Even though it requires a little of prep work, like picking up toys and setting the limits, I am really thrilled with this cleaner. It picks up pet hair and dust quite well on carpet as well as hard floors. My 15 year old upright vacuum died a slow death. Now instead of getting a new one, I will get a small one to clean the corners and the few areas this one does not reach. Now I am looking for one of these to mop the kitchen floor. Maybe someday. Thanks to the wonderful people who designed and perfected this product.

I own a Roomba vacuum and it does a good job. The Neato greatly out performs the Roomba. The only disadvantages are that it is slower (more methodical) and louder. The battery life isn't as long and has to recharge sooner and more often to finish a room but it does it automatically. It does a much better job at getting most of the dirt and pet hair from the carpet.
Since I've only had it for about 3 weeks time will tell how long it will last before the 1st repair.

I have long hair and two cats. I should sweep the floors every day but that's not realistic...until now! I set this Vacuum in whatever area I want it to sweep and away it goes. Considering what comes out of its dust bin, I don't know how I lived without it. It's very easy to use; however, my floor plan is wide open and it can't hit all the areas at a time. What I've learned to do is set it at various outlets around the house and block its access to areas that have already been vacuumed. I do wish it had come with a longer length of "do not cross" band. Nevertheless, I'm thrilled with my Neato!

First "RoboVac"

So far so good. We have only had the XV-21 for a few weeks. So far we have only used it when we are available to help it if needed. We have not used the scheduled cleaning feature so not sure how well that will work for us. We have only cleaned with the XV two or three times but it does work as described and vacuums quite well for such a small vacuum. We have a 1500 sq. ft. home that has a mix of hardwood and tile floors. We have three indoor cats so we have plenty of vacuuming to do. We do have one large area rug in the family room and some smaller rugs in various locations. At this point we seem to have our best results when we use the magnetic strips to section off the rooms instead of trying to let the XV vacuum the entire house. It can work on one room while we do things in other parts of the house. It does seem to work the best when it has fewer obstacles to navigate. It expends to much battery life adjusting its path around chairs, etc. The more obstacles you remove from a room before you begin the better your results. It is amazing how much stuff the vacuum picks up. Can't speak to durability at this point (even though I rated it "good") but the XV seems to be very well made. We are impressed so far. I did buy the extended warranty from Wal-Mart just in case there is a problem (seemed like a good value). We only paid $290 on-line from Wal-Mart since it was an "open box" which is the reason I gave the XV "excellent" for value. I would have had a hard time paying full price. I am optimistic about the XV and hope it continues to work well.

I love the job this little gal does and am continually awed by watching her perform.
My only complaints are that the battery does not last long enough to clean all the rooms in my one level home and that she isn't able to "climb" over the slight elevation between my tiled floors and wood ones. I have put a mat in the door way and this helps but she still struggles.

Went through 3. Battery never lasted more than 20 minutes. Neato kept trying and I give them credit for their customer service but I needed the advertised 40-60 minutes per charge to get my house done. It only goes 3 charges before resetting. I wanted to love this but just couldn't work with it.

First the bad news: The unit that I received would hold a charge for 30 minutes, so for my 800 sq foot place, all hardwood floors + tile, it would take 3-4 hours to finish cleaning (because it takes 2-1/2 hours or so to recharge). Apparently it was a defective unit it's supposed to hold a charge for about an hour or more. After the 2nd day, it started cleaning erratically - not finishing but say its done, or trying to find the charger in the wrong room, and even ignored the barrier strips I laid down (that comes in the box). So, I exchanged it for another open box. Walmart sent me a return label for this and immediately shipped me a replacement. The next one I got charged, then immediately turned itself off. The only way I could wake it up was by shaking it, and the message said it had to reset itself. The it shut off again. Obviously, also a defective unit. I thought I'd save myself $100 or so by buying an "open box" item. But what I've done was I've wasted a lot of time. I contacted Walmart again, they sent me another return label.
The good news: The customer service from Walmart has been excellent. I have not experienced such prompt and courteous customer service from any online company ever. The reps are friendly and helpful. Both times, they understood the problem and offered to help, whether I wanted an exchange or a return. And you know with most online ordering, the company has to receive the return before they will send you the new item, or you have to pay twice? Not so with Walmart - they send the exchange immediately after you "sign" electronically agreeing to send the original item back, and if it isn't sent back by a certain period of time, you agree they can charge you for it. The period of time is really long -- like two months.
So, given all of that, I am not going to exchange this for another open box item. Instead, I'm going to get the NEW item - which I am hoping is not defective because it is not "open box," and I am ordering it from Walmart because at least I can be assured of great customer service. When I get the new item, and use it, hopefully I'll be writing a review of the NEW item that is totally positive. Because when the first unit that I got was actually working (though not holding a charge), it did a good job vacuuming the entire condo, around all the furniture. And my cats were not scared of it.

We've had this product for 3 wks now and we absolutely LOVE the fact that it cleans very well (though it cannot get the last 1 1/2 inches closest to an object or wall. It is louder than I expected, but perhaps this means it is "powerful".
The Neato vaccum learns the room and it's shape after just a first "run" and it doesn't seem to miss any spots, (sometimes going over the same spot twice). I am very pleased with the quality of the cleaning that it does. The vacuum dust/dirt trap seemed somewhat small initially (since the FIRST cleaning gets up a LOT of dust/dirt/etc) but then by the third pass over our house, the trap only becomes perhaps 1/4th full each day it cleans. The dirt trap is NOT too small once the floor have been well vacuumed. I blow the filter out with an air hose and that seems to work well (I'm not sure it can be washed...?)
The first unit we were sent became defective after three weeks (a wheel became jammed), but the units computer told us what was wrong with it and Neato sent us a new unit without questions and this was worth a LOT to me. It alleviates a lot of fear to know a manufacturer will stand behind their product. (I bought the 3 yr walmart plan as well). I will probably buy one of these for each of my children for christmas next year since my wife and I enjoyed it so very much.
We told a neighbor about our unit and how much we like it. They bought a Rumba and also like it a LOT as well. We can't compare the two since we don't know much about the other manufacturer.
I place the VALUE at 3 bars since the unit is fairly expensive (I thought) but think that it is certainly a fair deal for what you are getting.
I gave it full marks on MEETS EXPECTATIONS since it really does meet all of our expectations (perhaps even better than we hoped it would be).
I gave it only three marks on DURABILITY since the first unity only lasted 3 weeks, otherwise I would not really have known how to rate it since one looks at durability in hind-sight over a relatively longer period of time than we've had the unit.
I gave it all marks on APPEARANCE. I think it is a good looking unit, though I would not care if it had been somewhat ugly. I care that it does what it is supposed to do.
I gave it full marks on MEETS EXPECTATIONS since it really does meet all of our expectations (perhaps even better than we hoped it would be).

I would recommend buying this unit (despite the durability marks) but would buy the walmart repair guarantee (thus the unit can have a shorter life-span if you need the home cleaned twice daily -- over three years, this would add up to a LOT of usage!!).
P.S. My wife has asthma so the unit is part of our plan to decrease allergens in our home. We also bought mattress and pillow covers from Bed Bath and Beyond. Also recommend the near hepa grade air filters at home depot (with a cheap wal-mart filter on top of the better filter to allow the hepa-grade filter to last longer before changing it).
I recommend this unit to anyone considering a robotic vacuum.

I LIKE THE PRODUCT, AND BOUGHT IT AS A GIFT FOR MY DAUGHTER. HOWEVER I HAD BOUGHT ONE FOR MYSELF FROM WALMART IN EARLY DECEMBER 2012, AND LOVED IT. I HAVE USED THAT NEATO FOR A LITTLE OVER 1 MONTH. While using the vacuum for the first time, I followed it around the house amazed at how it worked! I checked my rugs & they were super clean. Now I just turn it on & do something else that I need to do. Make sure it has enough room to redock itself when it needs charging. It did get stuck once between two items & I had to free it, but other than that, it really is a great product. I am very pleased with it & highly recommend it. It is great at getting that pet hair you don't see!

The NEATO is easy to operate and does a great job of cleaning. I had a Romba a few years back and it broke. I was very disappoined and try to buy a new battery and it still did not work. The NEATO has a better container that catches the dirt and it is easy to empty. The Neato having a square side really makes a difference cleaning along the wall.

Let's face it, most of us will not vacuum everyday though we may want to. Let Neato do the work for you. I programmed ours to vacuum downstairs while we sleep. I LOVE waking up and walking into a freshly vacuumed room. Our home has pergo, carpet and tile. Neato handles any surface. We also have a couple cats and I am so glad to have help cleaning up the bits of kitty litter that seem to find their way all over the house.

Works very well. Only have had her for a week+. She is a cleaning machine. Dog hair is almost a thing of the past. Now only if she could climb up on the couch and take care of that. A little noisy, that is the only complaint. She is a fairly new member of the family so cannot give her the 5 star rating yet.

Pasquale (our bot's name) is fantastic. Goes from hardwood, over area rugs, in & out of bathrooms & bedrooms sucking up pet hair and debris like a dream...make sure you clean the bin often. Yeah, sometimes Pasquale can't find it's way home, but hey, whaddaya expect? It's covering a lot of surface area. Check out the reviews on YouTube.
