I used this as a purchase to replace my mother's aging and ailing small form e-machines basic computer. I ended up replacing the HDD 1 Terabyte drive with an SSD Kingston 120 GB Hyper X solid state drive and replaced the wired mouse and keyboard with a Desktop 5000 Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard. With the Windows 8 and SSD drive, the boot up time is approx. 5-10 seconds and shut down time approx. 3 seconds. There is no comparison between this computer and her retired computer-kind of like comparing a Ferrari against a Yugo.

I purchased this computer on line and had it shipped to store.. It starts up fast and had to get used to windows 8. I added a start button to mine for my wife to use. It streams movie great from netflex and vudu in HD. I had to upgrade mine to windows pro because it does not come with media center. $100 extra. I wanted to record over the air TV. Its works great for all my needs.

Watching streaming videos with this computer makes me feel like a kid seeing color TV for the first time...no choppiness, no stuttering, no blurry fight scenes.............
The processer is about twice the speed of the lowest end computers they sell at Wal-Mart, and therefore well worth the extra $100.
Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but the main thing to know is that you can click on "desktop" and things go back to normal. If you get back to their new "Start Screen", just mouse over to the bottom left of your screen and a desktop thumbnail pops up...click on it to return to the desktop.

I strongly advise you to NOT get this computer. Mine is already returned after 3 days of attempting to resolve issues. The speed of this computer is so poor it crashes when trying to watch a simple video on youtube. I usually only use my computer for facebook, email, and simple tasks and it could not even handle those! My Ipad runs faster and better than this Gateway!!

Works awesome. Fast and easy set up. Using a standard flat screen for a monitor, the mouse and keyboard that came with the unit have wires so I bought wireless to clean things up. Windows 8 is not that hard to get used to, there is a "desktop" icon you can click on to go back to old windows easily. There are several u tube sites that have windows 8 tips that helped me out quite a bit, nicks computerfix was one that helped me.

It was to replace my 4 year old Dell xps studio 8000. So far it hasn't disappointed, (this is actually the 2nd choice, I first bought the gateway w/monitor package, and it was sooooo slooow, I couldn't even do simple games.) So returned it and got this one. Video card is great. It came with a free game called Dirt3, and it's been playing flawlessly, the graphics are amazing and don't slow the computer down.. The only downside, is getting used to windows 8, but eventually like all new operating systems, you get the hang of them. overall really nice system. (wish it came with a monitor) LOL

The only real reason I wanted a desktop computer was to play The Sims 2, and the Gateway pretty much does what it needs to do. As a plus, the processor makes internet surfing quick and efficient - a much more satisfying change than surfing using my laptop. If you're on a budget and don't want to build your own computer, and are not looking into hardcore gaming, this computer's just fine.

This is the second desktop that I owned I love better than the old one {which was breaking down) than I had before! It was so easy to setup & to configure to my wireless router. All I had to was type in the SSID code & the wireless network key on the setup page, completed it & it connected to the Internet. Since it has Windows 8 which is a added bonus for me-it is so easy to use & navigate. It's fast, quick & starts up splendidly & to mention the web pages pop the same way! It's fully loaded with 1TB hard drive, DVD Super Drive, removable hard drive, 6 USB 2.0 ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, Bluetooth technology & HDMI! Great Value indeed! Best birthday present I ever got!

I've been very happy with this computer right out of the box for our family. It's quick and responsive and took no time to hook it up to my wifi and my wireless printer. It pretty much sought out those items on its own and with a few clicks, they were both hooked up.

Lots Of Bang For The Buck!

Was looking at another brand of desktop computer at Wal-Mart with similar specs but the price was over $100 more for fewer features. Compared them and this Gateway just had more. I figured the worse that could happen is I would have to return it if I didn't like it.
Works like a charm, love that it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the fastload for adding a second hard drive is pretty darn neat
Plenty of processor speed and ram for most needs. USB 2 and 3 ports are nice, more available than most other brand computers.
Windows 8 was easy to get setup and running right from the start and is a nice enhancement for the machine. Gateway added some features to Windows 8 that makes shutting down/restarting so much easier and faster. Computer took about 10 minutes to hook everything up, about 15 minutes or less to load and go thru setup. Up and running. Wi-Fi found and connected to my home network and internet immediately and has strong signal strength; 20+ feet from wireless router and one wall between.
Very little "bloat ware" and it was all easy and fast to remove. Every bit of my old software and programs setup and run; either from disks or just went to sites on line and installed drivers.
Wireless printer that was on Windows 7 installed quickly and works perfectly just by going to website and installing latest drivers from there.
I would say that within an hour of opening the box, the computer was running with everything, a little tweaking for personal tastes and habits and it's running great.
Down side, I don't care much for wired keyboard and mouse and this is what comes with computer, so hooked up wireless keyboard and mouse I already had. No problems; plug & play
If you already have a good monitor or don't mind buying one separately, this is a good, very good deal on a desktop computer.
For me, it was a pretty good deal, I'm one who will return something pretty quickly if I don't like it or something about it, or at the first hint of problems.

Still getting used to the new windows. Miss my sidebar and such. The graphics are comparable to the price. They keep up with most gaming, but if you are looking for high graphic quality what is built into the computer won't quite cut it. However, given the price that is to be more than expected. Over all a good computer, and excellent value for the price.

We had two HP computers and both of their video cards went out in the mother boards within 1 year of purchase. One of them was returned to HP and sent back to have the same issue 3 months later. We trashed those computers and bought 3 of these computers for our household. This was the best buy I ever made. They work fantastic for online gaming.

I needed a computer that had a large memory for my music and photos but also not hard to figure out to use. I have this computer for a week and a half now, I am still learning it. It did not take long to assemble as the instructions were simple and to the point. With all the Windows 8 apps available, it is a ongoing thing to find out which ones are useful. But the apps for search engines I ignored, as they made it difficult to go from page to page when you click on a link on a email. I solve that by downloading mozilla firefox for yahoo and Chrome for google and left Internet Explorer for Bing and MSN. When I first turn it on, it went to a screen where I was able to register the computer with Gateway. This I did not expect at all. This computer also solved a problem with my old computer and my printer as I was not able to print anything from my computer. I did not know which device was the culprit for not able to print(It was able to print by itself) from my old computer. As I connected the printer to my new Gateway, I had no trouble.
