This is my 2nd serger (my other one was almost 30 yrs old). Easy to use & has many more options for use. Great for novice or beginner. If you watch the videos.... you will not have any difficulties running this machine.

First Serger I've owned or used. Viewed You-Tube videos on threading machine, which made it much easier. Go to You-Tube and do a search on Threading a Brother 1034D Serger. Very happy with this machine as it works very well with no hidden "gotcha's". I've only had it for a couple of weeks but did quite a bit of sewing with it and no problems.

Good serger for the home. I am still trying to get used to using it so i cant say much about it. But i love that i can overlock my garments. It is a bit hard to control the pedal however. If i want to go slow and press the pedal gently it wont really go and i end up going fast. That could be just me who cant control the pedal speed yet though.

This machine was a gift and a fantastic one. Watched this product and its reviews for some time. Now that I have it and used it, I am not disappointed. I love this machine for many reasons; one is that it uses regular spools of thread and is so easy to thread. There are videos online that show how to use this product. I recommend this serger for the beginner or experienced seamstress. Great machine and great price. Thank you Brother for another great product!

I have never used a serger before. I did have to view a video on the internet to get all the spools rethreaded as I could not determine where the thread went from the drawings in the manual. It works good for 4 thread serging and that is all I have tried. If I press the foot pedal down slowly, it makes a humming noise and I need to turn the hand wheel to get it started sewing. It will start on its own if I depress the foot pedal down all the way.

Great compact serger! Easy to work with, it comes threaded. I had to thread again one of the loops (my mistake) and it was easy to do following the dvd and manual instructions. I haven't had the time to experiment with the machine but so far it had been easy to use with great results. I bought it on line one afternoon with regular shipping and by my surprise it was delivered the next day.

Reviewed several different sergers and this one seemed to get top ratings from the several sites I went to. Have only used it on one item so far and everything went well. Discs included were very helpful explaining the functions and techniques to use when serging but am going to take a class to get more information.

While I have used sergers before, I have never actually owned my own. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that I purchased this serger and wish I had bought it a long time ago.
The videos that come with it along the instruction book are very helpful. Threading the machine I thought would be alot harder. I watched the video and did just fine.
I sew costumes for church and civic theatre, right now I am just fixing fraying seams on the costumes, but I look forward to learning about the other features this machine will do.

I love my new Brother Serger! It is very easy to use, does everything I expected and more.
My old serger is a Singer Ultralock from 1991! It has served me well in my sewing business. But I wanted the differential feed and the newer options available and decided to go with the best, The Brother 1034D! Great machine for the money considering I paid 935. for my old one!

This is my first serger and I love it! I reviewed the Singer and the Brother online and out of almost 600 reviews, only 18 were 1 to 3 stars on this machine, whereas the Singer had around 44 reviews and they were mostly bad and mediocre. I read the book and watched several videos on youtube before I tested it out. I broke the thread on the lower looper right off the bat because I forgot to pull the spindle up all the way before I tried to test it. I went to the video on youtube from the lady that shows you how to thread it (not the cd that came with it) and I re-threaded it with no problems. I have sewed one dress and re-threaded with white thread since it came with multicolored thread that was not working with my color theme. I threaded it with no problems and the machine sewed perfectly. I have been sewing since I was a young girl and I have used several brands of sewing machines throughout my life. I also have the Brother Disney Embroidery machine. I think it will do nicely for what projects will be sewing at home.

although the Brother sergers are highly rated, I never opened this one, because I learned, AFTER I had ordered it, that the needle had to be threaded manually.(That fact was not mentioned in the product description).,,, I cannot see well enough to do that, so I returned it immediately...without even opening it ! BTW< the Walmart service was OUTSTANDING! It came to my door 2 days after ordering it.....amazingly quick!

It is easy to thread and very easy to operate.
I love that in the front of the machine there is a little drawing showing me where each thread will show on my garnment. I have had four sergers and this is the best by far and it is the less expensive.
I love that there are several videos on youtube on this machine.

I've been sewing for many years and I've been wanting to make my seams look nicer so I bought this serger. VERY easy to use! I absolutely love it. I've even done rolled hems with it and just completed a crib bedding set for a customer with it. I've only had it two weeks and I've never used a serger before. I even completed an outfit for my daughter. The hardest thing about the machine is threading it. The videos that came with it are dated and a little difficult to follow, but there are good online videos to help. Definitely recommend this machine!!!
