Found on clearance rack. Bought two and found one was a return, complete with previous users account info for Pandora. But at least Pandora worked on this one. Netflix would not. Oddly this one had a different remote that seems to be the concern.
The second one had the bad remote, and neither Pandora or Netflix would work.
Both ran hot, but the first was way too hot and shut itself down twice within the first 10 minutes of operation.
Bummed at least one didn't work and will be returning both.

Bought this RCA Player 2 days ago. Bought online ( was only $16.88 on walmart.com). Picked it up at the store, brought it home and was a very easy set up. Connected to the WiFi and had no issues. Then had streaming issue using VUDU because it would load every other minute. Then started working 100%. Run Netflix, watched 1 movie without 1 problem. Now trying to watch a tv show on netflix, and having MASSIVE loading issues. watched 2 esp without issue now the 3rd esp taking forever to load. I believe its because the device is so small there no room to vent out the heat, so placed a small cooling fan under it, now ill see if it worked better
PS: Remote is not great, but i am not having any issues. Also i loaded Netflix on my laptop and I AM NOT having loading issues on my laptop, so i know the loading issues are not my WiFi connection or an issue with Netflix.

This thing ate up THREE batteries in about one hour.
The remote is the JUNK in this deal.
WOW, I hooked it up and then had nothing but problems wiith it.
I got it on sale for about $15 bucks ...I returned it the next day.
I will spend more money and get one with a REAL remote that has more quality to it.

I got this going against other reviews about the horrible remote. Opened the box and there was a real remote in there (not the bubble one). I I linked the box to my Harmony 200 remote, everything works fine and streams well.

The set up was easy....My only problem is the remote doesnt always connect with the device i have to hold it pretty close. But i use this for my kids and they love having netflix in their room :) i am disappointed it didnt come with the red white and yellow cables but thats fine. otherwise the distance for your internet isnt as strong but its good enough for the kids and if your modem is closer it would be fine. Mine has to be in the kitchen :) overall good product especially for the price!!! FOR NETFLIX USERS WHO DONT WANT TO BUY A COMPUTER OR GAMING DEVICE!!!!!

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. THE UNIT FREEZES AFTER WORKING ONE TIME. IT MAYBE BECAUSE OF THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE WHICH I DID TWICE SO MAYBE THE UPGRADE IS CORRUPTED BUT VERY DISAPPOINTED. THE REMOTE IS NOT THE PROBLEM AS I REPLACED BATTERIES ALSO AND SAT AN INCH AWAY FROM THE BOX. THE UNIT WORKS ONE TIME AND AFTER THAT IT DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE REMOTE AFTER THAT. OTHER REVIEWS HERE HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I GUESS YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. A CHEAP VERSION OF THE ROKU BOX WHICH IS ABOUT ANOTHER $40.00. VERY DISAPPOINTED !!

Save your money and buy a better product. My experience is that this unit is not worth the money. I am on my second unit after the first was D.O.A. and the second has just stop working. The remote is not dependable, the units I purchased have not worked and when they did.. they got hot, the remote had to be in front and close to the unit.... spend your money on a better unit...

Bad outweighs the good

So the remote is junky and doesn't work very well, I could live with it but then the whole thing just quit working. I would try to turn on Netflix and it would try to load and then just shut off completely. I tried resetting it going back to the factory default and trying to reprogram it but nothing worked soooo I returned it, bought a roku2 and now I'm back in business although I'm not crazy about the roku having an annoying tag on the remote at least the remote works (I forgot how much I missed that). Also, the instruction manual for the RCA was lacking in a lot of ways.

Bought this 3 weeks ago. Hooked it up within minutes. Loaded Netflix instantly,no problems. The problem came when watching a movie,the sound was so loud for the backround music that you couldn't hear the voices. Tried watching several movies and shows but it sounded the same.

I'm returning this RCA and will just get a Roku instead. The savings isn't worth the annoying design and lack of applications. =(

Very few apps. After I check out other products, it'll be worth it to just spend the extra $20 to buy other streaming players which have apps that give free content.

Remote Control:
Gosh, I so HATE the remote control is so bad! I have to stand right in front of the box to make it work! And the pseudo-buttons are annoying, they're just like little bubbles that pop-up of the rc.. you have to press too many times before it does what you want, and press it hard! My thumb knuckles started hurting, and I blame this remote. The response is also very slow, so it gets so annoying when checking out Netflix titles.

On Black Friday, a customer handed me the RCA Streamer because he had picked up more than he wanted. I didn't recognize the product and asked him what the streamer did and after learning the point of this product, I bought it. For $30 and the return option, I wanted to try it out. My office 19" flat screen TV is not connected to my cable service. I have used a digital antenna to get 2 local stations. It was very easy to connect. I had to use the A/V cable because my TV doesn't have an HDMI. #Surprised! Flatscreen with no HDMI# The cable is fine, nothing to complain about regarding picture or sound. It's great! I don't know if it matters, but I turned my computer on before I set up the Wi-Fi. Easily connected. Took seconds to sign it up with Netflix and I am watching my movies! So cool! I'm going to try it out on my 2 box TV's in the bedrooms and if it works as the info indicates it will, I'm buying 2 more of these little toys! I agree, the remote is a little glitchie and maybe it is the battery. I noticed that the remote worked just fine if I pointed it directly at the streamer. Maybe it doesn't have a wide range for reception. If you need simple, basic and inexpensive, this is ideal.

I like many of you got this streaming box on black Friday in the madness. I was fairly excited an happy the first few days of the product. However, as the weeks continued I found myself continually replacing the battery. The remote to this thing has a huge design flaw! Now for only $10 more I can get a Roku? There's no comparison. The Roku will work faster and has a far better interface with more channels. I just hope it's not too late to return the RCA box... a major letdown.

I purchased this the day after Thanksgiving and was so excited because i got one, only to find out it has a horrible remote! The remote is like a credit card and has no real buttons, onlt these little bubble type buttons. The battery died about a month after i got it too. Could they not have spent an extra couple dollars and given us a real remote?

Disappointing - Remote Issues Make it Not Worth It

We purchased two of these from Walmart around Thanksgiving. We went to purchase Roku boxes for each of our bedrooms, but walked out with these because of the cost savings. When we got home, we noticed immediately that the remote controls were very cheaply made. We loaded both up and began to use them right before Christmas. We had a few issues with loading and buffering with Netflix, but were able to resolve these. We found the remotes cumbersome to use - sometimes a device can be TOO Simple for the it's proposed use. I hated to search for items on Netflix with these boxes because of the remote. Then the remotes stopped working within 2 days of each other. We thought it was batteries, but after replacing them - they still did not work. I read online where a universal remote could be programmed via the "one button search" method to find the code to operate the box. I tried this with no luck. I am now very frustrated and now wish I had spent the money on the proven product. I was not an RCA fan and had not been for some time due to a lack of pizzazz in their products. Now, it seems there is serious product quality issues and unless the company does something to help so many people with the same issues, I will not be purchasing anything with the RCA logo for a very long time.

We have bought 4 different media straming boxes. This one had the best options in netflix and listed all the movies by catagory instead of the minimal few like all the other boxes. this being said, we LOVED THIS BOX, but from day one the remote only worked when you stood directly infront of it within 3 feet. this was REDICULOUS! we took it back to store after having it just 8 DAYS! We loved the box so much that we would have purchased a universal remote for it, but could not find one compatible.

If you buy this which is not recommended, go ahead and pick up a new battery. It's low to flat dead right out of the box. Even with a new battery the remote is a thin piece of junk. Won't work well even 1 ft from the box. Save the cash...go roku.

For $40 a piece, we bought 2 of these units 3 months ago and both have been working fine. They are a little hokey to set up, because you have to go through a keyboard menu using the remote to set it up, but once it's done, using the unit is pretty easy to use. Sure, there are units out there that have better remotes, are easier to set up and are more responsive, but for the price of these units, I'm able to watch NetFlix on 2 different TVs instead of one if I bought a more expensive unit. And once the movie is playing, who cares about how fancy the media player is, so as long as the popcorn pops.

Used this product a total of 6 times and the remote is already shot. I tried a new battery and still nothing. I would suggest spending a little more money for a little better product. The box itself is fine, but the remote is horrible. The box is useless without the remote because it has no buttons on the box to turn on or off nor does it have navigation buttons and you cannot find a universal remote at walmart that will connect to the box. DON"T BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
