Review 1 for Gold's Gym StrideTrainer 410 Elliptical

Seems solid, but design flaw.

27 M 170lbs and 25 F 115lbs. We bought this hoping it was the best item for the best price. However, I personally don't think it's good to be used by individuals who weigh more than 140-150lbs. The main joint--where the upright bar is screwed to the front of the base--has a design flaw in my opinion. Every time I use it, I have to tighten the screws back up. It's not a huge deal, and we're still getting plenty of use out of it, but it is definitely disappointing and a pain.
Granted, it is a solid piece of equipment, and the size and feel resemble many of the high-end ellipticals at gyms. It has a nice little fan, but won't blow you away. There are speakers that get the job done, but are not very nice quality. It is great that it has 12 different workouts, and the resistance is very good. Overally, I'd give it a so-so rating. Under $400 isn't a ton of a money, so maybe we got what we paid for.

Bought this elliptical and put it together only to realize that the resistance didn't work. Called customer service department and waited on hold for a very long time. trouble shooted with them over the phone and they believed it was the motor. So they sent a motor that took a week to come in only to find out it was the wrong one! So I had my husband take it apart and bring it back to wal mart. He exchanged that one for the same thing. So he puts it together and the resistance also doesn't work right. This time it's just stiff...No differrence between 1 and 12 and is making a loud noise!

Don't purchase due to the hard pedals

This elliptical was easy enough to put together but two things: (1) It wasn't machined correctly and (2) The hard pedals on it dig into your feet as you're using it. Very painful. If you don't believe me, try it out at the store.

LOUD! LOUD! LOUD! Do not buy!

We just returned this to the store today. We tried to make it work for over two months, but could not quiet the thing down. It creaks loudly with every step! We tried lubricating it and different types of washers. Nothing would keep it quiet. Couldn't hear the television over it. It has a very poor design. It can't stand the stress of the arm motions on the vertical upright. Before a 30 minute session was over the five screws at the base of the front upright pole had to be tightened. This happened EVERY time it was used. Doing this only kept the noise level down to a squeak for about five minutes, anyway. It's too bad, because the operational part of it worked good. Good work out. The programs worked well with the resistance, but with the poor design, who knows how long it would have been before it broke. Couldn't stand to get on it with all the noise it makes. We HAD to take it back. It would drive anyone crazy unless they have ear phones on turned up loud the whole time. Anyone in an apartment using it would probably get an eviction notice. Absolutely do not waste your time and money on this one!

We bought this machine 6 weeks ago after reading mixed reviews. My husband and I each use the machine three times per week. Machine was easy to put together. The I-fit technology is not very good, sound is in and out when using the machine. The fan is nice. Machine started a squeak the first five minutes into the first workout. Squeak has gotten a bit louder. Overall this is a good machine, great workout for the price you pay.

Solid equipment for the money.

The elliptical itself seems to be good quality for the money.
Out of the box this was a interesting project! LOTS of pieces to put together in order to build this, but the assembly instuctions were pretty easy to follow. I did have to Dremmel one of the bushings to make it fit correctly but it still only took a couple hours to finish (with some assistance). I also had one broken plastic piece so I called GG and they are sending a replacement.
I would recommend purchasing the Proform 6v power adapter from Walmart when you order the elliptical, especially if you plan to use the console cooling fan, sound system, or ifit (the power adapter has to be ordered, they don't carry them in the store).

I like this elliptical... is it the best of the best and highest quality? No but what do you expect for that price. It's still a good value for a home gym in my opinion. The elliptical was shipped to a walmart near me where I picked it up. It fit in my little jeep liberty with half the backseat folded down. It is very heavy... will take 2 people to carry. I didn't have helps so I opened the box and carried it up in pieces to my 3rd floor apt... one of the pieces is really heavy so I would really recommend just getting help. It recommends 2 people to set it up, but I set it up by myself in like idk 45 min but I was taking my time and tightening and greasing things well. I also bought an AC adapter to plug it into the wall from walmart's electronics department so that's nice not having to deal with batteries. I like working out on the elliptical because you can increase or decrease the resistance and you have a lower perceived exertion. I like that I can plug my Ipod into it and the workouts are pretty nice. The stride length seems okay for me (I'm 5'3") but I think anyone taller than like 5'8" would want a longer stride length. I did NOT however like the Jillian Michaels audio coaching.... it's loud- I haven't found volume control- and it's annoying... so much of the time she is talking up the elliptical... I'm like shut up I already bought it you don't have to keep trying to sell it to me lol. I wish the foot pedals didn't have hard plastic ridges, because safe or not I sometimes like to workout barefoot or in my socks... I do on this machine but it's not as comfortable as it could be. I've had the elliptical for about 1 1/2 years and I haven't had any problems with it. It seems pretty durable but I do take care of it.

It was definitely a two-person job putting it together but wasn't that hard all-in-all. It runs well and we got the DC adapter so that we wouldn't have to use batteries to get the programming to work. I like having the option to not go to the gym and just walk into our spare room where this elliptical is located and it does what I want it to do.

You get what you pay for. 13 Months a part broke

I bought this machine 14 months ago. Never using an elliptical before, I did not want to spend a lot of money. So I purchased this from Walmart. I used it every day from 30min-1hr. It does work and will help you lose weight. However, much like many reviewers have mentioned, it does squeak a lot. A couple of weeks ago, the "upper body leg (part #6)" of the right arm cracked. It occured at the weld joint. So now, I'm at a point where I need to decide to pump another $124 to get a replacement part or cut my losses and get a higher quality, albeit more expensive machine. I'm leaning towards the latter, as I am unsure when (not if), the next part will break.

I just bought this machine last night from my local Wal-Mart after returning a Schwinn brand elliptical that I hated. I was worried about this machine because it is a cheaper brand. This machine meets and exceeds my expectations! The value was great for the price. The fan works great and helps a lot when I'm hot, it has high and low. The built in workouts insure I am getting a great work out without the business of changing the resistence, this machine does it for you. I like to listen to music and this machine comes with a cord that hooks to the machine and your ipod. The speakers work great! I was watching TV and I wanted to try out the speakers and I could hear the music over my TV! You can control the loudness by turning it down through your ipod. I love how quit this machine is I workout while my son is taking a nap even if he was in the same room I would not wake him up. While working out there was no noise at all! Even when the machine is changing the resistence it is very quit. I love how the machine feels while in motion. I am 5'6 and the stride is perfect for me. I also noticed this machine can be very intense for all those who are already in great shape. I have been working out sense age 18 and I am now28. This machine has a built in ifit slot for ifit cards. I listened to my music and could still hear the trainer well. This machine has something for the beginner and the already experienced. Putting this machine together was easy I did it myself in about an hour. I will say this machine is big, but I have the room. This machine is heavy, but it does have a handle on the back for easy moving. I love how they made the wheels. They are not like most wheels that are so small they barely work. These wheels are larger then most and make it very easy to move around if needed. I was surprised at the back of the machine (the round part) it is large it comes about three inches above my knee when standing beside it. Again I'm 5'6. The bottom part of the sides are made of plastic, but everything else is heavy mettle where needed. Any more mettle on this would make it that much more heavy. I would recommend this product to anyone with the suggested space. I love this machine and look forward to having it for many years!

We recently upgraded all of our fitness equipment at Walmart. We purchased a hone gym, bike, treadmill, and eliptical. We are enjoying all of our products. The eliptical was the most time consuming to assemble, but it was not too bad. The machines is nice and smooth and quite, great flow of movement. This machine gives you a great work out at a great price.

This eliptical is great for the money. It is quiet and smooth, and it gives you a great workout. The only negatives is the display is not illuminated and the angle of the display needs to face up more. I am 6' 1", so I have to stop moving and stoop down to read the display. A big positive for me was the great instructions that allowed me to assemble it in less than an hour. Lastly, it seems sturdy enough to handle my 193 lb frame, so I like it! I recommend this product.

This machine takes about 3 hours to assemble; 3 small glitches are the tie down through the main front frame piece...it goes through the narrow channel & the base comm wire will not pull up through until you change the channel path; the electronic read out should have been on an adjustable plate..if you are 5'10" or taller, you have to bend to see it; for an extra $5, they could have included a power supply....alas......
Overall, a good machine & I would buy one again.

I am a small woman and was able to put this together from start to finish by myself. It took about 2 hours, and I had absolutely no issues. I read a few other reviews that talked about screw and bolt holes not lining up, but I didn't experience that at all. Everything was packed well and directions were outlined simply. I found them really easy to follow. Once together, I was surprised at how smooth and easily it ran. It is so quiet! The fan is great and the ipod connector is awesome. The only slight disappointment is that the screen is very small and you don't have a lot of options as far as setting the screen up so you see what you want. But, overall, I am very happy with this product and hope it holds up for a while.

It's so bad! But I'm not mad. :-/

I bought this machine from my local WalMart one year ago. It's still running-- so far. I don't regret buying it. Would I buy it again? No.
I did a lot of research before buying, and found that you get what you pay for. A really good elliptical costs $1000 or more. This machine is pretty much as cheap as it gets relative to the size of the machine. If you're expecting a good product at this price (around $400 or less), you are kidding yourself! This is as good-bad as it gets.
A company called Icon makes Gold's Gym, Nordic Track, Welso, Proform, and other machines. You think you have choice by looking at other brands-- truth is, you don't.
I bought the StrideTrainer 410 because I'm not wealthy and I need to exercise at home. I knew this machine would be low quality. So I was prepared for the disappointments. I had to call the company for help during assembly because the directions were unclear, and months later, one of the handle bars snapped off! I had to wait about 2 weeks for the part. But it was under warranty with no charge, so that's OK. I used email and had no customer service problems. But I was also patient! Being nice helps, folks.
But now I'm out of warranty, so things can only get worse. I'll have to pay for Icon's shoddy parts from now on. One of the foot pedals has a screwhole which is shearing off pieces of metal and plastic (?). Once that piece fails, I'll have to replace it-- and I'm so not looking forward to that!
I use my 410 elliptical 6 days a week for one hour each, and I push it HARD. No fibbing. I really do use it a lot. I'm also fat, just 20-30 lbs. under the weight limit for this machine (yes, there is one-- look out). If you're lazier, your machine will probably last longer. If this thing gives up within the year, I'll be sad but not shocked.
In conclusion:
This is a good starter elliptical if a) You don't mind DIY work b) you understand that this is a cheap machine and it will break in one way or another c) can be patient with Icon's customer service d) you can't afford a 'nice' one
Now that I know that I LOVE riding my elliptical, I'll spend more on my next one after this one falls apart. Which could be anytime.
