This is a compact book shelf perfect for any kid's room. My 7 year old is able to put a fair amount of DVD's, wii games, board games, as well as her books. The top of the shelf is perfect for frames, trophies, or more storage.

I rented an apartment and was looking for a cheap and simple bookcase for storage space. Since I'll be moving (again) 8 months later, I'm not expecting some high-end bookshelf that can last 10 years. All I need is something that I can put together by myself and looks fine in my bedroom.
For the price, I would say look no further. You can't expect a real wood 3-shelf bookcase for 20 bucks, and for the price I paid, I'm quite satisfied with what I got.
The instruction for assembly is quite clear. It's not a step-by-step instruction but it tells you exactly what to do with each particle board and accessories. Took me about 30 mins to put them all together.
The shipment is really fast. I placed my order Wednesday and it's at my door Friday noon.
The only negative thing that really bothered me is the smell. I would recommend opening the box outside or by the open window so you won't get choked by the smell of the paint. Assemble the bookcase near where you want to put it(if you move the bookcase A LOT after assembled it, say drag it around your house, it's very likely to collapse after weeks of use), but make sure there's a window and the window's open so the smell airs out. It takes at least a week for the paint smell to fade away.
In general, if you are in college and is looking for a bookcase to put in your dorm, or if you just graduated, has a limited budget and is looking for a bookcase to put in your rented apartment, I would recommend this.

This company needs to do some serious quality control. I bought 2 this size and 2 of the 5 shelf ones. Okay so yes they are super CHEAP and super cheaply made. The first one I opened didn't even have all the holes drilled into the boards where they were supposed to be. Rather than go through the hassle of returning these (the boxes are HEAVY and hard to get into so once you open them forget getting them back in the box) we drilled the holes ourselves. These are made in america (partly why I bought them) sadly I've seen better come from China, it pains me to even say that grrr! Come on Ameriwood get it together! The back boards are cardboard and you can clearly tell even from a distance they are because of how they were folded. They serve their purpose for us but if you want something even remotely sturdy and decently made, spend a little more and get something better.

Good price, sturdy, and looks great. The espresso color does fabulously well with my decor. Took two weeks to arrive. There weren't any damages or flaws. Super Easy to put together. Use one for the kitchen and the other for the child's bedroom. Will probably order another set of espresso so that the child's bedroom will have two and the other one will go into a different bedroom to hold music books.

This desk is very cheap but yet quite pricey. It shouldn't be more than $30 for the quality but it does meet my needs and fits nice in our corner. We had to down size from a large desk when we moved and only had a corner to put a desk so this was a good alternative. It took quite a bit of time to put together and if you're not careful before u put the top on you'll rip the screws out just by moving it the wrong way, but we made due. It is pretty sturdy but the shelves are not very deep so u can't fit a lot on them so I just bought baskets to put things in. That fixed my problem.

Easy to assemble

I recently assembled lots of furniture and toys for my newborn son. Several times, I ended up in tears or with a migraine! But these were super simple! I did them by myself on a Friday night while my husband was at work. Once I got the first one done, I managed the other 3 pretty quickly - probably about 15 minutes each. I needed minimal tools and strength - and brainpower to decipher the instructions... they were really simple.
As for the quality - you get what you pay for. this is NOT an investment piece for long-term use. The backing is basically cardboard. When I was assembling it, I put one nail a bit too close to the edge and ended up pushing up some of the laminate. They are holding ALL books, and pretty heavy ones - the instructions indicate each of the 3 shelves can hold up to 50lbs - so total, 150 lbs of stuff.
Overall, I'd buy these again, because I needed a cheap fix. Hopefully, because they are just bookshelves, they'll be around for awhile.

While this bookcase met my needs so well I purchased a second one, I must say it may not fit everyone's needs, especially if they have children. The bookcase is fastened with screws and not very stable. For my needs, with my children grown and me retired, it's perfect in my bedroom. The top shelf is not weight bearing but the 3 shelves below it will bear 50 lbs. each.
