having owned both pfaff and berninia machines, out of the box, hands down, easiest to own. Bought this since my friend has my pfaff in his garage that got flooded. VERY simple electronics, not like the big boys but serves the purpose. Have not tried denim yet, but i'm sure 2 layers wont be a problem. Had a project that needed to be done the day I bought this, done and paid. Brother machines are very high quality, have owned 5 and gave them to friends in need. Only concern is that it is very light. Seeing plastic gears. Time will tell!!

Just been using it for a week or so now. It's so smooth and quiet...doesn't shake the table like my old machine did. I love, love, love the automatic buttonhole function and all the finishing stitches it has. Still trying to get used to the location of the reverse stitch button (kind of like looking for the clutch when you've just switched to an automatic transmission) but I'm getting the hang of it. I'll be able to do way more with this machine than my old one (the old one is a Brother, too and it still goes like a champ). Very exciting!

I bought this machine when the Kenway Elite I used for my etsy business wore out. I needed something quick (customers were waiting on their orders), and a machine that could sew through many layers of fabric. I sew electronic cases, diaper bags etc., so I need to be able to sew through two layers of fleece, two layers of interfacing and 4 layers of fabric. This machine goes through it all. On the really thick areas I need to slow way down, but it still gets through it all and I haven't bent a needle yet. I sew an average of 5 hours a day, 5 days a week and my Brother is still going strong almost a year later. If the machine starts stitching weird, check the lent trap and clean out the area under the needle, which is very easy to get to without any tools. I clean mine out once a week, and have no more "bad" stitches. The buttonhole attachment snaps on easily and makes pretty good buttonholes, but I sew each buttonhole twice to make them thicker and stronger for the products I make. There are a few plastic parts on this machine that I'm curious about how long they'll last, like the thread catcher in the bobbin area, but for the price and how much I use it - I am extremely happy with this machine.

I had never used a sewing machine before, and had recently gotten into hand-sewing doll clothes. My fiance bought me this machine for Christmas, and it has been wonderful! I'm still exploring all the options, but every issues I've come across I've been able to figure out and fix on my own. I would definitely recommend!

What a piece of JUNK! I can't get it packed back up fast enough! I will be returning this junk tomorrow. I have been fooling with this junk all evening. I just took this junk out of the box today. It is such a HUGE disappointment. It is incredibly hard to thread and the automatic threader does not work. When I try and sew it comes unthreaded. The bobbin thread gets tangled and I get an error message. I have to cut the bobbin loose and turn the machine off to reset the error message.
They don't make anything like they used to I guess but this is just plastic - plastic - plastic! I will stick with my old machine....YUK

I can't speak as a highly experienced crafter here, but I can tell you that this is a GREAT machine for someone who is just starting. I have never sewn before, but I picked this up at Walmart. I'd intended on getting a Janome, but after seeing Walmart didn't carry the one I had intended on buying, I chose this one based on the accessories that came with it, the dependability of "Brother" brand that I'd heard about, and the fact that I like Project Runway ;) Upon opening the box, I was a little overwhelmed at first, and getting everything set up was slightly confusing, however, with help from youtube videos and the instruction manual, I was able to figure it out easily and so far I have been REALLY impressed with this machine! Very happy with my purchase & I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

we buy these machines for the high school costume shop. they are easy for beginners to learn on. they don't hold up well to constant abuse but last for about 2 years. if not abused, i think this would be a great machine for light sewing. it doesn't do well with heavy fabrics like denim and upholstery fabric.

This is a very good product. The machine is light enough to be easily moved from one place to another and it sews very nicely. It is not for industrial use and it is limited to the thickness of fabric used, for example; it does not do well with heavy denim. I would recommend this machine without hesitation.

OMG, I've had a great time sewing on my new Project Runway sewing machine and I am a good seamstress . I love all the stitches, can hardly wait to try some of the more floral ones. The first thing I did was to try out my machine by refitting the waistband and lengthening on 4 sets of pants. Sewing was easy once I got use to the slight delay the machine does because it is computerized. Love the easy instructions and the simple led screed I can set easily. Bottom line the machine stitches are even, tight and beautiful, what's not to like?

I bought this sewing machine for myself and my 7 year old daughter, so she could learn how to sew. We both really like the ease of use and she has already sewn 3 projects.

Brother is known for value priced machines, this one is definitely that. This model embroiders, does button holes, zippers, and so much more! It is easy to use, a perfect machine for a budding seamster or seamstress. The 25 year warrantee is unheard of in a machine at this price point. It seems to user friendly as well. If given the opportunity, would definitely buy this machine again. The manual is very clear as well. I highly recommend this item.

I got my machine about 3 months ago. I have enjoyed it so much. I have made a couple of nightshirts for my buddy and me and I made a gown for my cousin who is disabled.
I haven't had ANY trouble with the machine. I keep the lint out of it, which is very important. Lint from the fabric and the thread can accumulate and choke the machine.
The first time I used it, I almost ran the needle off the fabric at the end of a seam. It went fast and my old machine was powered by a mule.
The needle threader can be tricky at times. I always keep my magnifying glass close by in case the threader doesn't want to catch the thread.
I am a guy and I wish there more guy things to make. Seems like all the patterns are for babies, little girls, and women and the unisex stuff. I don't like the unisex stuff.
You won't be disappointed with this machine.

I had a sewing machine that I was using that I'd had for 25 years. It just wasn't worth the repair it needed so I got this machine. I chose this one because it was middle of the road on price and I thought it would be a quality machine since it bears the Brother name. I liked that there were so many stitch choices and accessories included. While I am still enjoying the features of this machine, I really can't stand how weak the motor is. It makes this ridiculous sound and I feel like I need to cower because it might throw a needle in my eye! It gives error messages all the time and I am not trying to sew anything extreme. I think if I can hand spin the wheel and the needle is able to go into the fabric, the motor should have at least as much power as my hand. I have also noticed that at times it seems to be confused and runs backwards after using the reverse. I have to turn it off and then back on to reset it. I would also like to be able to adjust the feed dogs more than just up or down. Sometimes they don't seem to be high enough and the material slides around even though it isn't a slippery or lightweight material. I gave the machine a 4 because I think it serves its purpose with a few limitations. If I had been a more advanced sewer or not in such a hurry to buy a new machine, I would have done more research and found a machine that had a stronger motor. I just didn't know I needed to worry about that with a big name brand. I don't think it is worth this price, though. I would recommend it to someone who is just doing basic sewing and doesn't need any sort of power. Also, I would buy it again if it was priced lower.

I bought this machine in February and it wound up n the shop as soon as April. The tension is always the issue along with a problem with the bobbin case. Since then it has been in the shop twice more for the same problem. I called manufacturer and they want me to put it in the shop AGAIN! I. Not an expert. I'm a beginner. At first I thought it was my error, but when I've read directions and followed troubleshooting directions and the machine is still doing this almost a year later, I think it is the result of a faulty product.

I bought this machine on Black Friday; received it the following Wednesday. I feel very confident with the many features and I no longer feel insecure about all the special things this machine can do that I was unsure of doing with my old machine. I would recommend this machine highly and I am very satisfied.
