Review 1 for Coleman Fold N Go Charcoal Grill

It works but it's no home run.

This grill looked really good in how it's designed, but now that I have it and have used it, it falls far short of how I envisioned it would work. First, the idea of lighting the charcoal in the vertical position as shown in their literature is impractical. There just isn't enough combustible density for the coals to catch and burn without using the brands impregnated with lighter fluid. I had to use a chimney lighter to get my coals going. Once I did that, putting them in the pans and arrainging them for use was a challenge. You MUST have a good insulating glove to do this to keep from being burned. Once the grates are in place, the grill works fine, but don't hope for grill marks. The grating, while it cooks ok, is too wide to make proper grill marks. This is a good thing when grilling fish or shell food but not so much for meat or poultry. Clean up is easy enough, but again, it is more difficult than I thought it would be. The coal pans work great but the grill plates were hard to handle when covered in greasy, cooked on residue.
Overall, this is a good purchase if you have limited space for a grill, such as a camper. It also works well on a table top (which can handle burning embers and heat from the charcoal.) For backyards, a traditional Hibachi would work better and be cheaper, though it wouldn't be so cute in it's fold and store configuration. I actually like this little grill. I just wish it worked better.
