Big smoker for small price,

--I read all the reviews and checked out many grills of this type both online and in stores before I chose to buy it. I was glad to read someone else commented about taking it along in an RV as I plan to do. --I bought it through site-to-store which eliminated shipping costs. Although they had a similar model in the store, I like the feature on this one of having the chimney on the far end of the smoker instead of the back. I felt the smoke would travel the whole distance of the grill before exiting. --Components were packed and protected nicely, assembly was quick and easy. --I did find the national barbecue news forum site online prior to purchasing this unit and followed their suggestion to coat the whole unit INSIDE and OUTSIDE with cooking oil or fat prior to its first firing. I used the cheapest shortening I could find and then built a small fire in it (200 - 250) to burn off any manufacturing oil and to add protection (much like seasoning a dutch oven). The instruction booklet that comes with the grill also mentions doing this to the inside. Doing this occasionally to the outside may help prevent rust. --I First used it to smoke 8 pounds of pork ribs on Father's Day. The ribs had a rub applied to them the day before. Smoked them using natural wood charcoal (also called Lump Charcoal) instead of briquettes, adding a homemade foil packet of hickory chips on top of the fire after an hour. Results were fantastic. Web tip: Never close the chimney damper when in use, control the heat of the fire with firebox damper! --There are quite a few similar types of offset smoker grills for sale, many bigger and built with thicker walls but this was cheap and light and pretty portable for my needs and it can still smoke up a great meal.

I purchased this online - unfortunately - 2 years ago. What a waste of money! Its far too small, giving the appearance of a much larger grill. Even keeping it covered during foul weather, the grill rusted terribly, with large pieces of rusted coating falling off onto our deck. I bought it thinking it would last quite a while, instead I now have to buy a new grill.

Once you learn how to use the dampers and keep the temperature consistent it is a excellent small smoker. I was able to take 3rd place at a bbq cookoff using this smoker and two boston butts. Just have to be mindfull of the dampers and use the grates in the firebox in tiered fashion to keep the fire consistent. Recomend using a oven thermometer in the smoking chamber to get the correct temperature. When the outside themometer reads about 350 I find the temperature in the smoking chamber is about 240. Hope this helps.

Bought this smoker after looking at several similar models at various retail stores. Decided on getting an off set fire box over the tower style versions. Good decision. As stated in previous reviews this one is a little small if you plan on doing large amounts of food, but it is a great value and its size and portability works just right for preparing meals for my wife and I and a few friends. 2 racks of ribs or a big brisket is no problem, but can't go much larger than that. Although there are some issues like the paint peeling off and the smoke box door needing to be tightened for the money you really can't beat it. It's perfect for the novice BBQer and I'll probably upgrade in a year or so to a larger model, but not before I get lots of practice wit this little guy. Here's to great BBQ at home for you and yours!

Ordered grill online, a year ago . The first cook-out, paint began to peel off the grill from heat, then rust set in, did not have a week! rack small, smoker, worked ok, a nightmare to clean. very disapointed.

I purchased this smoker last summer. It will handle a (1) large slab of spare rib, or two racks of baby backs side by side. I have had fantastic results with this smoker especially with a full 13 lb beef brisket. I find filling up the box with either charcoal or wood, as much as it can handle and letting it go for about 4-5 hours stoking often. Then, set your oven at about 280 F and let it go another 4-5 hours in a covered roaster draining fat maybe once or twice. Awesome Q!

Seeing this item in stock i wouldn't purchase it if you do alot of cooking, I do alot of grilling this would be too small for me, this grill is a one person grill if your eating alone, but overall its a good grill but I prefer the larger version which we have in store it cost a 138.88 and it's worth it, I bought one for a gift and one for me it is to die for, So for the men and the women that are true grillers out there you might want to check it out.

Although I didn't actually use this grill myself (it was a present), I assembled the grill. The directions were relatively easy to follow (altough I did have to backtrack once due to some unspecific directions on installing the legs right at the beginning). I would suggest having a socket and matching wrench (Can't remember but guessing about 1/2" or so)..it would sure save a bunch of elbow grease on mating the charcoal box to the main grill.
The price was actually as much as $50-100 cheaper as what I could find anywhere else for this type of smoker/grill.
As far as use, it looks to be as if it's well made and would work well-especially for smoking. I have a gas grill at home, but even mentioned to my wife this would be perfect for making jerked chicken (my specialty! :P). Hope this review helps!

Man I loved this grill. Easy to use and setup. i just out grew it when we bought a new house. The smoker worked great and the temp could easily be maintained. Now since it was just me and my wife and the occasional friend we had plenty of room on the grill. I used my neighbors grill and fell in love with it and when he moved I had to have one of my own so I went out and bought the same exact one. I have been using this model for about 3yrs.
I would recommend this grill to anyone.

I have owned this grill , since July 2007 . I am an avid bbq lover , This grill was smaller than I had expected , I smoked a pork shoulder on it ,which turned out very nice , The dampers has to be left open , to get enough heat. overall it is a great grill for the price . I will out grow this grill very soon . But it is a great grill to get started on.

The smoker is well built easy to use and works great. The only disadvantage is the small cooking space available. The flat surface is adequate for a full size brisket, but the height is not sufficient to accomodate any more than a 10-12 lb turkey.

I think it's nice but a little small. The paint burns off to quick. The holes in the fire grates should be smaller. The ashes fall threw to quick and lay right on the bottom of the fire box or grill. The damper on the fire box bolt comes loose, so you must put two nuts then it wont come loose. But other wise it makes great food and is a nice little smoker-grill-BBQ.

I don't like the enamel coating on the grills, I'd be happy to spend two bucks more for stainless and a removable baffle to deflect the heat (from the firebox) away from the meat in the smoker (I made one). I also made a lower shelf to put stuff on.
Tip: put a (shallow baking) pan of water in the bottom of the smoker during smoking to keep the meat moist.
I'm gonna borrow a plasma cutter and a mig welder to make ash clean outs for the bottom of both chambers!

The swinging door on the side of the firebox is always loose, and never stays open. When you tighten it, it stays tight until you open or close it, then the nut loosens again. Also the cover on the smoke stack falls off. It has a little cap that is supposed to keep it on,and let it swivel, but, it always pops off.

I got this as an anniversary present for my husband last month, and he loved it. I've seen similar grills in other stores for almost double the price of what I paid for this one. It was a little frustrating to put together, but it was worth it. Great value, very nice smoker, it was a nice purchase all around!
