Best Movie at Cannes Film Festival! I've seen this movie 6 times in the theater, and each time I find something new to discover. BEAUTIFUL imagery and music. Now, this is not your ordinary grab-a-bag-of-popcorn movie, but one that will ask you to participate and THINK. I've sat next to sobbing conservative men, teenagers who talked about it for a week after as well as those who just didn't get it. Early in the film there is about a 20 min segment simulating the creation of the universe, (this is after Mrs. O'Brian asks "Where were you?"). Be patient and enjoy the music and imagery, or just fast forward to get back to the story if you don't want to partake.

My pet peeve is directors who hold a camera two feet from an actor's face. That causes the viewer to suffer. However, Malick takes it a step farther. He seems to be following the actors around with a hand held camera. Bad. The editing is choppy in an attempt, I guess, to save the bad filming. When Brad Pitt is in a movie, we want to see Brad Pitt. In this case, he's disguised which would not be so bad, but he flashes onto the screen in two second bursts. And who the woman is droning in a monotone sophomoric viewpoints about life, well, I have no idea.
