I haven't had a chance to actually decide how good this product is because I just finished installing it (about 15 minutes ago). But it looks great with my natural wood railing. So based on that, I would say so far it's a great product.
However, I agree with most of the other reviewers. The instructions are a P.O.C. and basically a waste of time.
I quickly got overwhelmed when trying to figure out the first couple of steps. One review that I read suggested to start by mounting the hinges to the wall (or the spacer), and I completely agree. I had to use the spacers (in which the holes were pre-drilled, even though the instructions said to drill holes), so I started with those. I did not tape the template to the wall or the spacer as the instructions suggest. Instead, I used it to mark off hole locations by measuring between the hole locations. Between hole "A" and "B" is 3/4". From hole to hole on the hinge pieces (from "B" to "B" on one hinge) is 2.5". From the bottom hole of the top hinge "B" to the top hole of the bottom hinge is 18". (Double check yours just to be safe) With those measurements, I used a level to mark all of the hole locations.
After mounting the the spacer onto the wall, and the hinges onto the spacer, I started working backwards in a sense. I put the two hinge panels together to get the distance of the door way opening and THEN mounted the brackets to both of the hinge panels.
I basically only used the instructions to identify parts and hole sizes. I used a 9/16" drill bit instead of the 1/8" as the instructions suggested.
As one other reviewer mentioned, the screws will snap if you aren't careful. So, after snapping one, I learned that I should use a screwdriver (with the correct tip) to tighten all screws, and only use the drill for drilling holes. I had no problems using the screwdriver (but my hands and wrists got a good work out.)
Lastly, for step 14 which says, "Adjust the eyebolt until the distance between the latch panel and the solid wood surface (wall or wood spacer) is 13/16 (21mm)"-- the instructions were unnecessarily complex. Basically, screw the eyebolt all the way in until you've reached the end of the thread. That should give you the approximate 21mm. Adjust if necessary.
I hope the pictures help too!
I hope the manufacturer reads these reviews. They seriously need to start completely over with writing the instructions.

The instructions are terrible. Very flimsy in the middle. Suppose to be used at top of stairs but design is not practical for this use. Matches the stairs nicely, for that I am very pleased.

I like the look of it, however I don't like where the handle is position to open it, unless you just lift up on the gate, squeezing the latch is a little tricky. Also screws sent along with the gate didn't screw into the predrilled holes which made it difficult to assemble.

Gate is fine - although latch mechanism is cheap and hard to operate. Throw the instructions away. Three different languages and you still can't understand them. It took 2 1/2 hours for a knowledgable person to install.

This is decent quality and looks nice. It matches our decor and it's what we expected. From other reviews, we knew it would not be easy to put up. After a couple of holes in the wall, we did manage. It will do the trick for now. It's nice to have the open gate so my two younger kids (ages 5 and 3) can open it on their own without assistance from us. It's sturdy enough so if they hang on it and pull on it, it won't break.

Looks nice, cheap parts all plastic, you only need to lift up on the latch side of the gate about 1/2 inch and you can open the gate without using the latch, hope the baby don't figure that one out.

This gate meets our requirements perfectly. The wood looks good and we like that it swings open all the way BUT the directions are not written well. Do not take their advice and size the gate to fit the opening, you need to take the attachements into account and make it an inch to an inch and a half smaller. My husband had to take it down and resize it to make it fit correctly. Now that it is up, we are quite happy with it!

We didn't end up being able to use the gate. It wasn't clear on the product information, but if you have a baseboard at an angle and bannister with trim this gate won't work for you. It needs completely flat wall surface on both sides to attach to.

I am VERY HAPPY with the Evenflo wood swing gate. It is solid wood and very sturdy. We actually own 2 of them. One is at the top of the stairs so our 1 year old doesn't fall down. It swings open only one way but you can put the hinge on either side of the wall you want so the opening can either be on your left or right side. So that's nice. It's not like those cheap gates you buy where they are wobbly. We are very happy with this!

This gate looks great, is very sturdy, and works well over a wide range of of door openings. It is easy to open and when closed it latches automatically. Assembly takes a bit of extra work because it is designed to accomodate a different opening sizes and still remain sturdy. It would be nice if the unlatching slide had a spring return but it works well once you understand that the slide must be lowered completely to begin the unlatch process.

The gate is on and it's serving the purpose. However, the instructions are pathetically written and wrong. Don't follow them. Don't screw the metal brackets on the sections before you measure the opening. The hinges are flimsy and the whole gate could've been designed better and not have a huge overlap of one section over the other. The system to open the gate is really badly designed. Not well thought out at all. It's very hard to open even for an adult. Not very handy and not very practical if you have stuff on your hand and try to open it. In other words, for the amount of money that it costs, you would think that they could give you something better.
