I have purchased several Magnavox products from tv's, vcr's, dvd player's...etc. I have never had a problem out of any of them! I decided to turn to them for a blu-ray. I decided to purchase this blu-ray, mainly for the Netflix but the picture is amazing and for the price, I have no complaints. I guess magnavox has a life long customer with this quality!

Blu-ray disc player frequently stalls and locks up the discs. After releasing the pause it fast forwards the film five to ten seconds. Player shuts itself off and will not power on again. Player jams. This began happening within the first few weeks of ownership. I was a fool not to return it.

Review 5 for Magnavox MBP5210/F7 Wi-Fi Blu-ray Disc Player
I am returning this once I get it back from a colleague of mine (a windows certified, cisco certified computer specialist).
I consider myself quite computer savvy. In fact I have taught Concepts of PC Hardware and Local Area Networks (part of the A+ Certification requirements) at a local Community College.
This device has two ways you can hook it up: wired or wireless. For each of these options, there is an automatic set up as well as a manual set up. In addition, for wireless connections, there is a WPS (wifi protected setup) -- you basically push a button on your router and click an option on the MBP5210 and everything works out for you. Sounds easy, eh?
Well, WPS as well as the auto setup for wireless would not remember the settings once the unit was powered off or put in standby mode. Interestingly, the unit recalled the wireless settings when entered manually after power off / standby but would not connect to the DHCP client.
So I tried the wired option. The unit would not connect automatically to the router (DHCP) so I entered the settings in manually with no success either.
I gave the unit to another professional who had duplicate results.
One of the biggest issues with this unit is that the LAN connector in the back has no lights so you can't tell from a hardware standpoint if the unit is connecting or not
-----
While all this was going on I checked out the ROKU. I got a ROKU HD for $49 including shipping. It not only connected to VUDU and Netflix but I could also connect to Amazon, Hulu, Crackle and more! Plus a free app allows you to control this via or android- or apple- smartphone.
I am taking this piece of junk back to Walmart for a refund. Clearly from the other reviews, this is an intermittent and inconsistent problem with the MBP5210. Not worth your effort to see if you are "lucky" and get a unit that works.
Though I should be grateful it didn't work because I wouldn't have checked out other options and found ROKU! Learn from my mistake and spend $49 on a ROKU HD instead of $79 on this junk.

Review 6 for Magnavox MBP5210/F7 Wi-Fi Blu-ray Disc Player
This was one of the lowest priced blu-ray players on the market with Wi-Fi. Bought it to in order to watch Netflix and Hulu on the TV along with the hi-def video for upconverting DVDs and playing blu-rays. Slow for the apps accessing Netflix but it stays connected for the entire movie. I would say that so far it has operated exactly as expected for the price.

OK, so the bottom line here is functionality and value! I got this Magnavox unit on sale early last year for $48 and have been using it without any problems ever since! The Blu-Ray looks great on my run of the mill 37" Vizio, as does the Netflix when I stream a movie. Granted that the apps are a little slow loading and navigating, (seems when I read the reviews of most Wifi Blu-ray players under a $100 they all have slow connections) but once the movie gets loaded and playing, I never have any problems with it buffering. I have one other under $100 Blu-Ray, a Dynex, it won't stay connected, won't play half of the discs I put in it and the streaming apps never work right! I have none of those issues with the Magnavox AT ALL!!! I recently added a low end Phillips sound bar to the aforementioned setup and the audio the Magnavox sends out is great too! So, if you compare all the reviews of $100 and under units, this unit seems to be ahead of most, and I would concur! I have always had good luck with Magnavox products, and this little guy is just another example of that!

Ok, yes I am a techie person so my expectations may be a bit higher. But trying to get NetFilx and other net apps to load then navigate through them is painful. Other than that I suppose it's ok. But if your used to a TV that has net apps built in, you're probably used to a much faster moving machine and this will drive you nuts.

Hooked up this player and went to setup. Located and connected my WiFi and connected quickly. Next step was to update the software. Player located the latest version and started the download of software updates. Update failed and player basically became unusable. No matter what we tried it went to the update processing which always failed. No way out of this loop so had no choice but to return it. Others have reported this same issue so it seems to be a common problem. Avoid this Blueray player and wait for a newer version from Magnavox or another brand.

This Blu-ray player is good priced but don't let that fool you! The WiFi doesn't work very well at all, and the disc drive is very picky about what discs it plays! Netflix is horrible on it too! The only way to run the Netflix is through the instant queue. There is no search option on the App! Don't waste your money on this cheap piece of junk!

I purchased my player for $58. I had been looking for an inexpensive streaming video player and found more than I imagined I would get for my money. Set up was easy and quick. I love that is it wifi ready although I chose to use a direct connection. I tried connecting to wifi and it too was simple. I purchased it originally to play with Netflix, but ended up with a blu-ray and dvd player too...a lot for the money.

We have had this player for 1 year now and have never liked it. It won't play movies that have automatic playback, even if we've never played the movie before. It spins and spins the disk and takes forever to load, if it ever does. There's no way to tell if it's playing, paused, or what the player is doing since there is no view screen that tells you. Don't buy, huge waste of money!

Not worth the money - does NOT work with NETFLIX

Bought this specifically to use with NETFLIX, and it DOES NOT WORK with Netflix properly. Magnavox claims that it is a problem with the Netflix app and stated on numerous occasions that they cannot fix it...even told me that I would just have to "deal with it." Since we ONLY watch TV on Netflix (no cable or satellite), and the fact that is just wrong, we went and got one that actually works like it says it does. IF YOU WANT TO USE NETFLIX, DON'T BUY THIS BLU-RAY DVD PLAYER.
