The Samsung Focus I917 GSM Cell Phone is a super-sleek bar phone with a crisp, brilliant display. The Super AMOLED screen gives you a razor sharp, cinema quality image. It makes surfing the web and reading texts much easier in bright sunlight. The brilliant display allows you to quickly access the information most important to you with Live Tiles on your start screen. Now your calendar, contacts and social networking sites are fully integrated through Windows Phone People Hub. It makes staying in touch with friends and business contacts much more efficient and streamlined.
Shows when I have new e-mail. Easy access to e-mail, browser/search, call history, and Office apps. Pinning new tiles for quick access is easy. I don't like it is AT&T branded and I haven't found out how to get rid of the default AT&T tiles (if that is possible). Went with unlocked to not be tied to a contract and it was easy to get the no-contract Walmart Family (T-Mobile network) service. My last phone wasn't a smartphone so basic calling and phone functions (mute, speaker, etc) was simpler and didn't require navigation to the functionality but I'm getting the hang of it. I received it quickly, along with the different model phone my wife wanted, and got the service going. I couldn't activate online and keep my number but a quick call to activate and I was in business. It's a little too easy to hit the search button (Bing) when typing or using the tiles but the back button makes for quick recovery. I haven't found out how to verify the memory I installed and can only see the base memory when looking at the settings. I haven't used the camera much yet but the few times I have provided good photos and it was fairly easy to use. Overall I'm quite satisfied and the $170 price (it was about 70 off the normal price according to the website) was reasonable since I can pay a lot less per month than getting a subsidized phone with a two year contract.

Review 2 for Samsung Focus I917 GSM Cell Phone, Black (Unlocked)
It took me a couple of days to get use to the phone but after that I got the hang of it and now I would be lost without my phone. I went with At & T and all I do is pay $55 dollars a month and I am good to go. So glad I got my phone.

I just received this phone and found there are no apps available in the phone. home->marketplace->apps and search any application like twitter it only gives me albums, artists and songs having the word twitter. I spent 1 hour chatting with Samsung support & then i was informed that i need to get in touch with microsoft. i spent more than half hour with MS support & i was informed that the OS was 7.0.7004.0 because of which there are no apps available. I will be sending the phone back to walmart. No way after spending $225 i want to upgrade the OS on the day i received the phone.

Review 4 for Samsung Focus I917 GSM Cell Phone, Black (Unlocked)
I knew this was a first generation Windows 7 phone from the outset. After some research and review I decided it was the right choice. It did take a little tweaking to make the data and MMS work properly with the Straight Talk AT&T compatible SIM card, though. Again, after some research and websurfing I found all the information I needed and got the phone working as though I had purchased it with a contract from AT&T. I do not recommend this phone for someone who doesn't posses a moderate to high skill in tweaking smartphones. Even though it's unlocked it isn't preset to work with any carrier's data plan and could cause some aggravation to the uninitiated. It came preloaded with an early version of Windows Phone 7 and it auto-updated (a huge mistake on my part to let that happen) to Windows Phone 7.5. After realizing the problems, I found a reasonable solution to sideload a modded version of Nokia's WP 7.8 and the phone has been a hotrod ever since.

I have had this phone for about a month now and love it. It is fast and responsive. I really like the new Window's user interface. More than Android and iPhone. Highly recommend this phone. Using it with a Straight Talk sim chip.

Headphone used with earwax

The cell phone's mailing package was seal when I picked up. But the cell phone box seal was already opened when I opened external package warping. Carefully inspected every component, I think cellphone itself was maybe not used, but the paper holder had tears, indicating the unit had been taken out and put back. Battery was seades in the plastic wrapping. Charger looked not used but was not wrapped. Headphone was put in original plastic pouch. But seal was broken. Carefully inspecting, I found small flakes like ear wax were stuck all over both ear plugs. No extra pairs of ear plug fixtures were found. There should be two extra pairs of different sizes. I bought a different pair of headphones at the befinning. But later decided to return the unit feeling it was not fair since the advertisement indicated this was a new unit rather than an open box or a refurbished unit.

This is a great phone. I added the Sandisk 32GB micro sd and it has worked exceptionally well while providing almost 37GB of storage. The screen is great and responsive; I don't know how I managed without this phone!

I'm in Luv with this phone. I have shopped and shopped for the perfect phone and for me, this is "The One"! It's beautiful and functions so easily. It's Everything I was looking for and then some. Getting the phone set up with Straight Talk was a breeze and is working great for only $45 a month. Not tied to a contract and is affordable what more could I ask for? Email, Text, Talk and Web~ you just can't beat it!! So Glad that Straight Talk began offering the Sim Card for Unlocked GSM cell phones deal. Guilt Free and I'm in Heaven :-)

Straight Talk account
Posted 04/16/2012
I would love to know how you were able to transfer over your straight talk account! I have not been able to get the internet service to work, only talk and text. Have been on phone for days with Straight Talk, Samsung and AT&T..very frustrated and think I will need to return the phone..super disappointing!

"I had an iPhone 3G for almost 3 years and was pretty certain I was going to upgrade to the iPhone 4S, but after playing with a friend's Samsung Focus for a bit, I figured I'd give Windows Phone 7 a try. I was able to purchase this phone without contract for the same price as purchasing a new iPhone 4S from ATT and extending my contract. I just popped my SIM card in and I was good to go--my grandfathered-in unlimited 3G iphone plan worked perfectly.
The device itself is great. The construction is mainly hard plastic--which versus the iPhone's glass and metal, initially felt cheap to me, but its holding up well even after taking a few spills and SO much lighter than the iPhone. Nice curved edges and a slight taper from the top to bottom are nice design touches and make the device really nice to hold. The 5MP camera takes great pictures (flash works suprisingly well) and the 720p video is great. The 4 inch AMOLED screen is almost unbelieveable sharp and the colors are incredibly vibrant. If you have never seen an OLED screen, you will be suprised at how nice it looks.
The OS is where this phone really shines. Yes, the appstore is lacking a lot of the popular apps that I loved on the iPhone, but it is getting better. The OS is super responsive, scrolling is super smooth, animations are consistent, pinch-to-zoom is just as good as the iPhone (and much better than the Android devices I've used). The Zune media player is great (even has an FM radio) and I find the interface to be much more intuitive than the iPhone.
For this price, you'd be hard to find a better unlocked phone."
