It started to work great., 11/25/2009
By SiteSquirrel, Oakdale, MN
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

We picked up the Danby on Wed. night and didn't start using it until Friday and Saturday nights. Upon taking the dishwasher home, we noticed the box was wet after unpacking & we had some water in our vehicle. We figured it had been tested. It worked great on Friday and come Saturday, the dial stuck after the rince cycle for approx. 45 minutes. Then it wouldn't finish washing the dishes. We tried adjusting the dial and it still didn't finish the dishes. So we had to return the Danby Dishwasher on Saturday night. We were hoping to purchase another, but the money had to go for something else. We expected the product to be a little smaller that it was.

Wonderful Little Dishwasher, 11/19/2009
By renbeaus, Spokane WA
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

This has been my best purchase ever, I think. I have been doing everyone's dishes for the last 3 years and finally did my last one. I purchased this little appliance hoping for a little bit of help. It has been a wonderful gift. I love the water softener feature and the fact that it holds all the dishes we use in a day for our small family is especially nice. A great buy!

Fast service on line at a very good price, 11/17/2009
By 5901skingshwy, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Living in a Myrtle Beach tourist area, I am retired like a large number of residents here and many of this target market have downsized and live in smaller (than former primary residences) units like condos, park model homes, etc.. Space is at a premium and this scaled down sized dishwasher has no real competition. In fact large retailers like Lowes and Home Depot, etc. do not stock this item and even discourage any attempt to order it. Imagine how pleased I was to discover the ease of ordering the Danby on-line through the Walmart web site and being able to pick up this unit at our local superstore within three weeks and, at a very competitive price. There is also a potential market in vacation resorts for the thousands of the working population who are fortunate to have vacation second-homes at the beach with an equal need for compact dishwashing capability. This market awaits you!

Great for RVers, 11/10/2009
By labbie1, Wherever the RV lands!
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

When we purchased our 5th wheel, it did not have a dishwasher so I began looking for something to use in the RV.

I found one that looked just like this one at another store with another brand name on it, but essentially the same that was about $200 more than this one.

When I found this one at Wal-Mart at only 18" with a stainless steel interior, I decided to give it a try.

I ordered it site to store and it arrived quickly at my store.

I have used it daily since I got it to the RV and it works great! It works as well as my Asko did at my home and doesn't use much water which is very important in an RV with the small hot water tank.

While running, it does make some noise, but is not loud. I can run it and watch TV in the same space.

The dishes come out shiny and perfect without prerinsing. The top rack is easy to adjust up or down to accommodate pans or tall glasses.

A nice bonus is that it adds counter space.

I wish the wheels were just a bit bigger so that they would roll over the carpet easier.

Also, the faucet adapter than came with my unit, while metal, stated that it was a male only connection. My faucet was male threads, so it appeared that the adapter would not work with my faucet.

After running to the hardware store for the proper adapter, I found that by removing the washer from the inside of the adapter that came with the dishwasher, it works with the male faucet. It would be nice if the instruction book would have made that a bit more clear--that the faucet adapter will work with either a male or female faucet.

I found this little Danby to be just dandy and would recommend it to anyone who needs a portable dishwasher that cleans well in a tight space.

By kev12, Bay City, tx
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

The dishwasher appears to be great, but the specs did not mention that it only works with the kitchen faucet with internal threads where you unscrew the filter. Had to buy new faucet after searching for an adapter that no place had to convert a faucet with external threads to internal. Had the dishwasher 2 weeks and stilll waiting to use as I am out of town but know it will be great once the faucet has been changed out.

Danby Dishwasher, 11/03/2009
By IBuyStuff4Me
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

The dishwasher arrived at the store in about two weeks. I went on strike from doing dishes so I had a good pile of them when I got the dishwasher home. Setup was very easy and the dishwasher is quiet and worked pretty well. Unfortunately the plastic nozzle that connects the hoses to the sink broke apart after my first use. The springs and ball-bearings went flying about when I tried to disconnect it from the sink. I recovered three out of four ball-bearings and put the thing back together... It works but it hangs loose from the sink. Just very mad that it broke after my first use, so now when I disconnect it I try to be extra careful. Other than that I think the dishwasher is doing pretty good.

Received destroyed dishwasher, 11/02/2009
By BadDishwasher
Overall Rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

Even though I was concerned that this dishwasher was going to be poor quality I thought I'd give it a try. The dishwasher that showed up was completely destroyed. The shipping box had some rips and dents but wasn't in horrible shape. Inside, however, the dishwasher was badly dented on all four sides, there were actual holes in the metal which were rusting. Inside the washer there was a large amount of bad-smelling brown water and some of the plastic rack pieces were bent and broken. The whole thing looked like it had been filled with sewer water, dropped off a four story building, then packaged up for shipping. I don't believe this is the fault of Walmart.

After reading many other reviews (at Walmart and other retailers) about similar experiences I decided to just return it for a refund and purchased a different brand from another store. It was a bit more money but has been working perfectly and showed up pristine.

I'm sure some people get lucky with this dishwasher and all works great, but it sounds like either the quality control for this company or the shipping is very poorly done, likely both. As always you get what you pay for and this cheap dishwasher will probably be more trouble than it's worth.

Impressed with this product, 10/25/2009
By babej, Crestview Hills, Kentucky

I bought this for my daughter as she has a very small kitchen area. Her opinion: loved the compactness and loved the way it cleans. Only drawback, it does not dry the dishes thoroughly. She does have to towel dry dishes before she puts them away. Overall, small sacrifice to never hand wash dishes again!

Great looking appliance!, 10/22/2009
By nualla8673
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

This is a great-looking dishwasher and very portable and easy to move. The small amount of water it uses is amazing and it does an excellent job of cleaning as well. I was a little disappointed that my dishes weren't dryer when the cycle was finished. I find I have to either leave the door open a bit to let them finish air drying, or simply dry them myself. All-in-all, for my two kids and me, in an apartment, this is a great appliance.

This dishwasher has performed very well for me, even though I have only used it three times. I find that this dishwasher cleans the dishes thoroughly, I'd say its' biggest problem is space, perhaps better designed dish racks would be in order. Other than that this unit performs as it should. I am happy with my purchase.

Really wonderful dishwasher!, 10/08/2009
By GBVT
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I have been looking forward to writing this review [for the Danby portable dishwasher] because I am finding it to be an excellent appliance that gets my dishes really clean.

First, I want to say that it was easy to order from Walmart.com and pick up at the store about five days later. I was able to pull the box out of my station wagon, unpack the DW, and roll it into the house quite easily. The instructions are pretty thorough and hooking it up to the sink was easy once I installed the faucet adapter that came with the DW.

I ran the DW the first night using Ecover DW detergent and was/am delighted with the beautifully clean dishes and silverware. My only "complaint" is that glasses tend to topple over because of the way the top rack is sculpted. Other than this, I love the DW and thank Walmart.com for providing this product at the best price, and offering site-to-store pickup.

Really great, all things considered. Thank you! GB

Recently, I received Danby dishwasher that I ordered. When I unpacked the Danby dishwasher that same day, I was extremely disappointed to discover two large dents on and near the door. As a result, the door neither opens nor shuts properly. As such, I am requesting a refund for the purchase price because I received a damaged product.

Review 16 for Danby Energy Star 8 Place Settings Portable Dishwasher

Best Dishwasher Ever!, 09/20/2009
By JaneySport, Charlotte, NC
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I used this dishwasher for 1 year, let my parents borrow it for a year (when I lived in a house with a dishwasher), and have been using it again for the last few months.

It cleans better than any built-in dishwasher I've ever used. Even when you don't rinse the dishes, they come out completely clean. It dries well and leaves no residue. When I lived in an area with very hard water, the built-in water softener was great. The manual says to use dishwasher salt which is not available in the US, but kosher salt worked fine.

My dishwasher is currently full with:
1 medium saucepan
1 9 x 13 pan
1 mixing bowl
8 dinner plates
4 small plates
2 spatulas
8 glasses
1 measuring cup
2 dessert bowls
1 cereal bowl
lots of utensils

My only problem with it is that it did not fit on my last sink, so I had to purchase a $5 adaptor at Home Depot and use teflon tape. On my current faucet, I just screwed it on with my hands--no leaks. Also, my parent's found it to be too small and had to use it very frequently (they have two teenagers at home). For just me, it is perfect!

its not the best but sure it usefull, 09/15/2009
By Clinay, Mobile, Al
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

This is my very first owned dishwasher. The price is just right for my budget, the space needed is fit to my small kitchen, working good (just don't expect will completely dry).
Here some tips:
- 18" is really2 small for 4 people household and cooking.
- need to put a little bit glue around the connector to avoid leaking.
- buy salt less that $7 for 40 lbs (Morton System Saver pellet II)
- put vinegar instead jet dry as a rinse aid
One last thing: buy in Walmart! its easy, cheap and if you don't like you can return it and get full refund.

I bought this dishwasher because of its size. I live in a small apartment and don't have room for the bigger size dishwashers. I chose to buy this particular one because of the ratings that other people had put on here.

This dishwashwer is a good one! I am very pleased with it. All the dishes comes out sparkling clean. I wish I had bought it sooner than what I did.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I live in a small 3 bedroom apartment with my two children. This is the perfect size for a small apartment. The dishes are clean when they come out and pre-rinsing is not needed unless food is dried on. I do not use it for pots and pans so I cannot says how well it cleans them but I can pack it full and everything comes out clean. It is easy to use and did not make my electric bill go up much at all; and I use it almost every day.

Review 20 for Danby Energy Star 8 Place Settings Portable Dishwasher

Glad I bought it..., 08/27/2009
By MamaWhale, Baton Rouge, Louisiana... The food is always good!
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

First let me say that I did not give any five star ratings because I personally feel that there is always room for improvement. That being said, I am quite happy with my purchase. It is a little pricey... I feel that for the same money one can purchase a full size dishwasher. But the other brands/models I looked at for a lower price were somewhat "junky". I suppose the added cost comes from the stainless interior which is certainly a strong point to consider.

It is not library quiet but it is not overly noisy either. I can stand beside it and talk comfortably on my phone. And I don't have to turn up the volume on the TV to hear the news.

I have used it quite a few times now with no problems at all. It cleans quite well, in my opinion. I purposely did not rinse a small skillet that I scrambled eggs in just to see if it came out clean. I set it on the pots and pans setting and all but one small spot was clean as a whistle. I was pleasantly surprised.

Contrary to some of the other reviews I read, you can put pots and pans in there with ease. Of course, the large gumbo pot won't fit, but I have loaded a 12" skillet, 4 and 6 quart pots, large casserole dishes, large mixing bowl... not all at the same time!... but I don't use them all at once either. But items of this size will fit and still leave room for plates, saucers, glasses, mugs, etc.

It seems to be a very solid piece of equipment. It rolls with ease. It will heat your water to the appropriate temperature if your water heater setting is not high enough. I checked this by only turning on the cold water and then checked the water temperature as it was draining. It has nice clean lines. The top is a handy work surface.

All in all, I am glad I made this purchase and would certainly recommend it.
