I bought this hard drive with great expectations, but it came with no instructions until I found the software and installed it. Since installing it and downloading my computer contents on it things have been hit and miss. There are times that my computer fails to do anything. I can't even turn my computer off using the start button. If I unplug the hard drive my computer will no longer work. On the other hand there are times that things work normally. I can't help but wonder what's going to happen in the event that I have to use it to install the contents to a new computer. Maybe I'm just a dummy, but things have not been as simple as advertised.

Your Problem

I do not know about the instructions, but concerning your computer having trouble turning off and such, you most likely accidently made the external hard drive the hard drive for your computer. In other words, instead of your computer running off of its own hard drive, it is running off of the external hard drive. You will need to switch that.

I used this drive to store all my important files from my computer, contracts, work photos, family photos, drawings and designs, etc. It makes it easy to access what I need when going to another office or customer. It also assures that if my computer ever crashes, everything I need will be safe and sound.
