This computer is great for the price! It starts up fast and has great speed. Faster than a Dell I used recently. The only complaint I have is that the speaker volume doesn't go that high. I have had this computer for over a month now, I use it almost every day and love it.

I got this computer for my birthday & LOVE it!!! It took several hours to upgrade to windows 8. It has been several years since I had a new computer so I am still learning the new features & windows 8. I am not a computer genius by far but am finding it to be friendly even to me.

i am very pleased with my laptop. It has great speed and the features are nice for the money. The only thing I have had to get used of is the number pad on the left side, I keep putting my fingers on the wrong keys, but I am getting used of it and it you are typing numbers it is nice.

The specs are generally pleasing. But take note that the battery life given (I think it's about 4 hours) is measured at the power saving setting.
I like the laptop overall, but I'm so turned off by the sound of the speaker compared with my 4 yr old Toshiba which I also paid $350 for, that I'm likely to return this.
I can't believe in this day and age that Gateway/Acer can do this to customers.

I bought this specific laptop about two months ago, and it was my first laptop ever. It arrived within four days, and I've used it non-stop since. I'm a gamer, and I had almost instantly downloaded the games that I had played on the shared desktop that I had been using previously, plus a few other games as well as one messenger. The quality of the games, though some online games have been set on low quality, are still amazing to look at. It's almost like the quality had never been put down on the lowest possible setting. There's no lag, the internet loads quickly. I can be running five taps on internet explorer, running a non-online game and chatting to a friend and it still run smoothly.
As far as cons for the computer go. Over-extended use does make it overheat, and online games do tend to overheat it, but that was common knowledge for me so I knew what I was getting into with that part. Battery life is what I expected it to be, which wasn't all that great. Though I really don't mind having mine plugged in for the rest of its life.
All-in-all, I really love my laptop. The normal cons of bad battery life, and overheating. It's the pros that make me the happiest laptop owner ever. Fast speed, lots of space, still great visual qualities even on the lowest setting, and the ability to be a gamer.

I ordered this product when a laptop I had been using for 4 years crashed with no hopes of recovery. I am most impressed with the speed in which I received the product. A delivery date of 11/19 or 11/20 and I received this laptop on 11/17. WOW!
Took the laptop out of the box, plugged it in and was up and running in less than 5 minutes. Considering I have only had this for an hour or two it would be unfair to rate/review this without keeping that in mind. I am no fan of laptop keyboards or track pads so I have plugged in an external keyboard and mouse. This is not the type of computer I am used to. It is missing a lot of the bells and whistles, most of which I never used. For the price it seems to be one of the best values out there. I went with Gateway due to the fact that I have had two other laptops bite the dust and every time I need a back up I plug in a 12 year old Gateway desk top that never fails me although it is annoyingly slow. Will be putting the desk top back in the closet and working with this laptop. Hopefully I will have half as much luck with this one as my desk top!

Ordered this laptop on the internet on 11/2 and received it on 11/6, three days earlier than promised.
Bought it based on users' reviews and am very happy with it. I watch Netflix, play games, check email, etc. and have found it meets all my needs. Have set up Skype and talked to my grandson. It is as fast as my desktop.
My only problems have been (1) the sound – too low, but fixed it with headphones or speakers from an old computer and (2) getting used to the keyboard. I found the touchpad was frustrating so solved that problem by adding a mouse.
Great value.

This a great computer . Recieved in mail and set up was quick. I do see that the dvd door is tight and not easy to open but is a simple problem. key board is great and over all operation is smooth . This computer is very fast I plan to add more memory just because I can. Game playing is great. I would suggest this computer. The average user as I am will be very happy. Please also know that this is a gateway /acer . Dont really know how this works but it is great.

At first i was hesitant about getting a gateway.. had it for a week and I'm loving it! The only con would be the speakers it is not loud at all, its best to use with headphones or buy external speakers.

The sound is not very good on my computer. I have to have it at its loudest range just to barely hear what is being played. My old HP laptop had a great sound system, I wish this did too!
Also, the power plug could be a little more substantial. When using laptop while plugged in and charging - the plug loosens and the screen dims! This is my second plug, the first one did the same. Poor design in my opinion.
Other than these two issues the computer is great and a very good value!

I am very happy with my recent purchase of this computer and would recommend it without reservation. Quite honestly, while waiting for the computer to be delivered (Walmart had free delivery...it came 3 days earlier than expected, so that was a bonus), I was having "buyers remorse". I kept thinking that it has to be cheaply made for the price I paid. I also thought that I should have just sucked it up and shelled out a little more money for a "name brand" computer. However, when researching laptops, this laptop and brand consistantly got great reviews, so I thought I'd give it a try. Wow, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box! It looked very nice! It's light in weight. Does not get hot #unlike my HP pavillion which would heat up very quickly...it would leave a red mark on my lap#. The screen is nice and the graphics are great! Start up is quick, along with browsing the internet. The only thing that I'm having a hard time with is the keyboard. I don't know if it's me trying to get used to a different keyboard, or if the keyboard is weird itself, but I've been having a hard time typing. It's also hard to type/use the keyboard when the room is dark because the keyboard is not lit. It really is NOT a big deal to me, as I'm sure I will adjust, but thought I'd mention it. I wouldn't let that prevent you from buying this computer as it is a really great value and everything else about it has been wonderful.

I've been using this laptop for almost a week. It works nicely. If you don't wanna invest too much on a laptop, I highly recommend you to buy this one. It seems to be a good laptop for Finance major students. It has a big comfortable keyboard with an extra numerical keypad. The arrow keys are little bit uncomfortable, but it is not a big deal for me. The look in great. So for basic life, such as using Microsoft Office, surfing web, watching movie and listening to music this is a good laptop.

let me start by saying that l am an older adult who is more tech savvy than most of my peers. that said, you need to beware of microsoft windows 8. navigation is more than a little difficult. l finally gave up on it and am returning the computer. my wife's HP starts much faster than this gateway (acer) and this laptop does not have the ability to open .doc files unless you buy microsoft office. l am going to attempt to buy a laptop with windows 7. failing that, l may go to apple mac, something l never thought l would consider. again, the learning curve with windows 8 is very high if you're not a 16 year old. l just have the feeling that format might work with students having a tablet, but not the folks who use a laptop.
