For more counter and storage space, the Mainstays Kitchen Island is the perfect solution. Whether you want to chop vegetables or keep all your kitchen accessories at your reach, this kitchen island comes handy. You can conveniently slice bread or cut vegetables on the butcher-block top of this white kitchen island. The butcher-block top has a drop leaf panel that lets you maximize or reduce the work surface as per your convenience. You can even hang your hand towels in the included hanger. This portable island features several concealed storage compartments to help you store the things you need in your kitchen. Casters in this island allow you to easily move the cart all around your home. Easy to assemble, this butcher block top kitchen island in white adds style to any kitchen decor.
The cart went together easily and looks good except for the top which looked better after we applied three coats of polyurethane varnish. It is heavy, about 50 lbs, something to keep in mind if you plan to transport it. Good product for the money.

Review 2 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Multiple Finishes
Kitchen islands or cart are really expensive. This was by far the cheapest one I could find that had everything I wanted, so I knew the quality wouldn't be the best. It went together fairly easily in about an hour (while watching TV). The doors are not flush with each other which is probably my biggest issue, but not worth sending back (most people wouldn't even notice unless I pointed it out, but one door sits in a half inch deeper than the other when closed). One of them is just warped. Also, the bottom for the drawer wasn't cut right so there is a small gap, but nothing serious. That being said, I am happy with the purchase. I may not use this cart for more than a year, so I didn't want to spend $400 on one. All of my pots and pans and lids fit inside and the drawer is large enough for my silverware and a few other things. I don't think the top will last long if exposed to water regularly as it doesn't appear to be treated with anything, but it will serve my purposes. If you are looking for something you will use for 5 years, go with higher quality... If it’s a short term thing, this will work just fine.

Review 3 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Multiple Finishes
I bought this to use as a microwave cart instead of an island like most people. Its very sturdy easy to put together did it by myself in about 30 minutes. The drawer works great for my extra kitchen utensils and the cabinet is really spacious and the shelf makes it even better. The top is real wood so if you wanted to used it as an island it would be really nice. The extra fold out top is an extra bonus I wasn't really looking for but it makes a great spot to put dishes waiting to into the microwave or spot to stir something in between cooking it. All in all this cart is a great buy and the price is nice too!!

Review 4 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Multiple Finishes
I live in an older apartment and space is at a premium. My counter tops were being over run with no place to put things. This did the trick. Plus it's a handy work area for the kitchen and other places. A little tedious to assemble. But take your time it's worth it.

With super easy instruction manual that even a child could follow, putting together the cart was a piece of cake. It looks great and you can't find a better product for that price.

Real wood cutting top!

Yes, the butcher block top is real wood! Who would have thought that a $120 +/- item would have a real butcher block top. (Don't forget to maintain the wood like a cutting board.)
Yes, the construction could have been better, but then the price would have gone up. It serves its purpose of a kitchen island cart. It looks really nice. It is sturdy. It is well worth the price and then some.
I did my due diligence and looked at the other value/discount stores and at the big hardware stores for similar items. There was nothing below $179, and this was precisely what I was looking for.

Review 7 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Multiple Finishes
I read the good and bad reviews for this product and, based on what I saw, I believe the company has responded to many of the complaints. The middle shelf is quite sturdy and thick. You still need to be mindful of the weight limits that the product clearly has stated on all its literature and stickers that are adhered to the product, but it works great for what it is. I use it for extra counter and storage space: serving appetizers on it works well because I can move it away from my prep area and keep my kitchen counters clear for the dinner and drink items. I store lighter-weight entertaining supplies and linens on the middle shelf. The bottom is sturdy enough to store the single-serving soda bottles that I keep on-hand, so that frees-up my cabinet and china closet space for food, plates, and heavy glass serving dishes. I've had it for several months now and find it to be a great value and perfect for my use. Plus, this is one of the few carts that came in an oak finish to match my kitchen. I ordered extra cabinet pulls when we remodeled the kitchen, and I was lucky that they were the same size as the pulls on the cart - so I switched them out to have it match even more.

Review 8 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Multiple Finishes
This little cart is perfect for my kitchen. I assembled it myself. It took more time to assemble than the stated time of 30 minutes in the directions. I was not in a big hurry, so I assembled while watching a "chic flick.". I had to turn the butcher block piece which folds down 180 degrees and realign hardware on the bottom of it to ensure a flush fit when the piece lies flat with the base. For the money, it is a good value-wood-not particle board.

Review 13 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Multiple Finishes
The cart meets the great look of our new remodeled kitchen and will function as desired. Looks exactly as pictured when assembled.
It was a chore to put together. There are two sets of directions one in English and another in Spanish. Took a bit of time to decipher some of the parts and their connectors. Be very careful not to lose or misplace some of the very small fasteners and connectors.
A little disappointing is that the locking fastening system is not as sturdy for a cart designed to roll on casters. Cart does shift a little bit when moved on the casters, especially when the cabinet is holding items in storage.
The big disappointment is the magnetic door closures. They do not catch, due inadequate construction of the plastic magnet holder and the doors fly open just bumping the cart. Will have to look at figuring out a way to rig the doors with better magnets.
If you are on a budget and want a good look then this cart fits the bill, but if if you want a higher quality sturdy cart - then this one may not satisfy.

When I first got this I was immediately disappointed in it. It was easy to put together and that was the end of the positive aspect of this product. After we had broken down and thrown away the box we started to put it together, we bought the wood finish one and it looks more pinkish with a very drab finish than I had expected, after attaching the doors we discovered that no matter what we did there was a very noticeable gap between the doors. The top piece could only be kindly described as "unfinished", I took care of that by applying a seal myself (Should never have had to do that). I just started to ignore the gap in the doors, but recently after just a few months of owning this cart, the drawer is now almost impossible to open because the grove on the drawer that was meant as a track constantly slips off the wood.

Review 19 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Multiple Finishes
Even though the instructions tell you it takes approximately 30 minutes to assemble, given some of the quality of the parts (e.g., caps to hide screw heads were not cut clean), it took closer to 2 hours. Some damaged parts, but not so obvious so we decided to go ahead and assemble instead of returning and ordering another. Once assembled, also noted the drop leaf is warped, but since we don't plan to use the leaf, decided to let it go, too.
My question to Walmart and/or maker of the cart, why the warning that electrical appliances should not be placed on the unit is not known until reading the inside instructions? I do not recall seeing this statement in the details section for the item advertised on line. And, why can't I place and electrical appliances on the unit?
I'd also like to make a suggestion not to use that gummy warning label on the leaf. It was a real pain trying to get the goo off of the leaf. There's got to be a better way to warn the consumer.
As far as recommending or not recommending the item, that's a wait and see question.
