The number one learning tablet just got better. LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer inspires kids to imagine and explore with front-and-back cameras and video recorders, 4 GB of memory and a library of more than 325 cartridges and downloadable apps, including eBooks, videos, music, creativity apps and more for limitless learning and fun.
My granson love it he don't wont to put it down. I think it's a good toy, but it goes through batterise really fast. The money that batteries and accesories cost can be expenses. OVERALL IT NOT WORTH IT!

Review 6 for LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer Learning Tablet, Green
Great beginning tablet for your little one. My kid has spent hours in the Pet Pad drawing his letters and coloring or taking pictures with his 'big boy' camera. My 3 year old has spent enough time on it that i feel i've totally gotten my moneys worth from this product. The leadppad 2 is noticeably faster than the LP1 and runs all the same apps as the LP1 plus a front camera. Take note that gel cases from your old leadppad will block the front camera and the mic on the new leappad so get ready to order another. But other than that its outstanding for getting him off your phone or computer and onto something that he can actualy gain skills from.
I do have some cons though and this is just my conservative way of thinking i guess. But there are no free apps that i can find so every time you want to put something new on it get ready to shell out from 5 to 25 bucks with no way to know if your kiddo is gonna like it. Im not saying i think leappad should start making a ton of cheap apps, but maybe instead release source code to the public and allow the community to make apps for them. ala Android style, love to find Flow for the leappad!
Also along the same lines there is a ton of stuff to buy for the leappads. cases, gel covers, replacement stylus's, apps, rechargable kits or standard rechargeable batteries, gads you can put 200-300$ into this easy (and everything is made of plastic) and you have to give it over to your 3 YEAR OLD!.
Still with all that said, this is a great product and i do recommend to friends.

Review 8 for LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer Learning Tablet, Green
This toy is 100.00 so you think that it is like a cheaper version of a tablet were you are able to download reasonable price educational items from a download store, but you have to buy the cartridge for 20.00 or more. It caught my son attention for about a day and after that he had no interest. I am so glad I was able to take it back and receive full refund of the amount.

There are better options out there

PROS: Versatility in power options (AA standard or rechargeable batteries, LeapPad2 rechargeable battery pack, wall adapter); Large profile suitable for smaller hands; Most titles available in both cartridge and downloadable format; Included stylus is physically tethered to the device
CONS: Cost of apps ($5-25) compared to Android and iOS market content equivalents (free, or $1-5 for ad-free/full versions); Apps offer no potential for updating/evolving content after purchase like Android/iOS counterparts; $5 for a poorly executed mp3-playing app; Batteries/charger not included for cost; OS interface is very primitive; Syncing takes forever; Cost of accessories often just as bloated as the cost of apps
Honestly, if my mother-in-law hadn't surprised everyone with a LeapPad2 for my 5-year-old son at Christmas, we probably would have chosen a kid-friendly Android-based tablet for the overall cost and software versatility/compatibility with other devices we already own as a family.
When I received these as gifts I thought they would be wonderful. But everything, much like an iPad, is an extra cost. Games are just part of it. The Leap Pad runs on 4 AA batteries and comes with no power cord. However you can purchase the rechargeable power cord for $39 and an A/C adapter for $29. So now you're over $100 for just basic usage. I just wish there were more add in valuable features.

We have had the LeapPad for about 1 year. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on batteries and applications! Many of the applications cost $25. Also, it is a very time consuming and frustrating process to download applications and wait for updates. The arrow key is now sticking. You are better off getting a small tablet.

The LeapPad drains batteries. We went through several batteries within a week. The programs are very expensive. Save your money and buy a tablet that has low cost applications that your child will be able to us as he grows older.

In my opinion one of the best learning devices out there for young children. We also have a vtech mobigo. There is way more downloadable content and in store selections to buy for the leap pad in comparison to the mobigo. I love how the leap pad comes with content already pre-loaded on to it including a game that has you pick a letter then your child is asked to trace the letter correctly 3 times before it will show you a word with the letter with a visual description. Both are great but if you are trying to make up your mind which way to go then the leap pad is the answer. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to buy the charger kit. It will make up the money you save in batteries.

My four year old loves this game system! It is great! I would definitely suggest getting the recharger pack. It is well worth the extra expense. I love that I can download games for him. The cartridges can also be purchased, but the same games can be downloaded and you do not have to keep up with tons of extra cartridges. Nice work, LeapFrog!!!

Review 20 for LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer Learning Tablet, Green
Very happy with purchase. Found great games to play. Look forward to more apps. For now, cannot keep this item out of our child's hands. It is educational, and our child is lost in it most often. It already has four apps installed. You chose a free app to download (leapfrog has pre-selected them). Note: PetPals2 has a defect. It freezes. No other complaints.
