Slick unit. I originally went to WalMart to purchase a powerline adapter to run Ethernet to my DVD player, but Walmart doesn't carry those in stores, so I saw this and it supported what I used the DVD online for, cost the same, so what the heck?
Installation was easy-peasy, but connection to my Wi-Fi network was laborious, turns out my network was 3 words, and that was apparently the problem... once I changed the SSID to a single word, viola, connection was simple.
The functionality of the unit is straight forward, and I had no problem getting connected to all the services. Good picture (42" 720p plasma via HDMI#.
I will likely take this unit back though, because there are 2 issues, one of which is a "no-go"... 1. The unit occasionally "blanks out" during Netflix playback. Sometimes it only cuts a few seconds of playback out, and sometimes more. Either way, this isn't going to work for me. Highly annoying. It happens if we watch 2 movies back to back... maybe it overheats or something. I cant find a solution online, and frankly, there are too many other players/streamers that don't have this problem to mess with it.
2. The other issue is an annoyance to no end. A beeping sound after each button is pressed on the remote. It started doing it after the firmware upgrade and I can't locate an option to disable it #except mute the tv#... wowza. Whose idea was this?
Anyway, overall, a 70% solution. But for $48, I expect a better functioning unit.

Good little streaming device for the price. Just plugged in HDMI cable and put in password and was up and running with no problem. Watch NETFLIX regularly and haven't encountered any problems with device freezing up.

Review 4 for D-Link MovieNite Streaming Player, DSM310
I love my Roku box but unless you're one of the few NoWhereMan subscribers to that private channel (now closed :( ) you can't watch YouTube on a Roku box. That's the reason I purchased this streaming player.
The bad: * The remote is "upside down" with fast fwd, rewind etc above the main controls and the thumb controls are dedicated to the four preset channels. (YouTube, Netflix, Vudu & whatever the other one is...) * It is laggy when pressing buttons and two clicks on a button will often get you a double whammy when it finally wakes up and starts responding. Then you get to back up a notch to get where you wanted to be. * Vudo. Whee. Who cares? * When searching for movies on YouTube or Netflix it takes F O R E V E R to enter the titles with the up/down/left/right typing found on remotes like this. Gotta live with it though. * There are NO other apps available for this unit. I don't know if there is 'alternate firmware' available but have not looked. I purchased this box exclusively for YouTube.
Which brings us to the good: * YouTube! It does a reasonably good job of accessing anything on YouTube you're looking for including those Russian dash cam car crash compilations & all those home-made movies your Uncle Fester keeps uploading showing him blowing up the neighbor's garden shed. Seriously - this thing is great for YouTube if you don't feel like dragging the laptop around or trying to watch it on your teeny smartphone screen. You'll need access to a computer and your YouTube account to set it up but that took all of five minutes... four of which were to get a soda from the fridge and hoof it up and down the stairs to the office & back to the television. * Netflix - Though a bit laggy on remote commands it does a good job of loading up your Instant Queue and set up is a cinch although you'll need access to a computer and your Netflix account to start it up. Same easy set up.
Free, yet useless feature: * You can also use this to monitor D-Link webcams in case you have one of those in the living room and want to watch yourself watching yourself watch yourself watching television. (And who doesn't?)
Some day I'll own a television with Netflix and YouTube built in... but until then this little box does the trick.

Review 5 for D-Link MovieNite Streaming Player, DSM310
Easy to hook-up, connects itself, no lag time while playing content except for, and it's only on occasion that this happens (blaming it on Comcast traffic) loading times are somewhat slow but bearable. Not runing wireless on this unit, direct connection could be the reason that there are no connection problems. I would recommend this product to anyone that is running a D-Link router as the units communicate well with each other.

My grand children take over my TV's when their with me watching Netflix for Kids on the xbox...so I deceided to try this before I bought another xbox for their room...rather spend 50.00 than 200.00...I am sure glad I did...this works better than the xbox! And I have my TV back. It took me all of 5 minutes to hook it up and set up (not very handy with electronics and such)...and now we are all watching our favorite shows...it is so easy to use my father, their great grand father figured it out and now he wants one...and he doesnt even know how to use a computer...

Please don't waste your money on this. Sometimes takes a dozen or more tries to sign on to Netflix. Goes through all the motions but will hang up and must be turned off to start again. We bought two of these and both of them do it. It also makes a VERY annoying beep sound. We bought the cheapest RCA brand streaming device in the store and it works just fine. We are still trying to use one of these until we can replace it but it really tries our patience

For financial reasons, we cancelled our satellite service and decided to buy this D-Link player to stream Netflix instead. While it does work, it is extremely slow and freezes often. Our internet speed is not the problem as we also stream through a Wii and Roku box with no problems. If I could go back in time, I'd spend the extra $10 for a Roku streaming player instead. The Roku also has free movie services like Crackle that are unavailable on the D-Link player.

D-Link310-DSM MovieNite is a complete piece of garbage. Purchased on 3/19/13 @ Wal-Mart. Brought it home, followed ALL the directions…..nothing. Called the customer service # for the U.S.A. and was taken around and around in a circle…. press 3 for this, press 7 for that, then repeat. Never did get an actual person.
I returned it within 2 hours and purchased a RoKu which works like a dream. Save yourself the time, frustration and money with D-Link31-DSM. Just buy a Roku – it works the first time, it works every time with – ease.

I was too cheap to buy a ROKU, so I settled on this garbage. It would freeze up often and ended up getting returned. A few months later, I'm getting billed for unauthorized charges on my VUDU account. Apparently these devices save your information, and some leech that bought my returned DLINK watched a lot of free movies on my dime. Buyers beware.

Ive read a ton of great revciews for this product, however I have had nothing but problems with it, The device connected to my internet very quickly but wont play Netflix. I bought this for my sons room and half the time d link wont connect, then if it does it wont play the movie. It just sets there loading then goes to a blank screen and I have to turn the device off and then back on. I would love to return it, but my 2yr old lost the manual for it. Im gonna contact the technical people and see if its something im doing.

Review 15 for D-Link MovieNite Streaming Player, DSM310
I called the company to help me with setting it up and at first they talked crazy to me, but little did they know they were talking to the consumer who will go toe to toe with them. I kept them on the phone for two hours going over every little piece and since I was using my credit card I had them go back to when I first got the card (in 2009) until now. Using this really did save me a big chunk of money because I thought I needed the xbox.

This product has terrible reviews online. I spent hours attempting set-up and it would not connect to the internet....neither wireless or even with the ethernet plugged in. There is no customer support number in the instructions. Am returning the item for my money back and getting NeoTV or Roku.
