ONE YEAR LATER AND STILL LOVIN' IT!,

This handy dandy Danby is excellent. I've had mine for just a little over a year. Oh my gosh, I had hand washed dishes almost all of my life so what a blessing! It is especially wonderful when hosting my big family dinners knowing that instead of standing at the sink for 45 minutes washing all the dishes and pots and pans that I can load the dishwasher, wash a few pans/pots and then visit with my guests! I cannot say anything more about this machine as far as its pro's as for con's there are very few. Again, for those that aren't familiar with these smaller machines you have to try and envision that they fit about half the amount of dishes as a normal built in. I can fill mine with 4-5 ppl eating dinner and breakfast and run a full load everyday. There is rarely room for pots and pans however I personally do not like putting my pots and pans in a dishwasher because it affects the finish. I do often fit my small and medium size saucepans in there. Also when I don't have quite a full load but feel I need to run it I'll stick the stove top burners and grills in. Some of the rack set up is awkward but for me once I got the hang of it and used to my own dishes I make it work great. I notice that even at my bosses house (I'm a nanny) with her full size built in that certain dish styles just load awkward anyway. The other thing I'd have to say is that the racks are just a tad flimsy. I've had the rollers fall off of the one and had to stick them back on. So I am very gentle with the racks especially the top one. Other than that I love it!! It certainly doesn't have as many settings as I'd like but for heaven's sake its still 1000 times better than all that hand washing. I've run it twice in a day!! lol If there is not way to make a built in work then I highly recommend this machine! PS: one other thing, for American users do not let the "salt" dispenser confuse you. I am pretty sure this is for the European customers that have severely harsh water and must add salt (like we do with our water heaters) to soften it. Unless you have an issue with that you don't have to use the "salt" dispenser. I only use the Jet Dry dispenser and then my favorite dishwasher soap.

I ordered this product, after looking for about three weeks. I decided on it because its a very good price for a portable dishwasher! And is very portable, I just wheel it out of the way when Im done. Easy to connect, easy to load. And I have found that useing the little gel pack detergent, with the rinse aid in them, works wonders! It cleans the dishes just as great as I do by hand, which I must admit, was one of my problems with getting a dishwasher. Most of my friends, that have dishwashers, complain about water spots, and the dishes still having food on them... but, this dishwasher is fantastic in that aspect! No water spots, and clean as a whistle! There were only two things I would change, if I could. 1: the instructions tend to be a little vauge in some parts (however not too hard to figure out, if you mess with it a bit(: ) and 2: the regular wash cycle takes about 2 hours. However, for the time it takes, it definatly uses less energy, and water, and the dishes come out sparkling! Hope this helps. All in all, I'm VERY happy with this product.

I have run several loads through my Danby DDW1805W now and I am pleased though it does have a long cycle time. I am amazed at how little water it uses. Great for people with cisterns or wells. It has accommodation for water softener chemicals too. Noise level is good for the type of machine. The top is a good flat all purpose plastic surface. I used to have a Danby counter top dishwasher and was pleased with it except for it’s capacity for pots and pans. I recommend this machine for apartments.

I have had my new dishwasher for a week now and not a single dish has come out with even a speck of food on it! This thing really has some power to get the stuff off. I don't think that it holds quite as many glasses as my old dishwasher, but I'm still learning the best way to arrange the dishes in it. Overall, I'm a happy customer.

We researched alot before getting a portable, going to shops and looking online. We debated between an 18" or 24" but for two people and the space restrictions we thought the 18 would be perfect. And the Danby 18 is!!
The only issue we had was we shipped 'store to site' for the free shipping, went and picked it up, and after bringin it home and unpacking it, there were a few dents on the outside back area from shipping i assume. Debated whether we wanted to deal with sending it back for superficial dents or not and we figured it didnt hurt the working ability so we just kept it.
Works great, does take a while to cycle (but so does a normal dishwasher when you think about it, you just never pay attention to ones you dont have to turn the water off/on etc, so you never pay attention to built ins to remember how long they are in comparision) cleans with an impeccable cleanliness. Its amazing for such a small little portable dishwasher. We love it!!! Slide it near the sink, set it up, and let it go, then unplug and slide back into its little cubby area and out of the way. Oh yeah, depending on where its at in the house, the 6ft cord doesnt go very far, so you have to get it closer than i thought to the sink, but its so moveable it doesnt really make a difference or is a big deal to us. Great deal for the lower price and am 100% satisfied with the Danby.
We read some people have problems with hooking them up on the kitchen faucet but we didnt have any problems at all with it. and havent had any problems at all, unless you count having a great small lil well-working dishwasher a problem :)
The Dany is great, Id buy it over the more expensive ones if your looking for basic space saving dishwashers.

First off I wanted to say thank you to the many reviewers who wrote your opinions down--good and especially bad it really and truly helped me My review is long because I want to make sure your experience is as good as mine
I love love love love love--can I say I love this machine. I suffer from a serious disease--the can't stand washing dishes disease.
This machine has been fabulous for me and my home I cook more because I know I dont have to wash those dishes
I have no complaints --none I had it shipped to the store and within 10 minutes my beautiful d/w was there in a box with no dents, no water marks etc Perfect box!!!!!! Got it home took it out and started to use it right away and it worked BTW the box fit in the back of our stationwagon weighs over 100 lbs
It looks fabulous--not cheap, it performs extremely well like my old Kitchen Aid d/w did I have a very small kitchen and it fits so well and now I have an extra countertop The length of the cycles are fine It does take about 90 min for economy and 2 hours for pot scrubber and the cycle that cleans and dries everything
My D/w came with a sample of cascade and rinse aid and the cascade lasted 3 washes. So thank you Danby for that came in handy Also added bonus is how the hose and the electric cord are stored within the back of the machine clearly out of site
The only thing I have a problem with is loading the glasses on the top rack It says it take china and stemware but I am having a hard time getting the stem ware in there--broke 2 glasses --but thats me not the machine I got it in there once fine --should have taken a picture to remember
As for noise my desk is very very close to the kitchen and honestly it really isn't that loud with tv on I barely hear it I did read on many reviews large dishes didn't fit but mine fit perfectly For a minute I thought Id have to buy all new plates--all good The only only thing that could be a problem for some would be you'd have to really get the machine up to the sink for the connector and the cord for the plug is a bit short--could be a foot longer
I was worried after reading over 200 reviews on this item Some were rather scathing--but I took from them lessons to watch out for -if the box is damaged do not accept under any circumstances With a bad box problems like broken casters, machine doesn't wok properly or not at all If there's water in the box beware could be problems be very careful with the adpater the balls can pop out--hasn't happened to me but be aware be very very gentle when disconnecting it from the faucet and you should be fine

I will start by saying I ended up returning the product because it was just a little too big for my apartment. I did use it once and it seemed to work fine. The dishes seemed clean and dry after it ran and the adapter fit right on the faucet, no problem. It seems a little overpriced, but I would recommend it.

I love my new dishwasher. I've used an 18" dishwasher before and this new one is incredible - it washes very well and holds a surprising amount of dishes.
I love that the racks on the bottom fold down - I've been able to wash both of my crock pots - at the same time! Also LOVE that the upper rack is adjustable - it can be raised or lowered. This is a perfect feature for me. With the upper rack at its highest position, my dinner plates fit very well. With it at its lowest height I can put larger plastic items on the top shelf (my salad spinner, larger Tupperware, extra tall glasses, etc).
Now, that said ... and I will repeat that I love my new machine ... I was very disappointed when I received the machine the first time. It arrived in a very beat up box which did not bode well. Once opened, I discovered one side of the machine was dented, which I could have lived with, but the other side was so out of plumb (alignment) that I couldn't even open the door. Imagine how sad to have a very eagerly anticipated dishwasher just sitting there taking up very precious floor space in my very small apartment!
Once I made contact with a Walmart customer service person, I was able to get the machine scheduled for pick up on the next business day (I called on Saturday morning and it was picked up on Monday.) And my new machine was there by Wednesday - I think they express shipped it to me.
Anyway, it was a minor blip in a pretty much wonderful experience ... most importantly, I now have a fantastic machine that works as good as if not better than your average full sized machine. And it's Energy Star! My life is better since I've had this - not to sound too cheesy - but I feel better about cooking for myself now that I have a place to put my dirty dishes. It's just so much easier to keep my kitchen clean. If you are on the fence about whether to buy this dishwasher or not, I say go for it. Yes it's expensive, but in the long run, I'm going to be eating better and I'll have more free time. I think the cost is more than worth that!!!

We needed an apartment-sized dishwasher to replace a broken one that came with our home (replacing it with a full-size dishwasher would have meant replacing the cabinets). This one was priced right ($200 less than others we looked at). It's small, but sufficient for two enthusiastic eaters. After washing by hand for so many years I'm shocked by how clean it gets the dishes. We've had no problems in a month or two of use, but it doesn't seem quite as sturdy as full-size dishwashers we've known. The racks don't roll as smoothly as other dishwashers, and the instructions are almost indeciperable. I should note that we have absolutely rotten water pressure and temperature control, but this little guy seems to have magical powers to overcome that obstacle. If you have limited space and only a couple of people's dishes, this is a good value dishwasher.

I ordered one of these, and it arrived with significant dents on the side. The enamel was cracked and there is some rust at one of the dents. Later I noticed that the front door is not flush, because the surface that it meets up with is dented in. I ordered another, so that I could replace the first one. I figured that with that kind of abuse in shipping, it might break later. The new one came with a broken caster on the bottom. Three of the four metal brackets holding the casters were bent. These machines obviously take some abuse in transit. Because the first one has been working, I'm just sending the new one back. I thought about returning the first one as well on general principles and get a decent washer from another store, but we are only going to use this for a year and a half. It was cheap enough. I'll just cross my fingers and hope that it doesn't break. It seems like a decent deal, but don't be surprised if it arrives with some battle scars. There was also lots of moisture in the packaging and a musty smell. The box has a beaten look, the bottom of the package is wet, and the styrofoam on the bottom is broken and compressed.

There is no other portable dishwasher..,
01/13/2009
By
BarnabyJ, Virginia
Overall Rating:

out of 5
I recently moved to an older house with no dishwasher. This is coming from my last house where I had the top of the line KitchenAid dishwasher, that is quite simply a beast of a machine. No matter what I threw in there, it came out clean.
So I was going into looking for a portable, relatively spoiled by my last dishwasher. Obviously I can't expect the same performance, since portables don't have a food disposal integrated into the unit. So how has the danby measured up after a couple of months of use? EXCELLENT! While I make sure that I don't put in anything that is really big (ie pieces of fat from steaks) I don't prewash at all, and everything comes out clean.
There are many points people have made about this unit, which I was worried about, but I haven't had a problem. My unit had zero damage upon arrival. There were no leaks. The hose adapter works great, and to be honest, I'd think you'd have to try and break it to do so.
The unit is pretty quiet considering its out in the open. I usually use the normal wash cycle, and it doesn't take overly long. If I put the pots cycle on, it can take 90 minutes easy. I don't mind that though, as I'll just start it at night and leave it be. People have complained also that the unit doesn't turn off. To any thinking that this is going to mean it will run all night, no it doesn't. It will just have the power light illuminated all night, but once a cycle is over, its over.
Now, remember though what you are getting. It is a portable dishwasher, so it is smaller than a normal one. I find the top rack fills up VERY quickly in my house with glasses. Tip for the top rack. I have to leave it in the higher position for my dishes, but this limits my taller glasses into going into the middle of the upper rack. I removed the little plastic ledges that are supposed to hold cups, as the cups I have don't fit up there. Now I can put tall glasses anywhere in the upper rack. Otherwise though, it does fit alot of dishes in it considering, as long as they are not very oddly shaped, like extra deep bowls and what not.
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone needing a portable dishwasher. The unit cleans extremely well, is relatively affordable, especially given its competition (hint.. there is none, as they all don't clean as well, and are more expensive). Some may find the racks alittle cheap, and probably the controls, but they work like they should, and shouldn't break under normal usage. The money for the unit was spent into its performance, not fancy looks and a pretty control face. I personally like the simple facade for the unit, helps make it not seem odd to have a dishwasher against the wall when I'm not using it.
Hope this helps anyone who is on the fence for this unit! If you are, go buy it, and see for yourself. While you aren't going to save time with this unit in the sense that it will be faster than washing by hand, it will free up that hour or so to let you do other things, and you'll use less water in the process.
Cheers!
