The Mainstays Sheridan Magnetic Curtain Rod adjusts from 16 inches to 28 inches and is easy to install. The decorative orb on each end adds an elegant touch. This curtain rod is ideal for metal doors, but it can also be used on windows, appliances and cabinets.
Great for metal doors for valances/curtains or on the side/front of dryer or refridgerator for hanging dish towels. But I wish I could have found the next size up as well so that I could have used the same curtain rod on my kitchen window as well. This one was too short. So know my curtain rods are different on the door and the window.

This holds great no issues and I have a very heavy panel hanging from it. I love it I wish they made one way longer so I could buy more.

There's cheap...and then there's this rod! Yes, I removed the backing to expose the adhesive pad, and no, it still isn't strong enough to hold itself up, much less a curtain. I bought a magnetic rod from Walmart several years ago and it works great, so I was very disappointed to see that the current rods were of a different design. The magnets in the old rod are strong enough that it doesn't need an adhesive pad to keep it in place. I use these rods as a temporary fix, not a permanent installation, so "gluing" them to the door defeats that purpose. I checked several other sources, and they all seem to have the same design, so I got two packages from Walmart because it had the lowest price. I will be returning the unopened one this afternoon for a refund, because they are not usable.

Also read reviews, and purchased it for our steel door. Tried getting the plastic off, and it comes off in pieces. Keeps falling with any slight touch. One of the end knobs will not stay attached.

good buy for lightweight drapes

I love the product however I have insulated drapes. They tend to be a little heavy for the magnet. So occasionally they fall. I have read negative reviews on this product and I can say that those people must have had heavy drapes too. The product would be perfect with cotton fabrics also the fact that I have a door painted several times with an oil based paint doesn't help. Bottom line the product will be great on a metal door with less paint and with drapes made from light weight fabrics.

There's a 'trick' to getting this to 'stick'

This curtain rod is like steel! I laughed outloud when I read the reviews that the rods wouldnt hold and quickly fell. My rod too, at first, slid and fell. THEN I realized there was clear tape on the backs of the magnets affecting the ability to 'hold' or to 'stick'. Once this tape was removed, the magnets were almost like glue to my door. The rod was super hard to even move once stuck to my steel exterior door. This rod is perfect!!! And the price is affordable. Definately would buy again and recommend to friends...however, suggesting to them that they remove the protective tape covering the magnets before use!

Strong magnet - back part is sticky why?

"Mainstays Magnetic Drapery Rod" (The name is quite similar to what I bought and no other one matches; looks identical)
The backing where the magnets are located are covered with a sticky film and I am not sure if that is the non-slip adhesive or something to be taken off.
I unpeeled something white with an arrow on it. So, I presume I peeled off all I am supposed to. Since this left me wondering if the sticky part should be against the surface it's a poor installation and user experience.

Magnet is not strong enough. I have one out of 6 that actually stuck to the door for 5 minutes then fell. The other 5 fell as soon as I put the curtain on. Cheaply made!

Look on back of magnet
Posted 03/28/2013
Check on the surface of your magnets there is a thin protective covering, peel that off and rod should work great.

It wont fall if....
Posted 09/19/2012
Take the rod off your door. Then look on the back of the braces where the magnets are. Remove the protective clear tape from them and it will stick...probably more firmly that you'd like! Mine did the same thing until I realized there was tape on the back of it. Now that the tape is off, it's nearly glued to the door.

It does stick to the door but it has to be above the window sill because it does not stay in place (the magnet is not strong enough). There was gold lines around the small ball of the curtain rod so it kind of looks cheap. But the price was right and it works for the job of holding my kitchen curtain up. It is a small rod though.
