Amazing TV if you can forgive it's blacks

I wanted to sooo much to love this Hisense 42 LED TV! Wow, for $368 I was going to get a 42in LED TV, 178 viewing angle, and with 3 HDMI !!! HiSense seems to think of everything when it comes to ease of use by actually inlcuding an easy to understand manual, mounting screws/washers if you want to mount the TV, and universal remote codes for all the cable companies (this is not listed for even major TV brands) . After using the TV for several days I have found out that no matter how many times I just want to keep the TV because it is awesome in most areas i just can't let go that the TV renders scenes using the color black just horribly. There isn't any firmware updates to correct the problem. I spent many hours trying to calibrate the TV using AVSHD free calibration disk. Tested with different HDMI cables, and players using DVD's, Blurays, video games. Sad to say but, the TV cannot render blacks very well. Even when the scene is daylight and someone is wearing a all black shirt or coat the screen just gets very blocky. When the scene transitions to a scene with no black it looks amazing. To really see this you must be close to the TV and you will notice the detail diminsh quickly. I can notice it from when I sit on my couch too but, it's easeir noticed when your close up. Checked website and they have no info on this or any new firmware to correct this issue. I had to return the TV. I guess when you buy Blurays you want to see the movie like a theater and when something like this is an issue it defeats the goal a little. I will still recommend it if you are not so picky....
Pros:
Amazing picture when the color black is not present
42in' and LED technology for this price is incredible
Wall mounting washers/screws #most TV's do not include#. Hard to find at local stores
3 HDMI and Headphone jack
Instructions better than most. Universal remote codes actually listed. USually have to hunt for these
Cons:
The rendering of nightime in a scene or a person where black coat during daytime the entire display gets very blocky and just breaks down!
Speakers are only a total of 16 watts but, it seems like even the name brand TV's are doing the same.

Shopped around a lot, and was close to buying a much more expensive TV. Luckily, I came across this at Walmart, and am very glad I did. It has an excellent LED picture - high contrast with deep blacks and excellent definition. In my opinion, it's as good as better known and more expensive TV brands.
It doesn't have the apps (e.g. Netflix) built in, but I already have those through my DVD player, so that wasn't a concern for me. Finally, the sound is ok but not great (like many very flat panel TVs), so most people will want to add external speakers via a home theater receiver setup.
All in all, I'd highly recommend this basic, high quality no-frills TV for its superb picture quality.

I have owned this television for a year, it is the best tv I have ever owned. I had a vizio and it died 3 yrs after I bought it. I can`t find one thing I don`t like about this. Price was right. Easy hook up, already programed to my cable box. Now going back for the 46" for my TV room in the loft.

I had a Samsung 42' flat screen tv for about 5 or 6 years, it quit working and needed a new tv. I shopped around for a tv that had a good picture and good sound, and fit in my budget. After looking at all the high priced-out of my price range tv's, I saw this tv at my local wal-mart. The picture was as good#if not better# than the high priced tv's. I also needed a tv that had really good sound, due to my wifes hearing impairment. After getiing this tv home and adjusting the picture just a little bit, the picture looks better than when I saw it at the store. I also adjusted the sound for my wife, and it ended up being the perfect tv for her needs. If you want a good tv that can compare to the high priced tv's this is the one that you want to buy.

This is my second Hisense TV ( My hubby bought this for our bedroom - my "Just giving birth to his 2nd child" gift). I picked this one out because of the picture quality, the color on this set is amazing and the price can't be beat... no high dollar marketing gurus salaries to pay for...lol. I will continually buy this brand, I have had LG's, Sony's Sanyo's etc, and this brand is my favorite. I highly recommend it to anyone!

Don't dismiss this set because you've never heard of Hisense or because of it's low price. We were looking fo a new TV after a cat took a swipe at our older 32" flat screen. There was this nice tornado looking shadow in the lower right corner. Our small house won't accomate anything larger than about 42" to 46" TV. After looking at the TV"s at Walmart. We settled on the 42" Hisense. It had, to our eyes, the best picture of any TV there.
We got it home and plugged in to our DirecTV box. After a few adjustments, which I managed myself, we had it up and running.
My only complaints are the sound (tinny)and no optical out for a home theater. Trying to find a hdmi home theater is nearly impossible. I've plugged my 30 watt Logitech Z323 speakers into the headphone jack and they don't sound bad. There is an adjustment for the sound in the menu and it helps somewhat.
Hook your satallite/cable box via hdmi to the top hdmi port and make any adjustments you want via the menu.
All in all, I'm very satisfied with this TV.

This TV had the best picture of all the ones on display at the store! Was a little worried of the quality at first but the salesperson at the store raved about it & told me that he had purchased this same model. Well, all I can say is "WOW!!" Set up was easy, adjusted the settings to our liking & we are truely pleased with our new TV. Definately a great purchase!

The onboard menu & setup system are very basic, but that can be a good thing. Picture quality is excellent - even more so when considering the sub $400 price range. Audio is weak - actually to quote my wife it is "hard to hear & becomes distorted if you turn it up to loud". Other reviews warn on this as well - so its safe to say its just the lack of quality of the components. I would recommend to anyone wanting a second tv in a bedroom, etc. We have had ours about 2 weeks but are going ahead and swapping it out for another unit. By the time I invest the money in a sound bar I can have a larger TV with a better rating on the audio.

I purchased this 42in Hisense TV, Father's Day weekend, because the price at that time was unbelieveable. Got it home hooked it up did good for about 90 days and one day the lights feckler off and that was it. Tv came back on with multiple lines. Called the service people was told that I had to send them the Tv, in which I did, less than a week I had it back. So far no other problems yet. BE WISED IF THE LIGHTS GOES OUT YOU MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM. Still not a bad Tv. Color is great

I am a tech and sports junkie. I bought this TV for watching sports and playing the latest HD games on XBOX 360 and PS3. I must say that I am very impressed with the picture quality from a company that I was a little timid about using. Thought I might need to purchase a sound bar to go along with the TV but after testing the sound out, I am very pleased with the sound quality coming from this super thin TV. My buddy owns a Samsung he paid $800 for and side by side the differences are minimal. I recommend this TV to anyone.

I just bought this tv for an unbelievable sum of $294!! I was willing to pay the $368 it said online however, when I asked the associate the price because there was no price present under the tv on display. He responded with $294 and I jumped on it right there. I don't know if it was a mix up but they honored the price he quoted and it rang up at that amount. It was not a display model, new in box! I had a Samsung 40 smart tv for a week, I liked it a ton but once I started doing more research I found I could get this hi sense and then buy a Logitech Revue and save a bunch of money. The hi sense is proving to be a quality tv to me. It may not have as many in-depth functions as a Samsung but I can get the picture I like on this tv with the functions that are available. The picture is very good, sound excellent in fact very loud at just 15! So all together I originally bought Samsung 40 smart tv for $690 with tax and protection plan. Now I have 42 hi sense, Logitech revue (smart tv Google, it comes with keyboard, Samsung didn't) protection plan and tax for only $412. Did I do well? I believe so. And I really like the tv hands down. Not just because I got the deal. I would not settle just over a few bucks considering I am going to have this for a least a few years.
