Please note: If you select Site to Store delivery, your bike(s) will not be assembled upon pickup.
The Empire is ideal for commuters and fitness oriented riders who are looking for a more aggressive, forward leaning riding position. The rigid frame and fork offer an extremely responsive ride for quick corrections on city streets or fast corners on country roads.

Review 1 for Schwinn 700c Men's Empire Road Bike
Great Bike for the Price

I purchased this bike online and had it delivered to a local Walmart store. I was very pleased that they were kind enough to assemble it before I picked it up, as I saw other reviews that said some people had difficulties with assembly. This light weight bike looks good and has a nice, smooth ride. I am not a competitive bicyclist, so I don't know how it compares to the high-end bikes, but compared to the Schwinn bike I was using to bike around the city and on bike trails, it seems to be a quality bike and very affordable.

Amazing Bike!

I've now accumulated a total of 40+ miles on my Schwinn Empire in 1 month's time, and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
The only problem I had was I popped a tire going over a hole in the road. Turns out the rim tape wasn't upto par, but that was easily replaced with a new tube for all under $15 bucks.
The gears run smooth, the ride runs smooth, the brakes will make you stop almost instantly, be careful not to pull just the front bake so you don't go flying over the handlebars! I like that on the brakes, whenever they wear out you can move a lever and pull the brakes closer to the tire.
Got an uphill battle ahead of you? No problem. Kick it into a lower gear and see how little effort you have to give to get up that hill. Going down hill? Make sure you get real low and keep those fingers on your brakes, because you'll easily get upto 25+ mph as I did this morning going down a hill about 60 yards long!
I was hesitant about the seat, but it feels more comfortable than a wider saddle.
I have gotten so many compliments on how nice it looks, and I would highly reccomend buying this bike for anyone looking to enjoy a great ride.

Review 3 for Schwinn 700c Men's Empire Road Bike
Great Beginner's bike, but old technology

This bike is an excellent beginner's bike because it meets the minimum requirement. however, shifters are index/thumb shifters and this was designed since 1990s. Step up to get shimano Sora or Shimano 2300's shifters. They are more fun and much newer in technology.
The shifter also slips off the handlebar, which is really annoying; however, the chain and overall derailers are compatible and well put together. Rode this bike over 100+miles so far and it has yet to derail on me.
Buy it if you're under a 300 budget.

What everyone else writes about this bike is true; you can't get a better bike for this price range. I researched for about a month on different bikes before deciding on this one (considering used bikes, the GMC Denali, Schwinn Prelude, and some of the other cheaper road bikes out there). Based on what I've read and seen before purchasing this bike, it seems to be exactly the same as the Schwinn Prelude (and it sells for about the same amount too), just with a different color. I commute/ride about 40-50 miles a week, and this bike has been fantastic after putting a little bit of work into it.
Fit: I'm about 5'7"-5'8" with a ~31" (relatively longer) inseam. This bike fits perfectly for a road bike (the crossbar about an inch from the crotch when you stand over it); however, it might be a little big for anyone shorter/with a shorter inseam--I have the seat almost all the way down. That probably puts the frame size around 54-56cm at my estimate.
Cons: -It's difficult to add aftermarket accessories (lights, fenders, cargo rack, etc.) to this bike. It's missing some of the necessary screw-holes (in the back) and spacing. I barely managed to fit my fenders without them rubbing on the wheel, and they're zip-tied in the back. Not ideal, but they work. This is built as a "true" road bike--meant for riding, with minimal extras. -BUY NEW RIM TAPE. When I first inflated the tires to the correct air pressure (100 psi), the tubes bust. A bike store mechanic showed me it was a fault of the rim tape (this covers where the spokes attach to the wheel and is supposed to prevent the spokes from puncturing the tube); the stock tape is a cheap rubber that looks durable but deforms with the tube under inflation. I bought some SRAM rim tape on amazon (~$8) and that fixed the problem just fine. Do yourself the favor and put it on before you inflate and ride for the first time.
Pros: -You can't beat the price. Seriously. Even with the extra stuff you need to buy (rim tape, and I bought a new lock too), the next cheapest bike with drop handlebars will cost you around $500-$700. -Shifters. I wasn't expecting indexed shifters, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they were. -Pedals. Toe clips were a bonus--these retail for $30, and I was planning on purchasing a set for the added efficiency (roughly 30% increase). Nice that it came with the bike. -Looks. I've gotten a lot of comments on how nice the bike looks, and I'd have to agree. You might want a new lock.
Neutral: -Drop bars might take getting used to if you're not used to riding them, as some people have pointed out in other reviews (hint: let your hands rest on the molded rubber hoods over the brakes if you want to be able to reach them without using the lower bars). I wanted a bike with this style of handlebar. -"Paint." Turns out the Schwinn logo and orange color are sticker-style decals. Not a huge deal for me, some people might mind. -Wheels. Interestingly, the wheels are 700c but come with Schrader valve tubes. I haven't have any problems with weakening of the wheel or it coming out of true, but we'll see how it holds up. -Gearing. It's not a big deal to not have 21 gears. This one only has 14 and I only use the top 5 or 6 on a regular basis.
Overall: For those new to cycling or looking for a cheaper road bike, you can't beat this. Buy new rim tape, and you're all ready to go.

A couple of add-ons:
1) There doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the handlebar height on this bike. Slightly disappointing, but that doesn't make a huge difference for the riding I do. If you want more options to adjust the fit, you may have to look elsewhere.
2) The handlebars come loose from the stem periodically (and I haven't found a way to get the stem off to add a shim or anything). Not drastically, but every couple of weeks you might notice your handlebars aren't aligned.

Great bike at the price!

Great beginner or commuter bike. 14 speeds allow for fast downhills and climbs as good as can be expected for a ~26lb alluminum frame. I'm 5'-11" and ride with the seat almost all the way down; however I prefer riding lower than most. I would not recommend this bike for anyone under 5'-8". You probably can't find a better bike at this price and it has a nice look as well.

Great Bike For Price

This is a great entry level road bike for the amount you have to pay. The bike weights in at 26lbs out of the box and sets up well for a person 5ft 8in to 6ft. The only complaint would be quality control of the wheels. I busted my front tube with less than 2miles of riding. Upon inspection there were large metal shaving inside the rim that pierced both the rim tape and tube. After removing burs from both front and rear wheels I have had no problems. Still happy with around 60miles on the bike.

Review 7 for Schwinn 700c Men's Empire Road Bike
The real thing

First of all, I hardly buy anything online unless there is a review but this time I did, since I figure, ,if I don't like it Walmart will take it back. I'm 49 and my old mountain bike was a Schwinn that I bought 15 years ago at a bike store. Through the years I converted this bike more and more to be a road bike till now that I decided to get something to fit mu needs better like a road bike. I've been shopping for about a month visiting every bike store around and looking online. I wasn't sure if I wanted a road bike or hybrid, anyway, I came across this one about a week ago and it looks good. Shipping: the bike was shipped from Walmart to my home and I received it in about 4 days. The box looked new, no holes ect... Inside there was another box with the bike inside. Everything was in order and the packaging gets a 10. Wonderful and easy to unpack. Bike: at first glance I was amazed at how beautiful it was, paint, colors, wheels...seat...all looked like a 1000 road bike. The bike is a think a LARGE in size. I'm 5'7 and it's a little big for me. I nearly have 1" from my crotch. If it was a little biger I won't ride it. Assembly is not hard if you have the righ tools. It took me about an 1.5 hrs. The rear derailed came in perfect shifting but the front was a pain...it took me a long time and YouTube videos to get it right... First ride: took it around the block and came back home to adjust the breaks and lined the front wheel again. After that took it on a longer ride. The bike is very very fast and pretty comfortable to my surprise I found the seat to fit me good. I The shifting is kinda hard and the only thing that doesn't stand up to the overall quality will be the gears. The bike comes with aluminum pedals which is very nice. My self I will try to get use to the drop bar but if not I will have to change it. In my age I need to be comfortable enough. The breaks are fine but need tuning. All in all, I would say that a bike like that will cost you around 1000 at your LBS. this is a beginner road bike that worth every penny. The greatest thing about it is the look, it is stunning even the seat comes in the same colors of the bike, orange and white.
