Review 2 for Black & Decker 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker
Piece of junk

This coffee maker lasted just over two months before it quit workinging. It just shorted out. The hotplate won't heat up and pump won't lift the water into the basket. I'm left with about a $27 clock that's hard to see. This is the 2nd Black & Decker that I've owned and neither was worth the cost of the packaging. We'll never buy another one, no matter how attractive they are.

Just a quick note to give credit where credit is due. For 30 bucks this is a great value in a coffee maker. The one I am replacing is the same model and it was purchased in November 2010. The old one still works and is going to be moved to the shop and we are purchasing a new one of these for the house. Not sure what some of the poor reviews were expecting for thirty dollars, but we got our money's worth and then some with this brewer.

I purchased this coffee maker because my Mr. Coffee started leaking all over the place. Well, needless to say this one just stopped working exactly 60 days after I purchased it. Black & Decker are known for tools, not coffee makers, so I should have known better. Save yourself some frustration and stay away from this one. I spent the extra money and purchased a Cuisinart and now I am a very satisfied coffee drinker.

Although it is an attractive price for a coffee maker and I was initially happy with it. Before this I had a Cuisinart Coffee maker that lasted about 6 yrs that I paid over 100 dollars for. So I decided to go with this in expensive one that did all the things my good one did. Sadly, It only lasted a year. Luckily I had some instant coffee to drink this morning:( So at 30 bucks a coffee maker it is about the same price if not more than the Cuisinart one.

Coffee Maker failed after 3 1/2 months

Our coffee makers get lots of use, 4-5 pots a day. This maker did not have the initial plastic taste and smell that so many of them do. It performed well, while it lasted. It stopped working this evening, light comes on but no brewing and hot plate not getting hot.
Black an Decker products are horrible these days. I remember when the name represented quality.
Thank I'll try an Oster this time.... sigh...

Washed it before using, and ran 1 pot of water thru it. Made a pot of coffee and it tasted like plastic. Tossed the pot out and made another pot. Still tasted like plastic. Cleaned it with vinager, ran 2 pots of clear water thru it. The water smelled like plastic. It was like it was melting the insides. Took it back the next day.

This Black and Decker coffee maker has some attractive features, but has some rather annoying features also. The first thing is the LED display is aweful. When it sits on your counter, you cant read it, any of it. You have to squat down and look at the display directly straight on. The display font is very small and it not back lite. Theres no other indicators if you have the timer set or change brew setting. I have to use a flashlight to see the display. The carafe's fill markings can be confusing, it has two sets of markings and they dont really make sense. The fill level of the tank is hard to read also. The coffee doesnt get up to temperature after brewing till after its been sitting on its heater for awhile. The alarm letting you know the coffee's done goes off too early and it continues to brew for another five to eight minuets after the loud alarm (that you cant turn off) goes off. It says you can remove the carafe while its brewing (sneak a cup) but it still dribbles pretty good while your sneaking that early cup. The price was right for a programmable name brand, the other items are just annoying.

It is a good coffee maker generally speaking, especially the way the basket is engineered. Easy to load and virtually foolproof, different than other types with a swing arm or a tricky basket that pops out of place and gets grounds in the coffee.
Two annoyances are: 1. Unlighted LCD clock. I used the old one as a light for the kitchen and I could pour early morning coffee without turning any lights on. 2. The alarm when the coffee is finished brewing is unnecessary and cannot be muted. It could substitute for a wake up alarm. IMO, it interferes if your spouse sleeps in or if your wake up time varies. I don't like noise in the house, especially when I wake up. You will need to be more precise when programming which lowers the variance and utility. Th old one brewed quietly and with no alarm. I only changed because the basket had a tendency to lift out and make a mess.

Purchased this coffee maker on 12/28/12. I loved the features especially the the little timer that told me how long since brewing. On 3/2/13, I brewed the first pot of the day and it brewed just like always but within 1 1/2 hrs the coffee was tepid at best. When I went to brew a second pot, the on light activated but no brewing. Very disappointed!

What's good about it: It brews a good cup of coffee. A reasonably attractive coffeemaker. Controls are at the top of the unit where they should be. Function buttons are user friendly. A nicely designed carafe. What's bad about it: The water fill window is useless in my kitchen as it is on the wrong side. There should be one window on each side of the unit. Makes an annoying loud beeping when the coffee is ready and when the unit auto shuts off. A good idea to get notified, but this needs to be toned down a bit. This unit also makes other strange sounds on occasion. The clock is difficult to read without a flashlight.

Review 15 for Black & Decker 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker
We have been very pleased with the coffee pot. Due to lack of counter space it was not convenient to be moving the pot back and forth as it drug on the counter. We put rollers on the bottom and it works very nicely. You might want to consider a pot with those attached. Of course it would increase the cost, but one would think only pennies. Thank you.

Bad Smell

I tried for 3 days to get the chemical smell out of this thing. I tried running vinegar through it, and 6 or 7 pots of plain water and it still made the coffee taste and smell like a chemical or plastic. I have an older Black and Decker model I love and I'm very glad I did not throw it out when I bought this new one. My old one has a broken top lid and carafe leaks, but it still makes a great cup of coffee. I took this one back for a refund and I am back to using my old one until I can find something else. Also did not care for the display, the text was to small and there was no light on it to indicate I had the auto brew on.

If you need a temporary coffee pot this is a nice one. It looks good, makes good coffee and in just a few minuets you will have coffee for 5 months. Our has lasted 5 months and two days. So if you don't mind pying $6 a month for a coffee maker this one might be for you! On the plus side we do use it a lot. about 4 to 5 pots a day, so if you only make one pot a day it should last about a week past the guarantee.

For the good part, it looks very nice, brews quietly and quickly. For the bad part, it leaks on the sneak a cup feature and it condensates horribly all over the display. The display is gray and black, you cannot see it. This would be more of an issue that use it for programmable reasons. Over all I like that it is easy to pour water into without making a mess and the filter is easy to change. I wish it had a colored LED readout light and didn't condensate and leak though.
