I started with real goldfish for a couple of weeks and just not good at keeping live animals. Decided to put in the "swimming toys" and to my surprise it worked out really nice for me, never need to worry about feeding too much or too little, and don't need to go through the hassle of changing the water periodically (I guess I am a lazy person). I recommend this item for everyone.

NEVER put goldfish in a bowl, unless you want to change ALL of the water EVERY DAY. Even if you DID do that, it's not healthy to the fish. People are so ignorant with goldfish. They need more than DOUBLE the space a tropical fish needs. You cannot keep them in a bowl. They need a large tank with filtration. DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING ANY LIVE ANIMAL! How hard is that?
