This game uses both the wiimote and the nunchuk together which can be too difficult for very small children. (I don't know if the classic controller can be used with it or not to simplify it for smaller children.) However, what I did was, when we first got our wii and this game, I played it while my 3 year old son watched & he loved it! It is bright, colorful, and has interesting enemies and worlds. By the time he was 6 he was a pro at using the wiimote and nunchuk together and plays it very well now with no problem. Don't get me wrong, just because my son was able to be successful with this game at 6 it is not a game that is too simplistic. He is just very good at games.
While 2 people cannot play seperate characters at the same time, someone can use a 2nd wiimote to stun enemies for the first player to kill them or to do whatever else is needed or they can collect star bits and coins for the first player.
In my opinion it is simple enough for a child to begin with and have fun but it is challenging enough for an adult to play and laugh at themselves which is why I give it such a high rating.
As for price, when I bought this game it was $50. Compared to some of the other games available at that time I thought it was an OK price. Now, you can get it most places new for about $20. I think is an awesome game at this price and have even bought others to give as gifts because I definitely think it is a great game that is now a great value and an asset to any wii library.

A must have for the Mario fan. Hours of fun for all ages. The graphics game play and story are amazing. Best game for the price. Even in co-op mode in the game two people can play and enjoy both taking turns controlling Mario and catching Star bits. Wondering what I'm talking about? Grab this great game and open up Mario's Galaxy.

I bought this game to show my mom what the original Mario is like. this game is challenging and exciting for any age and i would give it to anyone. when my Grandma comes over im gonna teach her to play too. The way that it teaches you to use the controls is nice adn how each level gets a little harder keeps things interesting.

This game has been a big hit with my 6-year old daughter and her dad. They play it constantly. It is great because you can have two players operating on the same screen. So my daughter is able to help dad in the quest to complete the screens handling the smaller tasks while he conquers the larger ones. They enjoy this for hours. I even find him playing long after she has put it down. Great buy for the money!

Knowing that it will be a galaxy theme, it was the Mario game I excluded from my list when I bought the Wii. I usually buy every Mario game but this one I had doubts with. New concepts in games that were successful did not come through me. But, after hearing people say it's one of the best Mario games, I decided to give it a try. The low price also tugged me into buying it too. When I played the first level, the game made me nostalgic about why I loved Mario games in the first place. This game is so much fun! Not too easy, not too hard. Well, I've only gotten it recently and I'm only in the Terrace so I'm sure it will be much more challenging in later galaxies. I was dizzy after playing the first level so I only play one or two levels each time. But, dizziness aside, this game exceeded my expectations. It proved me wrong! And I love that! Can't wait to buy the sequel! What are you waiting for? Don't read anymore reviews! This should make you feel like playing it already! Go add it to your cart ^_^ Happy playing!

This is a great game! My son loves super mario bros and recently completed the super mario bros game that came with his Wii. He really wanted Mario Galaxy1 so with a gift card he got for Christmas we purchased it. Great price and as usual, awesome shipping price. He loves the game. It's an all around view, not just one direction so you can go backwards, forwards, up and down, like 3D. Pretty great, and full of color! It keeps him entertained and he thinks it's great so I do too! Worth buying.
