BEST OF THE BUNCH

I tried three different models of Bushnell roof prism binoculars in the fifty to one hundred dollar price range. The Powerview waterproof AP 10X42MM, the Bear Grylls 8X25MM and the Bear Grylls 10X42MM. The primary use for the binoculars will be for hunting in rain or shine, warm and cold weather. So waterproof/fog proof was a must to have. All three have their limits, likes and dislikes. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa.
The 10X42 Powerview model was ok bright and focus was easy and crisp. My dislike was the reflection of light causing some clouding effects in the late evening light conditions. The outer edge of the view was not well defined. Any shaking or unsteadiness would make drastic movement in the field of view. This bino has the same adjustable eye cups as does the Bear Grylls. This is a nice feature when wearing eye glasses just twist all the way in and they work fine with glasses. The Powerview waterproof 10X42 is ok for the price but not quite what I was looking for.
The Bear Grylls 8X25 were just too small for my liking. I struggled with achieving proper adjustment for the width between my eyes either to close or too wide apart. The weight and size just didn't work well, made me think my hands were too large for the binocular. The image was clear and sharp. Field of view edge was well defined. My problem for some reason was keeping my eyes aligned so not to have black out areas in the full field of view. If compact size binoculars work well with your facial and hand features then you would be pleased with a purchase.
The Bear Grylls 10X42 is by far, my binocular of choice out of the three. The design and rubber covering give this bino a feel of being tough and solid. The weight may seem rather high to some but for me projects the assurance of quality and aids in keeping some of the shakes out of the view. The center focus knob is smooth and easy to operate. When adjusted and focused as instructed by the manual, a crisp clear image can be had all the way to the outer edge in the field of view. A wide soft neck strap makes the binocular comfortable to hang and carry. A crafty made nylon storage case has room for storage of the binoculars with the neck strap still attached. Have used this bino in light rain with no indication of fogging. The 10X42 brightness does fade out quicker in low light, a known trade-off for having more power, but very adequate for legal hunting hours. This model appears to be the same construction and specification as does the Bushnell H2O roof prism. Exception being the Bear Grylls have fully multi-coated optics. This feature is probably worth the difference in price. As for me I am well pleased with price, quality and performance of the Bear Grylls 10X42 binoculars. Nice Job Bushnell and thanks to Walmart for stocking this product.

My niece wanted her first pair of binoculars for bird watching. She loved them and said they were perfect. Easy to focus and light weight. Allowed her a new perspective on viewing nature.
