Great GPS to wreck your RV
By KiteboardDude ,
Positive: Really big screen. Neg: Everything else! Setup for 15K 42'L 13'H 5thWheel. It tried to route me through a known propane restricted zone, then tried to route me through a low bridge (11' clearance#. Maps are current, restrictions both in-place over 20 yrs. Contacted Magellan and they blamed their map provider. My 8 yr old Tom-Tom is more accurate and user friendly. Volume is not speed sensitive, and your voice choices are limited to only one that sounds like Siri on my iPhone. I selected this GPS over many others with similar screen size and features but this got the best reviews. Not sure why anyone would give this more than 2 stars unless Magellan was paying them. Free maps equates to 2 updates per year and free traffic works only if traffic data is being broadcast over radio waves. Traffic has never come on once #even while stuck in it#.I waited 3 months after asking customer service to address the issue before submitting this review - no reply. As a Good Sam member I am disappointed they would allow her name to be placed on such an inferior product.

Review 2 for Magellan RoadMate Pro 9165T 7" Portable GPS with Free Lifetime Traffic
Cross country trip
By NorthernCaifGrandma ,
Currently Defuiak Springs FL returning to No.Calif
I purchased this at the start of our cross country trip from Northern CA to Orlando Fl.
Our total length is 60 ft and our height is 13’4”. It took some getting used. Example: At interchanges she would say stay to the left. So I would get in the left lane – oops! There are 3 lanes going left and 2 going to the right including the slow lane which is typically where I stay. This happened several times before I realized if I looked at the screen I would see how many lanes there are. So now I look down to check the screen. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn’t! Biggest problem has been when she says stay to the left followed by . . . too much time going by before I hear the stay to the right! When you’re in a state that has a towing speed of 70 mph you come up on the stay to the right rather quickly! And when there is traffic, well let’s just say that since I’m larger than most I put my turn signal on and start moving over.
The over speed limit has been frustrating. The hwy sign will say 60 mph but the GPS says 55. I originally set it to notify me when I was 5 mph over the speed limit. I did 5 mph over because in some areas they look for out of state plates! So she’s constantly doing the “WARNING… WARNING…WARNING” Gets quite annoying. I have since changed the setting to 5 mph over on surface streets & 10 mph over on hwys.
I’ve used most of the other functions also. To find a station that has diesel AND where I can get under there awning has been interesting! So far the height setting hasn’t worked for me. So I stay to truck stops, if they can get under so can I. Prior to getting the GPS I missed a turn and had to go under a train crossing with a posted height of 13’6”. Looked in my mirrors & saw all the traffic behind me stop, well behind me, as I went under!
I like being able to choose the settings I want. Ie. Avoid toll roads, fastest route, most freeways etc. In San Antonio TX the traffic ahead came on. I clicked on bypass which saved a lot of time. I would have been stopped for quit a while, due to an accident, without it.
The restaurants, stores, entertainment, camp ground etc. settings have all worked well and have come in very handy!
Over all I’m very pleased with it. Wish it had a setting for % grades ahead. After burning my brakes going into Death Valley and seeing a motor home burn up at the camp ground because their brakes got to hot, I purchased the Mountain Directory for the West & East Coast which has saved me! Better to know ahead of time which gear you need to be in then to find out afterwards when you’re going to fast and you can’t downshift!
