Review 1 for Kingsford 784 sq inch Charcoal Grill, Black
We love the grill with the exception that the lid does not align therefore heat escapes! Item is too big to take back to store to return...we are stuck with a bad constructed product.

Great grill for the price

Very good grill for the price, easy assembly, just follow the directions. A little tip, don't fully tighten all screws until fully assembled, this will help you keep the grill square therefor ensuring that the lid and all components line up properly. Make sure to season the grill, takes a couple hours but is worth it. Easy to maintain/manipulate heat due to the vents and the adjustable charcoal pan. Worth a hundred bucks all day long, would buy again without a doubt.

I put this grill together buy myself in two hours and season the grill with veg oil. I have cooked direct and indirect with good results. I add wet wood chips to the charcoal for flavor. This is a great grill for the money. I may buy another to give my son for christmas.

I love this grill! I especially love the adjustable rack where the coals are placed because it allows me to control the distance between the coal and the food which allows me to control the heat.

I bought this grill over the summer of 2012, I have used it quite a few times and I love it, it has all the features I like having it a grill, it's great having a temp gauge on the hood and it maintains heat well, I got it up to 500 degrees on day with just ashed over coals and another great feature is when you light the coals you can lower the grate all the way down to the ashtray, closed the lid and with the vents open you can still maintain the flames, great for days that have some wind. I have nothing but good things to say about this grill, great purchase, I recommend it.

Love It

I'm one of those who likes to BBQ year round (weather permitting) and wore down my old BBQ after 8 years of continuous use. This model got my attention when I saw that it had a crank to raise and lower the charcoal tray to various levels. My last grill had 3 levels of hooks which I found to be annoying when I wanted to change the level in the middle of cooking. I also liked the upper level warming surface that I plan to use to heat up the buns and cook my hot dogs on since I sometime tend to burn the dogs while cooking alongside the burgers. I used the warmer for the first time and the dogs came out perfect for me. As far as the cooking area is concerned, I generally cook for 5 so the main area (527 sq inches) is perfect for me, plus the warmer area (257 sq Inches) just adds some extra space for guests. The main grill comes in 3 sections, so I can fit them in my dishwasher if I want to. The unit also has 2 dropdown side shelves (one with hooks for 4 utensils) which is good for me so I don't need such a wide cover. Another plus, is the use of cotter or hair pins to hold the 2 large wheels onto the axle. My last grill had cap lockes that constantly popped. Also the unit comes with 2 swivle wheels that lock which make it easier for me to move around. My last grill had 2 wheels, so I had to pick up one end to move it around. I like to move my grill around to avoid winds. The only complaint I have is when I put the unit together (took me about an hour and a half) ,the nuts and bolts used for the circular side vents did not work with each other. It was as if the threads were different. I ended up forcing the bolt into the nut and ended up stripping the head of the bolt. So far I cooked on the unit 2 times, once to grill chicken legs, and the once to grill burgers and dogs, and I'm loving my new grill already. I'm giving this grill an excellent value since I got lucky and caught this on sale for $99.00 this past weekend.
Happy Grilling to all!

UPSET!!!!!!

I understand a thing called human error but I read over 20 comments before purchasing this grill and no one mention the fact that they don't give you enough screws. They only give you 25 of the mechanic screw but as you go through each step you end up needing 29 screws. Not a fault of Walmart but definitely Kingsford/Charbroil's. I am having a cookout next week and needed a bigger grill to speed up my cooking time. I spoke to a supervisor at Charbroil and they said they will expedite the missing screws. I hope they get here by Wednesday so that I am not stuck cooking tons of chicken on a small grill. I never had any problems with Weber. I think I will stick with them in the future.

Assembly tips:
Assemble on level concrete. The base box isn't strong enough to resist wracking and twisting and you'll have a lid that won't seat right.
Don't trust the labels on the legs as to which is right/left front/back. Mine were labeled left/front, left/front, right/front right/front. Had to undo the carriage assembly and put the legs back in the proper corners.
Pop down to your home improvement center and buy 1 foot of 3" double-wall chimney pipe, plus 1 45/60 degree angle piece to extend the chimney on this. It will improve the draw and assist in getting your coals hot, even in a moderate wind. Remove the flat baffle off the chimney and just slide your new extensions over the existing short stack.
The thermometer was off 30 degrees but I adjusted it. Wasn't easy. Had to pry the back pins open, slide off the front cowling and lens, then support the thing in boiling water. Rotated the black facing to read 212 and put everything back. It's within 5 degrees of another, more accurate but portable thermometer I have, so I've no complaints about it. Probably not a job most people would want to do, though. But unless you want another 30 bucks on a more easily calibrated one, live with the offset or fix the one that comes with the grill.
I got 10 feet of felt gasket from barbqueuegaskets dot com and sealed the lid/base surfaces. That also helps a great deal in moderate wind as air doesn't flow in and out of the grill from unwanted places. If you do this, buy the high-temp stuff or yor gasket will burn/melt.
Season the inside walls and surfaces per instructions. Do it. Buy the cheapest 20lb bag of briquettes and fire that puppy up after oiling it. Just follow instructions. Season the cast iron grills, too, on a regular basis. This grill takes and holds a good seasoning that will ward off rust in the future.
Bottom line:
This is not a 900 dollar grill, so there are trade offs and shortcomings. A little tinkering can turn it into a quality cooking tool, if you're the handyman sort. Lots of grilling space, about right for a meal for 2-8. Temp is easy to control (with the adjustments I made). Just don't plan on rolling it out onto the lawn--it needs to stay on a flat surface to keep the base from wracking and opening huge gaps between the base and lid. Otherwise, I think it's great!

"Kingsford makes charcoal, not grills!" is what I was told by a relative regarding the quality of this product. I haven't finished assembling it because when I finally got someone to take it out of the box and assemble it, turns out the top/lid has a rusted, damaged corner, so I'm going to return it. I don't think it's terrible, but there surely are better ones out there. Trouble is, apparently every one now makes gas grills, so good, big charcoal ones are hard to find....I might just exchange it and keep the Kingsford due to a lack of choices...I'll see.

just bought this grill yesterday, assembly was simple and all parts were there. It did have one damaged part, base pan but that was an easy fix with nylon pliers. Great design and plenty of room for cooking multiple items. I plan to smoke chicken breast today on it with vegetables. Happy with this purchase. Takes about 30 minutes to assemble. Worth the time!

Excellent Grill

The grill is excellent, and the assembly was fast, however the shortfall is in the packing and shipping of the item. By the time one gets the grill home using care, when one starts assembling it one finds all the dents, and careless handling makes on the new shinny grill. It is not worth taking back for replacement as it is a lot of work putting it together. The Grill itself is 2nd to none.
