This Brute 22" Mulch/Bag/Side Discharge Front Wheel Drive Lawn Mower offers great versatility with its 3-in-1 capability and nine different cutting heights. The Briggs & Stratton 675ex Series Engine powers this front wheel drive mower and the variable speed option allows you to choose how fast or slow you mow. The high rear wheels provide better traction and maneuverability on various terrains. The Briggs & Stratton 675ex Series engine (190cc) was chosen for this mower to ensure outstanding performance. The no prime, no choke ReadyStart feature makes for quick starts every time. The Fresh Start fuel cap keeps fuel fresh for up to six months.
I bought the mower for the bagger feature but the mulcher works so well, even in tall, damp grass, that I stopped using the bagger. I would recommend this mower.

I only had this lawn mower about 35 days and the spring for the self propeller broke. Before that the yellow part of the wheels kept coming off. Other than that, it ran, it worked...with elbow grease.

outstanding mover, started on the first pull, love the self propell unit and the easy cleaning of the mower, would be nice if the wheels were metal instead of plastic but so far the wheels have not cracked.

very good mower, easy to use and strong. i know my mower was sitting over the winter at my local walmart in the garden center but when i bought it, it fired right up no problem. i mowed for most of the summer on a 2 acre hilly property and had no problems except near the end of summer the self propelled belt started jumping off and i always had to stop the mower and it fixed it until it finally snapped... no big deal. i guess belts are going to wear out with wear and tear right? bought a new belt on ebay for $12 and its back to mowing! lots of horsepower and it never falters. highly recommend this mower!

Review 6 for Brute 22" Mulch/Bag/Side Discharge Front Wheel Drive Gas-Powered Lawn Mower
Granted I've only used this mower twice, but so far it's great. Starts on the first pull every time. No problems at all. In the middle of mowing I have let it die on purpose and it starts right up on the first pull every time and nothing has broken off or fell off, like others have reported. It's got a great warranty and Walmart will stand behind it if i have my receipt. I just think there are some very unhappy people in this world and there's nothing you can do for them. But I would recommend this mower for the average homeowner.

Lasted a year

At first this thing seemed great. I loved it the first summer I bought it. Never had the wheel problem everyone seems to have. Started easily every time and the self propulsion was awesome. Last week it had a difficult time starting but I figured it was just due to sitting up during the winter. Today, it will not crank. No matter what I do it will not crank. I cleaned out the carburetor, cleaned the flywheel and checked the magneto gap, cleaned and gapped the plug. I have done everything except rebuild the engine just about. I bought this one last year to replace my cheap piece of junk lawnmower I had, but at least that one lasted a few years. Now I must buy a new mower, because after several hours of working on this mower, I have lost my temper and done something that definately voids the warranty.

I purchased this mower to replace an electric mower that stopped. I selected this one because of the features and low initial cost. I found that it was easily assembled and started with the first pull. It mowed my yard with ease, even the up hill portions. I next tried it in tall, thick grass, and once I opened up the side discharge it flew through with no problems. It will mow faster than I can walk. It took some time to adjust the tension on the front drive sprocket correctly; now it mows and drives flawlessly. I noticed that the front wheel caps fall off when I get the mower against something--not a problem, I just replace them when I finish. I couldn't be more pleased with this mower.

Dont be fooled by the negative reviews this mower is good and strong. I am unsure how the indviduals are breaking their rear wheels, I pivot the mower on them when turning in the grass or pavement and have not had one problem. I suspect that ths rear wheel issue is caused by the indviduals dragging it sideways or possibly chewing on them thinking they are doughnuts. For the price of this mower it is unbeatable the next comaparable mower of the same class costs over 60 dollars more. Purchase this one and be happy with the extra money you saved you can update your yard.

BETTER MOWER THAN EXPECTED

I was given this mower as a gift. I opened it up and it is a great looking mower. It has a solid mower deck. I put oil in it, gased it up and it started right up with no problems. I used it for a few hours and both rear wheels broke at the hub. Just like a lot of other complaints, the rear wheels are very cheap and not durable. I sent an e-mail to manufacturer Brute to request new wheels and made a request that they send higher quality replacement wheels. Their customer service dept was very responsive and sent replacement rear wheels out within 3 days free of charge. The replacement wheels that were sent from the company are better quaility wheels than the ones that came with the mower. It appears that in 2013 the company finally has upgraded the rear wheels from the factory after all of the issues owners have complained about. The new wheels are thicker plastic at the hub and have worked great and can handle rough terrain that the factory installed rears wellls cannot handle. I am impressed with the quick response from Brute customer service. I have not had any other issues with this mower, it starts up the first time and it gets that job done. It has been a little over a month and I have had no other issues with the mower. The customer service from Brute has been great and I am surprised with their responsiveness and how quickly they sent out the replacment wheels.

CHEAP REAR WHEELS!!!! WARNING! DO NOT PURCHASE!

So, first let me explain why I gave it an "Excellent Value" rating and nothing more. It's a 3 in 1 mower with a big, torque-y motor. It actually IS an excellent value. However, the build quality and self propelled power is well below poor. If there is a class lower than poor, that's what the rear wheels should be classified as.
Please see pics and video that I took.
If you are cutting on any type of a hill, while going side to side on said hill, the rear wheels will break, plain and simple. I would NOT recommend this mower for use on anything but a flat yard with no holes, no hills, and no turns. You heard right. Even when making a turn at the end of a pass, and you put the weight on the rear wheels, you can see them struggle. It's amazing how this even passed through quality control. I bought this and there were only a few reviews at the time, figured I'd try it. Bad mistake. Looking now, it seems most of the reviews are the same. Broke the rear wheel.
Mind you, this happened during the middle of it's second use. Each use is only 20 mins worth of cutting. What a disaster. I will be returning and going to either Lowes, Sears, or another large chain lawn center.

Had the broken wheel promblem to!
Posted 05/10/2013
Within the second year of owning this lawn mower the back wheel cracked. Just like the pictures in other low rated reviews. The first thing I did because it is past its warranty is contact the website WWW.BRUTEPOWER.com. No help at all there other than where you can buy a new lawnmower and some part schematics. Contacted Brute threw there 1800# had to wait 35 minutes until someone answered. Then was told I could order new wheel but they wouldn't be in stock until June 2013. The cost $40 and some change including shipping. Was told to contact one of there certified repair people to see if they had any wheels in stock. I already had contacted local lawn mower repair shop in my town. So I called my local Brute repair shop with new part # given buy Brute representative. Then was told they couldn't get part either. Also they DO NOT want to be listed as one of Brutes repair shops because of the low quality that is coming from the BRUTEPOWER company. Luckily I found a website called RepairClinic.com they had the wheel better version that is, I ordered for the same price that Brute wanted and had it 2 days later not a month later. Also it looks like the other original wheel I have is starting to crack I guess I will have to order another wheel, glad I found RepairClinic.com.

This mower cut really good and I was impressed at first, but the first small rock I hit with it bent the shaft. I thought maybe I hit a giant rock or something but it wasnt. Normally my old mower if I hit a small rock it would just die. Move the mower, then restart. It ruined this mower. Late in the season when mowers went on clearance I bought another one identical for half price. I ran it this season twice and the second time I hit a stick. The shaft is bent on the second one.Now ITS ruined. I'll never buy this brand again. Theres definitely a problem with the quality of this mower.

Used the mower twice. Two minutes into the second mow, the front wheel drive stopped working. It also stalled a couple times during the mow. I called the company and was told to take to repair shop. I decided I didn't want a dud and returned it to the store. The store had no more because it was last years model and they were at a low price to get rid of them. While looking for a different mower to buy I saw 6 mowers of the same model out back for return, all defective.

This mower lives up to the name, "Brute." This machine is a beast that tore through my yard for the first mowing of the year, with grass that was thick and slightly damp. It's big, bulky and not very easy to maneuver...but then again, you probably aren't looking for a self-propelled mower if those are major concerns.
Pros: Cheaper than any other self-propelled mower that I could find in stores or online. Having worked at a Briggs and Stratton assembly plant in the past, I can speak to the quality of their engines. Starts with one pull of the string--so long as the deck isn't clogged with wet grass #but that applies to all mowers.# Raw power, though the length of the handlebar from the actual mower means that you end up putting weight on the back end, which weakens the impact of the front drive. By slightly pushing up and forward on the bar you'll get better traction from the drive #plus you'll be mowing at a near-jogging pace if you crank up the speed!# 22 inch blade is a minor but noticeable improvement over smaller sizes that you'll see in this price range for self-propelled mowers.
Cons: Immediately noticed that the wheels look and feel cheap...and then I read some of the other reviews posted on here. Hoping that the wheel issues of 2012 have been addressed for 2013. Side-discharge attachment is flimsy. It simply slides over two prongs and is held in place by the mulcher attachment via a spring. Had to stop mowing and reattach it after about five minutes of usage but didn't have any further troubles I used a little bit of caution. The side-discharge is quite powerful--be VERY careful of mowing near fences, especially if you wear contacts.
Overall: Based solely on my own experience with this mower, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. However, if the complaints about the wheels and belts are too much of a concern for you, I'd recommend looking at other, pricier options from well-established brands.
