The Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro Scientific Calculator features a high-quality MultiView display and MathPrint capability. Enhanced math functionality makes the Texas Instruments Scientific Calculator a useful companion for computer science and engineering courses and topics in which graphing technology may not be permitted. Other features of this TI 36X Pro Calculator include scrolling, editing, mode menu, memory variables, vectors and matrices, constants and conversions and much more. Be prepared for a variety of math calculations with this multi-functional, Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro Scientific Calculator.
I'm a long time TI-89 user, and bought the TI-36X to take a test that didn't allow programmable calculators. I chose this model expecting a similar interface and robust construction like the TI-89. I was disappointed with the flimsy construction and the chromed keys that make it difficult to see which key is which under most light conditions. It seems ridiculous that someone would choose to make the most used keys (division, multiplication, addition, subtraction, and ENTER) almost impossible to identify by making them equally shiny and without any print. However when you manage to find the key you want, the calculator is very powerful, but also very different in usage than the TI-89.

Review 4 for Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro Scientific Calculator
Have had a TI-30XS MultiView for years and went to get another one when we saw the TI-36X Pro. This calculator has all the functionality of the TI-30XS plus it can do calculus. For the few extra $$ it is worth it. And Walmart has the best price on this calculator. It was not in the store, but they sent it for free to my store for pick-up. Got to love Walmart!

Great for electronics and other math work

I have at least 5 calculators, 2 are graphing (Example: Ti 84 PLUS Silver edition and HP G9) as well as this 36X Pro. The others calculators not mentioned are basic or specific to construction. I much prefer the 36X pro primarily because of the options for manipulating fractions, exponential numbers and repetitive calculations. Pros: Improper fraction conversion to proper fraction, Decimal to Fraction conversion, creating a short calculations with X,Y,Z,T,a,b,c,d variables that you are prompted to fill in. Powerful non graphing calculator (required for some classes), most used keys are on 1st layer of button function. Direct input of fractions just as they are written in a book, including sqr root and exponentials in the fractions. I've read that some of the Casio scientific calculators "forget" your calculations and answers when it powers off. The TI calculators I own retain the information for continued work if it times out or gets shut off. Cons: shiny (chrome) buttons make the characters on addition/subtraction/multiplication/division BUT, I took a fine point sharpie and colored in the figures to make them more visible. The expression eval, does not save (that I have found yet) I recommend downloading the user manual from TI in PDF form so you can search for operations you need that you can't find immediately.
I've owned this for about 2 months and find it very easy to use and just what I needed for electronics (2yr degree). I still need to learn how to program specific formulas into it for re use. hope this is helpful.

Review 7 for Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro Scientific Calculator
I bought this along with the TI-30XS. It's as good as the TI-30XS for a couple of dollars more; however, it "looks" more professional as the color is black, silver, and chrome versus the cream, teal, and lime green. Purely cosmetic.

After have the calculator for 5 minutes and READING THE MANUAL about imputing conversions I figured out what the guy below did wrong. The manual says that you need to use parenthesis around the number you want to convert. I tried (-25) like he was trying to convert and got the correct answer of -13. If you don't read the manual and just type -25 then you get the wrong answer of -77. Which is what he got and declared the calculator was useless. If you learn how to use this tool then it will perform as advertised. It's the most powerful scientific calculator that Ti makes and I bought it for use in my calculus class right now because we're not allowed to use graphing calculators. This calculator does so much that Ti suggests it for algebra 1/2, geometry, stats, precalc, calc, bio, chem, physics, CS, and engineering. If you're taking any of these courses and can't use a graphing calculator on tests, quizes, etc., then this is the calculator for you.

Not reliable

I tried to convert -25 celsius to fahrenheit, using the C to F conversion function, the TI36 PRO returned -77
The correct answer is -13
A calculator that can't do a simple conversion is useless, I don't have time to proof every calculation I do on the calculator. If I did have time, I wouldn't need the calculator.
Maybe I have a dud, I'll try a different one. But I don't think this is the case.

Order of operations
Posted 03/27/2013
The calculator sometimes has trouble knowing where to put negatives in the order of opeartions. For example, when you enter -1^2, it will say -1 because it will square the one first and then negate it. This can be easily solved by entering it as (-1)^2. In this case it converted 25 C to 77 F (correct) and then applied the negative. You can probably solve this by using parentheses around the number (-25).

This calculator has an excellent display and has many helpful features. It can do number base conversions, integrals, derivatives, statistics, 3x3 matrices, numerical solvers, etc. It can change the display option between a "Mathprint" style and a typical calculator display. The buttons also work well, and I know that when I push a button that something will happen on the screen (unlike some other calculators I've used in the past). I'm very pleased with this product.

Review 13 for Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro Scientific Calculator
The calculator is as advertised. A good product for the money. The shipping though was horrible. I ordered it on the 15th. Walmarts' site gave me no tracking information for the first 3 days then when I checked it said my package would arrive between the 19th and 22nd. Well both of those dates went by. They promise shipping within a week but it was almost 2 before I received my purchase. Will NOT be ordering anything I need right away from them again!

does contain battery

While specifications for this calculator say
"Battery Type: Does Not Contain a Battery"
It does according to the online manual. My TI30xs is very similar and has run years with the same battery. The TI-36X Pro calculator uses one 3 volt CR2032 lithium battery. When the battery gets low this happens LOW BATTERY — Replace the battery. Note: This message displays briefly and then disappears. Pressing - does not clear this message.
If you have read on the net that this calculator has a PI bug continue reading because there are also people that say there is no bug.
I bought my first TI is 1977 and it still works so with care this calculator should last forever.

I recently enrolled in FDTC online classes. I wasn't doing well in math because my calculator was out-dated. I purchased the TI36X pro scientific calculator and since my purchase my math grade has improved. I wish I had purchased this calculator the first day of class. This is a great product, I would recommend it highly!.

To All Students (But Mainly Engineering Students)

In my experience, this is the most advanced, non-graphing, scientific calculator available. It has a familiar TI interface. The multi-touch buttons work flawlessly. And it's greatest feature it the ability to easily "grab" previously calculated values. I would recommend this calculator to anyone.
A side note to engineering students. I've have also used a Casio FX-115ES. The analogy I would use to compare these two calculators is the differences between Windows and Mac operating systems. The Casio, when used properly, is efficient but requires more time on the users end in learning how to use the operations. While this learning curve exists with the TI-36X Pro, it is soothed with a more user friendly interface. And, like I stated before, the ability to easily "grab" previously calculated values puts the TI-36X Pro on top. Finally, this calculator is FE approved and it is what I'll be using for the exam.
