Trash can is just the right size for my small kitchen. Although listed as 18.5 gallons total, it seems to hold just as much refuse as two separate 10 gallon containers. The auto open/close feature works flawlessly. The only problem with the appearance is the stickers indicating "recycle" and "trash" were not placed accurately. Their uneven placement makes me crazy. I can not speak to this item's durability. I have owned it for only a month or so. Potential problems could arise with the plastic construction of the bottom of the unit and the rings that hold the trash bags in place. I dropped a wine bottle into the recycle side of the unit and it bounced off the bottom reminding me to place items more delicately. The plastic rings seem rather lightly constructed. Time will tell.

This dual trash / recycle can is just what we needed. it has plenty of room to use 2 standard tall kitchen trash bags, and they are easy to change out and secure.
I have only had the unit for a month so I can't really comment on battery life or durability, but we are off to a good start.

Absolutely love this -- a much better deal than the Simple Human alternatives! Very happy with it so far. The stickers are a little big, but I wouldn't know where to put my trash/ recycling without them, so I guess I'm good with them too. They are removable if u want to remove them!

I originally viewed this product online, however, purchased a different one from a different site online. When I received the product, I was really disappointed. First of all, it was dented. Furthermore, the quality of the product was mediocre at best and when really looking at the features, I realized what I believed would be the best for me. I am very happy with this, which works perfect for me. I recycle a lot and this lets me do so without a lot of clutter and is very nice looking to top it off.

I have looked for a long time for a new kitchen garbage can that was bigger then 13 gal.
This is great we removed the divider and can now use a 30 gal bag and not have to empty so often.
The auto open close feature works really well and the can is very attractive, we easily removed the stickers on the front.
Definitely worth the price.

Really works well to help our family recycle. Attractive enough to have visable and surprisingly
holds more than expected. Durability and appearance only got a "good"rating because like some other reviews, the can arrived with a small dent (too much trouble to check in store before I brought it home) but not noticable enough to return. As far as the reviews that had trouble with the lid unintentially opening by merely walking by it;I might lean towards the opposite. Sometimes it
takes waving in front of the sensor to get it to open, but really a non-issue. Definitely a great buy and highly recommended!

We had a very hard time getting the battery compartment opened. Other than that we really love the look and it functionality.
According to the directions it says you can hide the overhang of the bag, but that really doesn't happen. You have to hang the bag out a little bit to make sure it doesn't fall in.
Sensor works great!

Very stylish and it goes great with our stainless steel appliances. But more importantly no more unsightly recycling bins nor bags inside the house. Product is kids friendly and our 4 year old feels like a big girl sine she gets to recycle or put trash in it.

I absolutely love this trash can! I bought this one to replace two individual motion sensor cans that I had bought 5 years ago (I used one of them for trash and the other one for recycling). My old cans no longer looked the best, were a pain when changing out the trash bags due to their heavy lids, and both of the lids had stopped working (due to the hinges breaking), so I was not interested in replacing those cans with the exact same ones. What drew me to this Nine Stars can is that it contains the trash and recycling bins in one unit. I also liked the way it looked. After receiving it, I am more than happy with my purchase. Each bin is very roomy, and changing the trash bags is a breeze (so breezy that I no longer dread changing them out and no longer nag my husband to do it). It is so much easier to change than my old cans and way less disgusting and dirty. The lid on this is very light - just turn the switch to off so the motion sensor is off, pull off the lid, and easily change your bags. No trash mess on your hands at all. I use standard kitchen-sized trash bags and the standard Glad recycling bags in mine. It also looks fantastic sitting out in your kitchen and doesn't take up too much space! Also - just a note that the trash and recycling indicators on the front are stickers - when I ordered this I thought they were painted on or something, but they are in fact stickers. I have left mine on for now (because sometimes I have dumb guests who don't know which side to use, ha!), but you could remove them if you wanted to!

I've only been using it for 2 weeks, but so far so good. The sensitivity is just right. It doesn't activate when walked by, but always activates with a brief hand wave. Placing the bag is easy once you do it a couple times. I find myself looking for trash to throw in it. The stickers on the front are a little cheezy. Removable magnets would be much nicer.

Love the design and size, however even as well packaged as it was I found a couple good size dents upon delivery. Was able to pretty much push them out, but one was still slightly visible.

Great garbage can; it eliminates the need for 2 trash bins in my kitchen. I love the senor on the lid - you can turn it off if you'd like. It is a wee bit sensitive when I get right by it but I still love my new unit. The only thing I would add is an optional plug-in cord.

I love the appearance and the size is great too. I purchased it because I wanted to make sure there was enough capacity, and there definitely is. I had planned on removing the stickers, but they help the kids and guests put stuff in the right place, so for now, they will stay. I was hoping they were easily removable b/c I think it would look nicer if they were on the lid or inside of the lid - I had planned on moving them, but I couldn't remove them without destroying them.
The motion sensor is a joke, it works when you don't want it to and doesn't when you do. I basically have to press the button any time I want it to open. I would prefer it be a foot pedal to open so I didn't have to touch it with my hands.
For the cost though, I can complain too much. It is a great value.

I read the previous reviews and wish to say thank you. You all helped me make a wise decision. Although I would not normally pay this much for a trash can, I am very pleased with it. Even with the divided bins, this trash can holds a lot of trash. Love that the lid closes automatically. The only downfall, if I have to say, is the lid opens sometimes when you pass by too close. But hey, if that's the only downfall, I can live with that. I do wish the recycle side had a pull-out bin. As it is now, I have to line it with a trash bag and then throw the trash bag away once I empty my recyclables at the street for pickup.

This garbage can is perfection. It houses both regular garbage and recycles. It has a very sleek design and the motion sensor works only when a hand is waved over the sensor. Similar products at Lowe's is uneccesarily more costly. My family loves it.
