We bought this Air Purifier as few days ago. We rent an old house and have 3 medium sized dogs.. I have asthma and was not able to breath well.. I know it has only been a few days.. but I can breath SOOO much easier. I took all the air fresheners out of our home because they were causing irritation to my lungs and this keeps the house smelling pet-less, clean and fresh. So far I am extremely satisfied. We initially bought this because Oreck is a trusted name. But I just love it. Sure there is some noise if ran on high.. but I would expect that. Low and Medium are not very loud.

Since I smoked in the house was a problem. having lil grand daughter over Evan if I didn't smoke in the house with her around. It was just the Oder that was inside. I quit smoking inside. I purchased this item and to my surprise after running it in a couple of different rooms for some time. Got compliments on how fresh the air in the house was much better.and no smoke Oder. No more complaints from Grand daughters mother.Evan may have her convinced she needs one for their place because of the 2 dogs.Very quiet on low and med Hi a little load but not bad.

Bought this for use in my Master bedroom mostly for pet hair and dust control.
First off, it's an Oreck. They have been in the air purifier business for years so I was expecting this to be a very good unit. Construction is first rate, exactly what you would expect from an Oreck product. I can find no faults in that area. It feels solid and the controls are first rate. This unit has a large filter for it's size and also comes with a foam pre-filter. You get two of the foam filters so you have a spare.
So on to the actual use. Installed the filters and set up the machine in the bedroom. First thing I noticed was that this unit moves A LOT of air! In the upright position the air shoots straight up out of the top corner. You can also lay it flat on the floor, where that air will shoot out across the floor. On high it could actually blow stuff away. If you place it near anything that's not tied down, the stuff is going to fly across the room. In a medium sized room you ARE going to notice the fan noise if you run it on high. I have a 2500 sq ft single story, split floorplan, and on high speed I could hear the fan almost everywhere in the house. Honestly on high it's tornado loud. On low it's real quiet and on medium it's about equal to a stand mounted house fan.
I shut the bedroom door and let it run on high for about an hour or two just to see how it worked. My Wife went into the bedroom after about 1 1/2 hours and called to me that it smelled bad in the room. I went in there and sure enough, the whole room smelled BAD! It had that very acrid electric motor smell like what you get with a cheap electric motor that's new. I had to shut it off and open the windows to get rid of the smell. Not very good considering it's an air purifier.
I thought the smell was just because the unit was new and that it would go away after some more use, so moved the unit into a larger room and ran it for an hour the next day. Same smell but I stuck it out and let it run. I believed that the smell would clear up but two days later it still smelled. Not as bad but you could smell it if you were close to it.
The smell combined with the tornado loud fan made me decide to return the Oreck. Maybe I just got a bad one but I really don't think so. When it was running it was fine. No weird noise or any indication that the unit was defective. In my opinion, it's just not a very good product.
Very disappointed considering that this is an Oreck product. I really expected more. When I returned it, I bought the Tower style Honeywell unit to replace it. No smell and VERY quiet even on high.
