I was excited to get this TV, as I thought Philips had been a decent brand, and there had been quite a few good reviews online. However, I was shocked to find that the TV won't power up at all OUT-OF-BOX!. When I plugged in the power cord, the only thing occurred was some clicking sound, after which the TV stood still, no sound nor any signal or LED light. This is the first time I ever encountered a TV dead out-of-box. Even those cheap-brand TVs had been able to at least work for a while before they died. What a shame! I would avoid Philips products from now on.

I am a big Xbox 360 gamer and with this tv being 1080p Hd it made the games come thru more clear than ever. I could not have asked for a better tv for the price and quality. Took a while to get to the store with site to store so I was a little angry about that. All and all if you want a good tv and aren't worried about turning the sound up to 26 when watching Doctor Who then this is the tv for you.

I bought this TV to replace another brand that had many on-going problems (Vizio). I was impressed with the color and especially the sound - compared to my old TV. The sound was clear and stayed the same - not blaring loud during commercials or with music in the background. I trust the Philips brand. I had to call tech support a couple of times while hooking it up (my issues - not the TV!) and both times they answered quickly and were very helpful. I would definitely recommend this TV!

I bought this model because I have 2 other Philips lcd tv's. I also work for Philips. This tv is a piece of junk. The picture quality is terrible. I played with the picture settings for two days but could not get the picture quality to match my other tv's, that are 5 years older. The fleshtones are way off. Faces appear washed out, like the the picture is too bright. A close-up of someones face has a reddish tint on one side and a greenish tint on the other. This looks like a cheap no name tv, that Philips has slapped their name on. I couldn't stand looking at this tv, so it went back in the box and back to Walmart. I'm glad I bought this at Walmart, made returning it so much simpler. I bought a Sanyo, that I am much happier with. I saved a couple of bucks and got a slightly larger tv with much better picture quality. An added bonus is, that it is assembled in Mexico, that's almost the US.

And it is still working like new! Excellent picture and color even when watching from the sides. It may not be as excellent as other higher end models but its great for this 60Hz class of LCD tvs. I don't know what your talking about.

I am a big fan of Philips brand appliances and this television has not disappointed! It has a GREAT picture for being just 60Hz, far away scenes can appear a tad grainy at times but close ups are extremely CLEAR, true 1080p HD quality and the overall picture quality in general is top notch! The picture quality is even great if your watching tv from the side! This tv also shines when watching blu-ray movies from it with the 3 HDMI outlets it has. If you are a budget minded person like me and ditched cable for netflix, you will also enjoy decent (free) digital tv if you add a 10.00 Philips rabbit ears antenna (also available at Walmart) when you use the auto programming option. The sound is good and loud for me, I usually have it no higher the 35 out of 100 which is fairly loud. I don't know why people need to have such loud volume? Of course I live in a tiny apartment by myself so maybe that's why I don't need it too loud lol. This tv is also an Energy Star rated appliance in case your wondering too. Like I said this tv is still good as new and it's going on 2 years and I am very satisfied and haven't had any problems what so ever with it!

To get a quality 40" TV for this price is hard - we've been looking for a while. This may not have the absolute best picture out there, but we watch a lot of TV and rent movies often and so far I have no fault with it. I'd recommend it to others. The speakers are pretty decent & it looks nice .

Philips is a good brand and if the TV sells for the right price, I say get it. This TV has a great set of speakers imbedded in it, so you don't get the flat sound you usually get from flat screens. It makes the TV a little larger, but well work not having to spend extra money on a sound bar. The colors are crisp and clean, I think picture quality is great, so long as you are using HDMI connections.

This TV is lightweight, has a great picture for a good price. We use this TV on top of a dresser in our bedroom and watch HD content almost every night. We replaced a Sceptre TV (demoted to game duty in the basement). The quality of the Philips product justifies the premium over the Sceptre.

Had A Philips 19" in bedroom and works great, so I bought this 40" for the living room to replace a 32" LG, but after hooking it up the TV would not acknowledge the antenna or any of the components (DVD, DVR, home theater). Was a good deal at $379 but I had to return it.

I got this TV on sale to replace my old TV that was broken. It was a great purchase. Getting a $550 TV for $380 was a great buy. The colors are crisp and the pictures are sharp. I've owned it for over 3 months now and have no complaints other than location of speakers.
On this TV, the speakers are on the bottom panel pointed straight down at the floor, rather than forward toward you like with most TVs. Where this TV is located, the sound travels into the next room more easily than the old TV did. This results in having to keep the volume turned down a bit below normal levels, but it's something I can deal with.
The side inputs are also nice on this TV. I have some electronics off to the left side of the TV, that required stretching a 3 foot HDMI cable almost taut to reach in the back input on my old TV. That's no longer a problem on this TV.
This is a great TV, and with it on sale when I bought it (and still on sale at the time of this review), it is a great deal if you're looking to buy a new one. A 40" TV that retails for $550, getting it for $380 is the first thing that got me interested in this TV. From that point on, the other TVs that I was looking at and considering didn't stack up in side-by-side comparison and this was the one for me.
