Great .22 silhouette target rifle

I had a Marlin 60 semi-automatic that I used to like until I decided to buy this. Initially I just wanted a .22 that would not consume ammo so fast at the silhouette range. But after purchasing the XT-22 I found out that not only did it force me to slow down and focus on my fundamentals and slow the consumption of ammo, but this thing is incredibly fun to shoot. Much more accurate than the model 60, and a lot easier to clean at the end of a shooting session. I used to have to completely strip down the model 60 and clean it with compressed air and solvent, The XT-22 I just bore snake it a few times with CLP, and wipe down the bolt with CLP and it's done till next time. My wife and daughters like it so much that I sold the model 60 and bought another XT-22 identical to it. I put the same scope on it and purchased another 10 round clip magazine so we could get more shooting in when we all go to the range together. Great rifle! Smooth bolt action, accurate, great adjustable trigger that has no creep and breaks clean, beautiful hardwood stock, and easy to maintain. It also shoots any ammo I put in it with no malfunctions at all! Did I mention I like it so much I now own 2 of them?

Update #2
Posted 01/05/2014
Having owned these 2 rifles for even longer at this point I have to update my previous comment. I took one of them to a gunsmith back in October to find out why I was having problems with some ammo while others cycled fine. The feeding problem was actually caused by a slightly bent extractor and was easily fixed by making a small adjustment and bending the extractor back to it's proper shape. A very simple and easy solution now that I have been shown the problem and how to fix it. The extractor is a very simple design and made of a single piece of spring steel that can get bent if you unwittingly try to close the bolt on a casing that was not fully ejected. (snap the bolt back briskly and they always eject, don't ease it back) I have only had a problem with one type of ammo not reliably extracting since. I feel much better again about my decision to purchase these 2 rifles and will simply avoid Winchester white box 22 ammo altogether. Every ammo I have used since seems to cycle just fine. In addition, I have several thousand rounds through one of them now and while they are accurate right out of the box, they get even more accurate the more you shoot them!

Now that I've owned these two XT-22s for several months and have tried different ammo in them. I am much less impressed. They are VERY PICKY ABOUT WHAT KIND OF AMMO YOU RUN THROUGHT THEM. At the present time, I have only found 3 kinds it will properly feed and eject. Every other type of ammo I have tried either failed to properly feed, or left the shell casing stuck in the chamber. That being said, If you can find ammo it likes, it's still loads of fun to shoot and "very" accurate. I just wish it would eat any .22LR you put in it without problems. That was one of the biggest reasons I bought a bolt action in the first place.

IT'S THE FUNNEST!

Ok, this is my first ever review, but I felt it had to be done. I started shooting last year, and found out I love it. I first got a Marlin 60, then a Marlin XT-22, and then a Weatherby Vangaurd II, in 223. I really enjoyed shooting the Marlin XT-22 with a cheap Centerpoint 3-9x32 at dime size targets at 50 yards using Federal #810, until this year, when the XT-22 just would NOT group like it did last year. I cleaned, I scrubbed, I wrote it off to cold weather, and I replaced the scope with a Nikon Prostaff rimfire 3-9x 40 with BDC (bullet drop compensator), all to no avail; I just could not get the dime size groupings I did last year. Well then I started shooting practice golf balls (gofer balls) at a little over 100 yards- You know, the sand pile behind the 100 yard target; and now I have a whole new sport. Even using cheap ammo I never thought I would use, i'm hitting them gofer balls better with the XT-22 then with the Weatherby, using my best (1-2”) ammo. In fact much better. Still can't hit the dime size groupings at 50 yards, but couldn't miss the gofer balls at that range, and probably could average 30-50% at 100 yards depending on ammo and weather. Suggest Ya'all think about getting the XT-22 with the Prostaff rimfire. It's the funnest shooting i've done, three days in a row now. P.S.- the XT-22 took at least a brick of Blazers to break in.
