Exceeded expectations...

So, how does one select a flat Screen TV? You have to do lots of research, read lots of reviews, and hope for the best. We are very satisfied with our choice. Some reviewers were critical of the sound quality, but I can find no faults with the sound. I did find it strange that there was NO paperwork inside the box including an instruction sheet or set-up guide, nothing. It was poke and hope and I emailed Vizio about it and they provided the link for the manual in their reply. Customer service was fast and complete. I had read that you had to plug the HDMI connection into the #2 slot, but of course I ignored that and hooked it up to the #1. I was able to change it without removing the TV, but be advised that if you have a cable service (like Comcast) you need to use the #2 slot. I bought my wall mount for the TV from Walmart. It was a third of the price of others I had seen in places like Best Buy, but it really did the job. No complaints with that item either. We were able to install the TV and wall mount ourselves but I can see where it may be more than many can handle unless you familiar with DIY projects.

This is my 2nd Vizio TV. I read all the reviews & knew the sound was average at best, but figured I could adjust it good enough. I had the TV for about 10 days & adjusted it over & over & over. The picture on the TV is fine, not the best, but pretty good. The sound is a joke, Ive never heard anything so cheap in my life. It sounds like its in a can or muffled at ALL possible adjustments. How anyone could put out a product with such poor quality is just a joke. The TV is being returned. If you are not deaf, dont buy this TV.

Here are the pros:
1) 42" screen
2) Energy effecient (approx. 110 watts)
3) Above average sound
Here are the cons:
1) Fuzzy pic even on HD signal no matter how I adjusted it
2) Buttons on remote felt flimsy
3) Base mounted onto tv with a *single screw
4) Noticable motion blur
5) Colors were "flat" no matter how I adjusted it
6) NO way to change pic aspect ratio on remote
I returned it, BUT still bought from walmart... I bought the Haier 42" LED tv off walmart.com while it was still $379.98 & love it!

TV easy to assemble and connect to cable

We bought this larger screen VIZIO after an earlier purchase of a smaller VIZIO from Sears about two years ago. This larger TV purchased from Walmart was less expensive than the smaller TV. The picture is not as clear as I would like, but the men in the house say it is great.

Bought this TV in 2009. Everything works great and looks great to this day. With all the new features now in 2012 this TV leaves a little something to be desired. Buying a Vizio was a little nerve wrecking cause the brand did not really have a reputation being a relatively new name brand back in 2009. I am glad I did buy Vizio! Looking to upgrade soon and Vizio is top on my list!

We bought this 42 inch vizio over 5 years ago when it cost almost a grand. I love it .Never ever had any issues. I want a 55 inch vizio but the wife said this one has to give up the ghost first. I truly believe its gonna be a long wait. I believe in brand loyalty and vizio gets my thumbs up. Perfect TV for people with smaller homes or apartment.

This product far exceeded my expectations. For the money, the quality is exceptional. There are 2 drawbacks however. 1- A Fios remote cannot be used without the TV remote being used for volume control. 2- In the product info, the response rate is listed at 100,00 to 1. However, it is only 50,000 to 1. Yet even so, this is a worthwhile product to purchase.

Like many other people who have posted reviews the TV worked fine for awhile (in my case 2 months) but now will not turn on. It's crazy that even though a TV obviously has a reaccuring issue the manufacturer continues to sell it. This just happened yesterday so at this point I'm not still not sure if I can have it replaced or fixed. It's so frustrating!!

Ive had my Vizio 42" inch for about close to a month and all I have connected to mine is Cable TV no games and computers and all that I think sometimes those things burn your tv out a tad bit faster...my personnal opion...but this tv is extremely nice and its big perfect for a living room or entertainment room. The picture quality is excellent once you adjust it to your specifications. Its big and bold and makes its own statement and if you have hi definition it really shows nice. I would highly recommend this tv so much. Vizio TV"s have seem to become better and beteer from when they first came out they have definitely improved on thier quality of televisions. So who knows maybe next year if the price is right like this one I'll get a 50" inch...well see..But so far this tv is EXCELLENT!!!

My first 42 inch TV

I had previously owned Sharp TV's that were a bit smaller but I have to say that I was very impressed with this set. The picture is great and can be altered pretty easily for sports or movies or games if you have a gaming console attached. Unlike many larger TV's the built in speakers were actually pretty good for the size of the TV. I have mine attached to a surround system but I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't have it that way. I haven't experienced any lagging with the picture and games through my Xbox 360 are stunning on it. Oh, the sound quality is better using the optical port than the RCA if you're piping it through a surround sound system. It might depend on your system too but I did see a difference in mine for the better using the optical cable. I am very satisfied with this set thus far.

Buy the warranty

After 13 months, my Vizio TV has started to turn itself on and off. Vizio will NOT back their product, even though it's 1 month out of warranty...make sure you buy the extended warranty if you buy Vizio products. I have found numerous similar complaints online...

Inaccurate description

We purchased this (Model E421VO) Sunday (1/22/2012). Set up was difficult and could not adjust the picture. The picture was not full screen, but was unable to adjust it to full screen. After a few hours of struggle, called Vizio's technical support. He was not much help, and after about half an hour's efforts he told me that I will have to apply for repairs under warranty. Their e-mail indicated that I will have to provide them with a picture of the tv, copy of receipt by uploading to their web-site. I also noted that the description describes Response Time to be 5 ms, but the instructions that came with the tv says that the Response Time is 8 ms (too slow). I am returning it tomorrow

My 32" Magnovox died that I purchased Aug 2007, I wanted 1080 40" TV but @ Walmart it was out of stock so I purchased the 42" I'm glad I did, this is an excellent TV and is energy use is $17 @ year for 5 hours a day, it shuts off completely, the picture and sound has very good quality, I did buy the extended warranty from Square-trade that was recommended from Vizio's website, (about a week after I bought this TV) I generally don't buy extended warranties but this TV is big and if something would happen I don't want to lug it around, the price was reasonable less than $20 a year.

Beautiful Picture!!!

I had initially purchased a 42 in LCD Sanyo for $398 and was disappointed with the picture: I had to mess around with the contrast and brightness and whatever and that got tiresome pretty quick. I too did alot of research, so one day. I was speaking with an associate at Walmart and he suggested the Visio because of the sound quality and contrast which was 100,000 to 1, the Sanyo was 4,000 to 1. Boy what a difference!!!
I don't have HD with my cable set up, but the digital channels show a brilliant, beautiful picture. In the menu, I can decide what kind of picture I want, i.e. movie, game, basketball, vivid, etc. It features tru surround and sounds wonderful, it can get very, very loud! (because you know i had to turn it up loud to test it, not to just annoy my noisy neighbors, LOL).
YouTube, Netflix, all of that shows well on this tv. My DVD's look great as well as my still pics which i view through my computer. I am thrilled that this set has VGA, but I will be purchasing a smaller tv to use as a monitor, because the tv is "large" and somewhat overwhelming when youa re viewing Microsoft Office. . Love it, love it, love it.
True I purchased it in the middle of January, but my sister has had her for over 3 years and no problems and they watch it everynight, so perhaps I will have the same luck! I never buy warranties: my VCR, remember those?) lasted almost 19 years, the CD player and Kenwood Stereo bought around the same time is still running, (crossing fingers). Clapping hands, applauding for this really cool tv.

A pretty good TV for the money

Pros: TV setup was very easy. TV is relatively basic, but the overall quality is good for the price. This makes a good set for kids and game playing. The main thing I usually look for is picture quality and responsiveness. The Vizio is adequate on both fronts.
Cons: Online Walmart specs were incorrect on number of HDMI ports (there are 2, not 3). Luckily, I knew this going in and don't expect to ask the TV to connect to a lot of equipment. In addition, the Walmart online specs were incorrect on response time (8ms, not 5ms). This could have been a big disappointment, but I'm not paying a lot of attention to it as the TV is primarily for child usage. I have not noticed during casual play/watching.
The price outweighed the spec mistakes. I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Great quality for the price

Easy to set up myself. At first the picture quality wasn't that great, so I called Vizio customer service and they let me know my DVR needed to be reprogrammed (from my old standard TV), so I called my satellite company tech help who talked me through the process and voila! The picture was instantly beautiful. I had taped the Pasadena Rose Parade to watch in HD--wow, it was like being there on the front row. The detail was phenomenal. So far, so good. Don't know how long it will last or if problems will pop up, but we're off to an excellent start. I'm very happy with my purchase!
P.S. I ordered this for ship to home and it was delivered via Fedex a day earlier than the stated time frame. Sadly, someone stole it from my front porch as I was gone all day. However, Walmart replaced my Vizio at no additional charge. Kudos to Walmart. I recommend tracking carefully to be sure you will be home!

Bought this tv today hooked it up and have watched blu rays and hd sattelite the picture quality is great very clear looks like the people are right in the room with you also great sound had a vizio 32 inch but decided to upgrade to a 42 so glad I bought this one vizios are great tvs I don't see any difference between them and brand name tvs also great price for a 42 inch 1080p
