Very nice bike for this money, just a little heavy (37lbs). Design is awesome, solid frame!!! Just upgraded with new seat and seat post, new RockShox 6.5x2, Avid brake levers, new CST tires 29x2.25, will be upgraded with new brakes and rotors (AVID BB7) and more... It's much cheaper than new bike in specialized store... That's my opinion only...

couldn't stand the soft mushy too much free play in the front shocks needs to be stiffer with less bouncing tried to turn the adjustment nob on top to tighten up but no change just for looks prob with better front shocks this would be a good bike.

Bicycle arrived in two days. Assembly was trivial, attach handle bars and pedals, put wheels on, add air to tires, adjust brakes, everything else was already assembled.
Cannot complain about the bicycle at all, it is as listed. The frame is very nice, the most important part, as everything else is trivial to change out as needed, due to wear or preferences.
The Mongoose XR-Pro 29" is certainly the best purchase for the money. If you are looking for 29" tires, 24 speed, and disk brakes, you will be hard pressed to find a better deal.

There are things to like about this bike and if you are familiar with bikes and can service them this can be a good value. That said anyone who is going to actually ride this bike any real distance can expect to start upgrading from day one.
First the tires. The tires are acceptable as is for dirt riders but this bike will see streets and packed trails. I bought the bike knowing the tires had to be switched out. 29 inch mountain bikes accept 700c tires available in a number of widths. 700c by 47c Continental Touring Plus tires were installed.
Men will discover the supplied seat is a medieval torture device as it has no relief in it. Thankfully good seats start in the 35 dollar range, I like, use and suggest the ARS Classic from Planet Bike.
The handle bar grips were starving model thin and replaced with Ergon GP1-S to support the hands. If you suffer hand numbness I cannot recommend a better product.
The coil over rear shock is a cruel joke, there is no shock. It is a 850 Lb/inch coil that should you actually land it hard enough to compress it (if your that large and ride off a cliff) you can expect it to bounce you skyward quickly. I replaced it with a 550 Lb/inch coil over shock with adjustable damping from Ebay. While your in there use a plastic grease to keep the pivoting smooth.
If the rear springs were too strong, the front setup seems soft in comparison. Your going to want to dial up the spring preload a lot. This will make the road feel stronger and give you more confidence on turns.
Last but not least, no kickstand, seriously? Why would you sell a bike without a kickstand? Worse attaching a kickstand to this frame is almost painful. I'm still figuring it out.
These details aside the bike has good road manners with these changes and upgrades and I can't wait for warm weather to arrive. I plan to take the bike in to fine tune my rough settings and future upgrades will only improve the bike.
Overall the bike is a good choice if you have the skills, tools and time to do the work yourself. That said out of the box it's weaknesses should be a warning to folks who just want to ride.

I used to be athletic when I was younger, but I gained too much weight over the years. I live in an area that the nearest gym is 40 miles away. I tried running but because of my weight I put too much stress on my knees and joints causing myself pain. What I wanted was to get the feeling of a good cardio workout without the stress from the impact I was putting on my body.
I'm no bicycle expert, but had been looking for a bike for a year and a half. I wanted to get an inexpensive bike that incorporated the features like full suspension, aluminum frame, 29" wheel, 24 speed and disc brakes. I couldn't find all these items in a fancy bicycle shop in both Davis, CA or Fresno, CA for less than $550 before taxes.
Growing up as a kid I always thought Mongoose was a good bike so why not give it a try. Delivered to my door it cost $411. I put it together rather simple, but I still took it to a local bicycle shop where they tuned it up for another $45.
It shifts fine and the brakes work well. I'm 5'11" and weigh 275 lbs and this bike has no problem handling my large frame. I'm getting the workout I need without any stress on my legs. I'm very happy with this product and believe it was the right introduction for me into this sport. I look forward to riding an hour everyday where I mix it up on pavement before I hit the dirt roads and go up and down the canal banks where I live.

This bike is an awesome buy... For the money it is comparable to an entry level bike at ur local bike shop... I ride motocross and cross country races on dirtbikes so I'm hard on my bikes and after several hard rides it has held up... However I will be upgrading tires and rear shock to a fox rp23... But great bike for the money and upgradable if parts begin to break...

Walmart will not give me enough time to let me really try this out, so here is what I think so far.... Appears to be a really good value for a full suspenion type 29" Mountain Bike - especially if you refuse to spend $1500 to $2k for a bike. I took it to a bike shop to have it put together - the younger mechanic just rolled his eyes, but the older guy put it together for me and gave me some feed-back. Shock is just average, but seat, brakes and gearing all seem to be better quality than he would have expected. May need wider tires for muddier conditions. It rode great the 5 miles or so that I have riden it so far - 1 week's worth. It did come with 2 left peddles, but the people at Mongoose answered the phone in California and had me the new set overnight. So far great service! My bike may be a one-of-a-kind - the metal emblem on the front was installed up-side down. Hope this is helpful - maybe I'll up-date my review at some point, but if I dont - it means that I am satisfied.

-This bike is awesome to start on! I've ridden Expensive bikes before but could not afford a $1200 BASE price.. It is a solid based bike to make a great bike out of.
-Be sure to go over every inch after you buy it to check for loose parts. Walmart has good deals but the Walmartians who assemble these bikes are not bike techs. If you dont know what to look for just spend an extra 20 bucks or so at a local bike shop and have them do a lookover. Make some friends to ride with too..
-If you are expecting to hop on this bike and get sponsored by Red Bull for downhill freestyle you will be disappointed and probably will get hurt. It is a solid base but the components are what make it cheap (rear shock, forks, derailer, brakes, and pedals).. these parts are not designed for abuse, especially the suspension, but can easily be replaced the more you get into the sport and realize what parts could be improved... For cruisin smooth and semi rough trails at a reasonable speed though, this bike is 150% worth it!
-I cant wait to build it up to my own personal specs with some aftermarket parts!

i wish people had mentioned this in their reviews. THE PEDALS HIT THE FRONT TIRE!!!!. If you like to turn while pedaling DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE. I am shocked that for over $300 they would sell you a bike that does that. I bought this bike online, my mistake. RETURN!!
Oh yeah the front shock works nice.

The fork was backwards.happened to me but then just turn the fork the other way, and worked just fine.

When i received the bike it was in 2 boxes so there was no damage it took about an hour to assemble...it wasn't hard at all. It is a sharp bike and it rides great!!

Why Run?....Ride Instead!

When I ordered the bike, it was not clear how much assembly it would take before you were able to ride the bike. Shipping was as promised and arrived in a double boxed package to protect the bike from any damage. Opening both boxes showed the bike in a compact partially assembled package. It was an easy removal, one piece bundle. On the box, they display the tools needed to assemble the bike which can be found in most any home tool box.
Assembly was very easy and fast. I had the bike assembled in about a half hour taking my time to ensure it was complete. After getting the tires filled with air (they come partially filled), I took it for a quick ride in the driveway. I did not need to make any adjustments to the gears or brakes and decided to go for a longer ride.
I spent about two hours riding the bike, learning the gears and testing the brakes and then hitting the trails. The Mongoose is a great bike and looks great. I will get a gel-filled seat, but the seat that comes with the bike is nice. The duel suspension system made the riding a pleasure and off road more controllable. The disk brakes on the front and rear wheels proved well coming to complete stops quickly and under control.
Overall, a very well built and well worth the price bike.

This is my second bike - first one developed a loud clicking noise while peddling. Local bike shop could not determine the cause and rather than pay the facility to tear it apart I returned it to my local Walmart. Refund was painless and, because I really like the bike - just wanted one sans the click, click, click, I immediately reordered another one right there at the store. Arrived earlier than expected (very nice) and have not had any problems with this one.
I do understand products can sometimes come with minor problems; what matters to me is how 'after the sale' resolutions are handled. I really appreciated the 'no-hassle' policy and would recommend this product and where I purchased it.

Ok, I have reviewed many bikes in the full suspension, front suspension, solid fork, single speed, 21, 24 speeds, and yadayada. I decided to get this one from walmart b/c it seemed like bang for your $ and had decent reviews. Maybe I just had the bad apple in the bunch. The rear disc brake cable came undone, neither brake lever was well tightened, the shifters weren't adjusted properly, and on my third ride the rear tire blew so loud and bad my riding buddy thought someone shot at me (we are cops). the frame seemed pretty darn sturdy, the front "tunable" fork no different whether it was cranked way up or down. rear shock is just a big spring with a threaded washer compressing it. like i said, maybe just a bad apple, but Walmart took it back with no questions asked a refunded my money quickly. wish the bike was as nice as their customer service.

This is an awesome bike and already have had expert bike folks admire the style and construction. I feel like I made the correct decision - and I'm not an expert bike dude - so that really makes the deal seem worthwhile to me. This is a great bike for the money. Get ready to pay an additional charge for the bike being put together and tuned correctly. Once my bike was put together, I couldn't change gears or stop the bike. Most of the people putting the bikes together, don't experience the adjustment and tuning the bike needs. My suggestion is take to a bike shop. It cost me $85.00

Looking for a mountain bike that is affordable yet offers the durability and options I wanted was proving to be difficult.
As an intermediate level rider, I was preparing to spend anywhere between 800-2500 dollars for a quality bike at one of my local bike shops.
Right before I was going to make a purchase I stumbled upon the XR Pro on the website, and the reviews were so good, I decided to buy one. Had to drive 45 minutes past numerous Wal-Mart stores to find one that carried it, and it was still in the box.
As an intermediate level rider, I was preparing to spend anywhere between 800-2500 dollars for a quality bike at one of my local bike shops.
Right before I was going to make a purchase I stumbled upon the XR Pro on the website, and the reviews were so good, I decided to buy one. Had to drive 45 minutes past numerous Wal-Mart stores to find one that carried it, and it was still in the box.
This bike is very well equipped for the price. SRAM trigger shifters and deraileurs are usually found on pricier bikes, and they work well. The SR Suntour front fork is much better than the forks you typically find on low end bikes; however the preload adjustments are very difficult to use, and I could not really determine if my adjustments were making any difference. On my first ride the rear coil suspension device starting squeaking. I have noticed this issue on other bikes with similar shocks. However, I am not sure if it is the shock mechanism itself, or the polyurethane bushings they use to mount the shock to the frame.
The dual disc brakes worked well and stopped fast.

The overall look of the bike is very aggressive and stylish.
Right out of the box I took this bike to a challenging trail for a 10 mile ride full of large rocks and difficult terrain. I am really impressed with how this bike handled, especially with the 29" wheels.
This is a great bike for those who are serious about mountain biking but don't want to shell out a ton of cash. The great part is that the parts can be upgraded, and most local shops would be glad to help you when you are ready upgrade (parts or bike).

It was a fairly nice bike but it didn't come with a kickstand, it was a $406.00 bike w/ tax and it didin't come with a kickstand. The 29" Ledger by the same company had a very nice welded on kickstand even. Walmart was very good about returning it. I wish they would have ordered it in but I had to order it in before i could even see it. I ended up getting a nice 80's schwinn 26" that I like better. It's from when they were still made in American, the goose is made in China.

The gears change very well every time, the brakes are great but they did need adjustment. That took about 5 minutes. 2-3' foot drops are no problem. This bike does very well on the bike trails in my area. Money well spent.
