Died just over a year

We bought this just before Christmas of 2011. It has worked great until just now. Great sound and great price. However, this morning it just died. We tried unplugging it and it will turn on for just a couple of minutes before it turns back off again. After reading some of these reviews, it sounds like this is a common problem. I am disappointed because our warranty just expired 2 months ago! GRRRR!

When it works it's good....and then it doesn't

I've had it for a little over a year and while it has great sound quality it doesn't work all the time. Most of the times I turn it on and the TV I get "check signal cable" I try to unplug and replug in everything and then sometimes it works lately it has gotten to the point where I have to unplug it from the electrical outlet and then back in then say a prayer and turn it on. I don't know what happened and when but I wouldn't recommend that anyone purchase this products. Not very good value for my $.

Great product, but too much Bass.

The subwoofer is a great feature but the controls do not take it all the way down to zero, which results in too much bass even at its lowest setting. Otherwise, this is exactly what I was looking for...a relatively inexpensive way to get surround sound for all of my components in a small room.

I fell in love with it right away. It sounded excellent and especially for the price $120. But the thing only lasted about 2 weeks before it started making a loud fan noise coming from inside the soundbar. I called PHILIPS and adviced me to disconnect the unit for a few minutes and connect it back. Didn't work .. and its now a month later and the thing wont even turn on any more. But I calles oPHILIPS and they were nice and are going to buy the thing back from me in full( dont believe me? Check PHILIPS website and youll find similar complaints in their reviews)

Nice Thought, Low Quality

The system sounds great...sometimes. When I received and installed it, it seemed to take a while for it to warm up and the sound modes wouldn't change. Now after a few weeks, a fan in the subwoofer is off-balance and makes a very loud distracting rattling noise. I called Phillips and they said it does sound like there is a problem, but then had a very long process in getting it replaced or fixed.
The system does sound nice at times and has quite the bass- I just wish it was put together a bit better so I don't have to deal with the hassle of getting it fixed.

Easy to assemble sound system

The souind box's volume is adequate for a small room and works well with flat screen TVs whose volumes need improvement. The subwoofer's cable is permanently attached at one end to the woofer while the other end that plugs into the box itself is split into 2 plugs. I looked in vain for a compatible Y shaped adapter to plug this end into as I wanted to add an extension cable and place the woofer further away from the TV than the short cable allowed. I was thinking if I placed the woofer behind me I would get some semblance of surround sound. Phillips should consider using regular plugs on the cable or offering the option of longer cables that connect the woofer to the sound box. Overall the sound from the box is pleasant.

For my apartment, it does the job well. Switching between devices is easy, but remember all devices connected to the box will only show up on screen if the unit is on. It adds just the right balance when used with your TV's built in speakers. Hearty bass for the price. If you have a home, it would be perfect for a guest room or the teenager with a gaming system.

The sound on this thing is exceptional. The only negative thing I have to say is I wish it had a seperate volume option for the sub woofer. Other than that it has a great bass and crisp highs and lows. This system is ideal for small to mid size living rooms.

I've been thinking about a soundbar, looked at the Yamaha w/built-in sub at Costco $190. i walked into Sam's today and right in the door was a display Sony w/built-in sub $90. I cought the electronics guy and asked him about it and he said no good for tv's over 40", we talked a little bit about soundbars and I walked away. The guy found me in an aisle and said hey, we got a Phillips last one, marked way down. I went to look at it $80, i thought what the heck. Get it home, read everything, made a call to phillips tech, real quick, good answers to my questions about hook up. The reason i want a soundbar is because of hard of hearing and poor dialog quality from my tv's speakers force me to use closed caption. the only thing i want to do is for tv. i hooked it up with the supplied rca cables to the back of the tv. A little messing around with the remote i was up and running. At first I had both tv sound and bar sound, then I turned off tv sound. the bar sound is much better, can crank it up loud, had to put the sub on vol #1 because it bumped when higher. So far I'm happy, hope to be able to turn off CC. i thought for 80 bucks, can't go wrong. time will tell. thanks, douglas

Doesn't take up a lot of space

We had to make the decision between a sound bar like this and a complete surround system. This was a good choice for not taking up a lot of space. I wouldn't say that it is as good as a surround system set up but we knew that when we purchased it. We mounted it on the wall beneath our TV and so far it has a great sound. Would recommend this to someone looking for a small sound system.

I bought and used this for less than 30 days. There was a problem with the subwoofer. Fan making excessive noise drowning out the sound. When it was out of the box sounded good. Did not take to long to take a turn for the worst. Do not recomend.

Soundbar Works Great but Sub Doesn't

The soundbar itself has worked great since we mounted it after Christmas, but about a week later the sub started to make a buzzing noise when you turned the soundbar on. We noticed that you could tilt the sub back and forth and the noise would stop each time. I called Philips and they asked me to unplug it for 30 seconds and then plug it back and it should correct the problem but it didn't. They said I could return it for another one, which I plan on doing.

Review 15 for Philips HSB2313A/F7 300 Watt HDMI SoundBar
main function flawed
,
01/09/2012

This tiny sound system sounds GREAT for the FIRST WEEK! There are lots of bells and whistles with this system which makes it attractive at first; being an HDMI hub, linking in mp3 players, easy to use etc. But the fundamental problem with it is that it doesn't deliver the main function it is supposed to deliver, right sound! First problem is the constant noise in the sub which I assume was because of a misaligned or broken fan; it started after the first week and was always there, so it wasn't just the sound of the fan in its normal working conditions. Second problem was that the sound didn't sync. In the first week, I had plugged in as instructed; from the DVD player to the soundbar via HDMI and to the TV via another HDMI, and a Coaxial from the TV to the soundbar. It only was out of sync when I changed the channel while I was watching TV, and I found a trick to fix that which was changing the output from coax to AV and then back to coax. But then after the first week the DVD and the TV didn't sync anymore. They must have expected that because the device has a delay function for such out of sync occasions but the 200ms weren't enough to get the sound on DVD and TV back in sync. I unplugged everything and just used the coax cable to have whatever sound there was on TV to be picked up by the soundbar. I noticed that now the sound always was in sync (didn't have to use the trick of temporarily changing output anymore), but the sound now was slightly out of sync with the picture. I finally decided to take it back. After all, the first and foremost functionality you are expecting from a sound system is that it gives you crisp voice much less adding its own noise!!

I've only been using the sound bar for a little over two weeks, but I'm very pleased with the quality and the sound. I think most LCD and LED T.V.s have terrible speakers, and the sound bar makes an incredible difference. For what I paid for this unit, you can't beat it!

Don't expect sound like a $1,000 system but it does supply very good bass and simulates surround sound very well. I put this one in my sons bedroom and he loves it. Blows away the regular sound from the TV. Works great with XBOX games and for watching movies. Doesn't take up much room and was an easy hook-up on a HD flat screen TV.
