I believe this is a great product, did not activate it due to unable to port my old number. went on line to activate every thing went smooth, set up the unit to finish the process, in about a hour I rec a call from strait talk saying they could not port my number something about Verizon, didn't understand the reason. so I unhooked every thing and returned it to my local wall mart and rec a refund. wall mart is great to do business with.

This Straight Talk wireless Home Phone Unit worked right from the start. I had absolutely no problems with it. I charged up my home phones (they were new) and plugged it into this Straight Talk Unit and everything has been working well since. I have my base phone in the bedroom and my sattelite phone in the livingroom. On occasion there is a little static but only when it rains and it's not really enough to complain about. AND YOU CAN'T BEAT $15. OR $30. A MONTH.

I live in a place with little cell service and I purchased this. The raining makes it a little difficult to get a signal. Other than that the reception has been great and no problems so far. Good investment.

Note: 1) Phone device makes an "artificial dial-tone" to mimic a landline phone. That dial-tone has a bit of static in the tone, but calls are crystal clear like my cell phone! You plug this into any open phone jack to house and all phones are tied to this. (make sure there is NO power on phone system or your may burn up this unit.)
2) Manual states this system "IS NOT FAX MACHINE compatible."
3) Manual states this system "MAY NOT BE COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR HOME ALARM SYSTEM."
4) This system is running off VERIZON cell towers. Which in my area (CHARLOTTE, NC) it is excellent.
5) This system does sate "IS NOT caller-name ID compatible." ONLY SHOWS NUMBER CALLING not name and number.
6) This system has a house plug-in box-transformer that plugs into wall to charge the included rechargeable battery. Battery last 36 hours on stand-by, talk time without transformer plugged-in is 2 hours.
7) This system has a signal strength indicator. States to put by a window. Note that if your verizon cell service works great indoor, so will this. I have straight talk ATT cell, but friends have verizon and their's verizon cell work great at my house so I knew I was good to go.

Why I bought: I got this to use as a second-home phone. I had an OLD number that I have been porting over to my new number for 5 year which was costing an insane amount of money each month (30 bucks just for call number porting! Could not even answer on the number or call out via number, I had this done before the FEDs past the "MUST ALLOW PHONE PORTING to new service provider law" ) Now I have my number BACK where I can actually use it for calls again!

I used this type of home phone (from another company) for two years and absolutely love it. When traveling I throw it in my suitcase and take it wherever I go. No one ever knows that I'm not at my home since that's the number they're calling me at. This actual unit was purchased for a friend who's in a nursing home that doesn't provide phone service to its residents. She's thrilled with this phone also as well as the staff.

A good deal with limitations

The monthly cost is great but it comes with limitations. This type of phone cannot be the only phone you have. It is not as dependable as a hard wired land line. Sound quality: According to the signal coverage map where we live we should get a good signal but we only get a fair signal. As a result the audio quality is not the greatest -like a cheap cellphone. Dependability: Within 6 months of use the phone failed to ring for incoming calls 3 times and stopped working once -do to "insufficient funds" (which was not true.) Customer service was quick to fix these things but you need another phone to call them. Answering machines and voicemail: We like using our answering machine and not the voicemail. If you setup the voicemail it will pickup before your answering machine. Even with the voicemail not setup it still ends up picking up a few calls. (Voicemail cannot be turned off.) Even with these issues and problems I will keep the phone for the official "home phone" ,for the kids to use and for calls that I do not want to make or receive on my cellphone. Also -Customer service is all foreign and has multiple menus to go through; and there is no direct number for the homephone product; so you end up going to mobile phone service first then get transferred. But the wait is to get to a real person is short.

Great replacement for VoIP device

We purchased this as a replacement for a NetTalk Duo that proved to be unreliable.
We are getting full signal strength most of the time and are pleased this doesn't use the Internet to communicate.
StraightTalk's Home Phone is a TracFone device which uses the cell towers of all the major and regional cell phone carriers which is why it works almost everywhere. Check out TracFone's website at www.tracfone.com to see their coverage map.
Before purchasing this unit, we tried a similar device from Sprint but couldn't get a consistent signal. We considered AT&T's device which is free with a two-year contract but the monthly fee is $20 instead of $15. At the end of two years the cost for both devices and service is the same; however, starting with year three, StraightTalk will save us $5 per month over AT&T. We believe StraightTalk's coverage is better and there is no contract.
My husband is a senior network engineer whose customers rely on him for their network and communication service advice and support. He's happy with this device at this time. If it proves to be unreliable, I'll update this review.
CONS: The dialtone is loud but we can live with it since the service is reliable.

It works great. I have two wireless base sets that handle three phone each. All of the jacks in my house are wired to a gang box. All I had to do was disconnect the wire from the telephone service I was using and plug a telephone wire from a wall jack to the Straight Talk router. Every phone in the house works just as well as before. Activation was simple and they ported my number from the other service in only 2 days. I use the $15/month unlimited plan with auto renewal every month. This is an excellent telephone system and I am very happy that I decided to give it a try. It will save a lot of money.

The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because I choose to get a new number from them and now whenever I call anyone their caller ID comes up with someone else's name . I called straight talk and the women really tried to help but it is still coming up with someone else name. The survice is really good . I droped my cell phone plan down and I can call anywhere in the USA for $15.00 a month. Unlimited minutes. I only use my cellphone now for use when not at home. I live in a rural area and was skeptical that this product would work where I live. I read all the product information here online before I bought it. I typed in my zip code to find out if I could receive service in my area, and it showed that I could. I was still a little skeptical. The Walmart associate was very helpful advising me that Verizon towers are used and that I could return it in 15 days if I was not totally satisfied. Set up was very easy and it even works with an old cordless phone that I have. I've called different family members and had no problems at all. They said they could hear me crystal clear and I could hear them also, crystal clear! Compared to what I used to pay for local and long distance service this device will pay for itself in 2-3 months.

The Straight Talk Wireless Home Phone lets me use handsets that I have used for at least two years on a land line, and it works so well that I bought a second unit for use at another location where I occasionally spend days to weeks at a time before returning home. Both have unique phone numbers that it took only a few minutes to set up in each place, using my cell phone and laptop. It now costs me less to have a "home phone" in both places than a single land line.
Now, the reasons this review's overall rating is only four stars:
1. The signal quality is not perfect. Vocal quality is great, and I have had no problems with it, but the unit has LED indicators that are supposed to beam steadily when a good signal is acquired. Neither unit has done that yet. They still blink, indicating a signal search.
2. The unit can legally only be used as a home phone and not a wireless cell phone, so I can't take it with me to use elsewhere without changing my phone number to one assigned to the other locale. I think it has to do with 911 service, but I really do not understand the reasoning. That's why I now have two units.
3. It can only be used for voice, not data or fax.

As soon as my phone was switched over I lost my broadband. No one had mentioned that in any of the reviews that I read. So to save $10/month on my phone bill, I lost my internet. I had to switch back or pay an even higher bill just to have my broadband back from Centurylink.
The product is great and works on a great principal but there was a problem..
