to stand up to alot more abuse considering how thick the base is and the amount of leverage the handle gives you. Bottom line spend the extra money and get a descent pole. Dissapointed in this one

I was hesitant to purchase this rod and reel because of the cheap price, but the reviews seemed more than reasonable. I needed to check it out in person though, so I went to the store. The reel is made of plastic which was kind of a turn off, but I couldnt judge without using it. It comes with 12lb line on it already, but I needed this rod to catch the 30 lb catfish that broke my line the night before. I was still a little hesitant to purchase it, and so I set it aside while I looked at other combos. While I was looking, a middle aged man (customer) in the isle informed me that he had this same combo, and has had it for a while. He said he made the mistake of not changing out the line when he got it, but has since done so and has caught 40lb catfish on the same combo. It seemed like it was a sign, so I purchased it along with some 50 Power Pro line. Sure enough first cast out with it I caught a 5lb cat and it served me no issues. You should be carefull with the eyelets when transporting, as they bend fairly easily, but overall I am pleased with my purchase. I would recommend this product to others

i purchased this rod on 6/2/12 in time for Rockfish season in Md, the rod works great. i replaced the reel with a Shimano reel and 20lb braid. it cast great and i have caught hundreds of fish with it since.

This is a my first rod. I had already used this rod caught two rainbow trout. So far, it is pretty good. The only problem is the line is not very smooth and you may want to change the line.

I bought this combo off of the reviews and highly meet my expectations! Pretty good reel if you take care of it. Went to San Luis Pass Galveston texas and caught plenty of fish with no problems. Nice size, not just little squirts either. The only thing, change the line. I pulled about 20 feet off to test it and I can pull it till it snaps pretty easy. I will be buying a few more for family that surf fish with me from out of town.

I bought this combo for my 13 yr old son (who's rarely gone fishing before) to start fishing on his own with his friends. I wasn't prepared to spend a lot on a pole he may very well break his first time out. lol. This combo has lasted the summer, it's simple to use & he's had absolutely no problems. I'll be buying another for next year so he can show his ol' mom how it's done :)

We purchased four of these rods via Walmart.com the week before we left for our Florida West Coast vacation. All four arrived earlier than expected. We changed the line as other reviews suggested to 25 lbs. We caught a few medium sized bonnethead sharks, 9 - 10 lbs without any problems. We landed another larger shark that we estimated to be around 3 feet long, but he slipped off the hook right as we got him to the boat. These are great rods and my family highly recommends them.

Haven't been fishing in about 20 years and decided to start back but didn't know what to buy. Bought this combo for a good price and was curious as to whether or not I should have spent more money. I can say I got my money's worth! I caught a small bream at about 2 lbs and turned around about 15 min later and caught a 10 lb channel catfish all with the same combo! The great thing was the catfish put up a good fight but with this combo it didn't take long to reel him in with little effort. Can't wait to take this to other spots for bigger fish!

I bought this combination to use for saltwater fishing on the beach and river inlets.The reel operates smoothly, drag, bail, crank and is well built for an inexpensive combo. The medium action rod will stand up to speckeled sea trout, flounder, redfish and other inshore varities. I'm using about 200 yards of 10# test. The 7' rod casts a 3oz sinker pretty well. Very pleased with this combo, so far. We will see if it holds up to the rigors of saltwater fishing.

i had this fishing rod for only 2 days today and i already love it. its the best rod to have for medium to large size fish depending on your rig and your line. i cought a 24 inch catfish with this and it was so smoth reeling it in. i sware if you dont get it you will definitly be sorry.
i also use magic bait chicken liver in chicken blood i also bought at walmart. its designed for catfish and it works like a charm.
the thing i would also recomend is

The purpose of the bigger rod is defeated by the bendable, non-durable guides. The holes that you feed the fishing line through (the guides) need to be the thicker, sturdier kind. Make a rod for the same price with the better guides, and you will sell a ton.
