Review 1 for First Act 36" Acoustic Guitar

Poorly constructed

I am an instrumental music teacher. This includes teaching guitar lessons at a small school. Last year, four students brought this particular model of guitar to school for their first lesson of the year and of the four, three were unplayable/defective. The same problem affected all three: The strings were so close to the neck that they either buzzed against the fret when they were played or played the wrong pitch all together.
I have since updated my lesson policy to include that First Act guitars are not acceptable instruments to bring to lessons. These guitars are simply just a toy.
I recommend visiting an actual music store when purchasing a guitar. You will certainly benefit from the expertise of the staff who can find the right size and style of guitar for your child. You will pay more, but it will be worth the difference.

I am 56 years old and have been playing since I was 15. I am surprised at the quality and sound of this guitar. The action, even at the octave is pretty good... I am a "seasoned" beginner who plays finger-style blues. and am very satisfied with the tone and playability...

my daughter saw this guitar on the toy isle and decided she wanted to try it and did but after getting it home we found that it did not want to stay in tune and the strings were difficult to press down so the playability was horrible. I'm a grown man and have played a little in the past and know a couple of chords and it was difficult to press the strings to play them and impossible for my little girl. I don't know maybe you could get it adjusted to were it would be easier but if you could I still don't know if it would be worth it considering the cost I'm sure would incur to have that done verses just buying a better quality guitar to begin with.. Thinking about the purchase afterwards I found that we would have done better taking that money and going to a pawn shop to get a guitar that was easier to play.

I fingerpick and I actually learned on this guitar. It was the only one at the store, and before I learned about walmart.com, so I got this one.
Yes, it is small. I mean it. It's 36", whereas the average is about 38". The two tuning pegs at the tip of the guitar (D and G) do come loose every now and then. However, I've had it for a year now and it's still in pretty good shape.
Overall, in my opinion, it's a good starter guitar. It's not bad, but it's not great, either. If you have the money and are interested in starting, I'd find a 38" guitar and a guitar tuner. Wal-Mart does sell bundles like that.
