Experience 300 watts of theater-quality surround sound and upscaled picture performance from DVDs of nearly 1080p with this Sony DAV-TZ140 home theater system. The 5.1 surround sound system with DVD player features five speakers and a subwoofer, as well as Dolby Digital,Dolby Pro Logic, and dts surround sound decoding. There's also a USB port to conveniently play back your music, videos, and photos from flash drives, MP3 players, digital cameras and computers on the Sony DAV-TZ140 home theater system.
We bought this for our basement, entertainment room. We have another model upstairs I thought they would be similar. I was wrong this one hardly puts out any volume.

Review 5 for Sony DAV-TZ140 5.1 CH Home Theater Surround Sound System with DVD Player
Average sound quality, especially for TV.

Bought this budget unit today in a local Walmart....after setting it up I tested the speakers, the sub woofer did not originally work. I checked the cable connection and was finally able to get a test sound from it. The unit works fine but the sound quality is average at best for TV. Sound quality improves with the DVD setting but have modest expectations. With a tweak of the db's in the audio setup I was finally able to get good amount of volume but still not great bass. EQ setting is rather poor, with generic settings for movies, TV, game, etc., you are not able to adjust bass or treble of subwoofer independently. DVD picture quality is very good using my Sony Bravia LED. I expected more powerful, fuller sound for a 300 watt unit.

Review 6 for Sony DAV-TZ140 5.1 CH Home Theater Surround Sound System with DVD Player
I got it all hooked up, plugged my Ipod Classic in using a USB cable. The screen said "Device Not Supported". I chatted with a Sony rep who stated Ipods are not supported. The box states USB cable to play music & videos.

DOES NOT PLAY AVI/MP4/WMV VEDIOS FILES

The unit does not play avid files as advertise so your avi's will not play. You will get message that says VEDIO FRAME NO SUPPORTED. After contacting Sony, they told me that the USA model (which is this unit) will not play avi/mp4/wmv no vedio file.

Review 10 for Sony DAV-TZ140 5.1 CH Home Theater Surround Sound System with DVD Player
It hooks up easy enough. It's not loud at all on the tv or dvd. Radio is Ok. and you can't hear the sub. For the money it's not bad. Wish I would have bought something a little louder. It'll work though.

I purchased this and it was great, the only thing is it could not be hooked up to the xbox360 and we haven't got netflix hooked up on it. The radio has a great sound too.

Review 14 for Sony DAV-TZ140 5.1 CH Home Theater Surround Sound System with DVD Player
It's not loud at all. My TV itself has a volume that goes higher than this system. Can barely tell there's even a sub-woofer running. The up converted DVD player works as intended. That's why it gets 2 stars from me. I regret not spending a little more on a system running more wattage.

Bought this for the price and must say it sounds like a $300 sound system. The base is over the top, sounds great. I highly recomend this system.

Okay, I am writing this review because I wanted to share my experience with my new SONY DAV TZ140 Home Theater System. Before I bought one I read several negative reviews and I was a bit hesitant about getting it. Well, I have owned it for a week and I am quite pleased with it's performance and features. I will admit, I did expect it to be a bit louder, I mean it says 300 watts right. You need to think 50 watts, it's 50 watts per speaker for a total of 300. That being said, this is a great system for my purpose. I bought it as a sound system for my computer. The way I see it, to get decent computer speakers you will probably spend upwards of $75.00, so for a little more ($138.00) out the door with the needed Y adapter, I have some great speakers on my computer now. With the added bonus of a DVD player and FM radio. My DELL has never had good volume, so this is exactly what I needed to pump it up. I watch a lot of NETFLIX programming and these speakers really make the watching much more enjoyable. Volume is good, sound is clear and the surround sound adds another dimension to the video. The DVD player is fantastic as well, since before I was watching my DVDs on the computer. The picture wasn't always great, now with the SONY DVD player hooked up to my monitor with an optional HDMI cable, the movie quality is fantastic. I am amazed at how clear the picture is with this unit. Sure, if I wanted wall shaking sound I could go up to 600 or even 1000 watts, but then you are looking at a price tag in the $250-$500 range or more. Bottom line for me is, for a unit under $150, this SONY can't be beat. I highly recommend it!

Review 17 for Sony DAV-TZ140 5.1 CH Home Theater Surround Sound System with DVD Player
Has OK sound, but literally no bells or whistles. It didn't even have an optical input that I thought it came with. Nice feature - all speaker wire included, so If you're in a small space, no need to purchase any.

Review 18 for Sony DAV-TZ140 5.1 CH Home Theater Surround Sound System with DVD Player
Good value. Better bass than a comparable older unit. Scanning has messed up twice so far while flipping through chapters (not all that uncommon with DVD players). Remote does not open/close disc drawer - must be done using button on front of machine.
