I purchased one of these in 2009. It's very, very nice. Good quality, well made. The top was cracked in half, but they sent a new one. In 2012 we had smoke damage and had to replace it. We purchased a new one just like it. THE QUALITY WAS BEYOND POOR. They changed the entire model. They changed the type of wood they use, the finish, or lack thereof on the wood. The workmanship was atrocious. The butcher block top was an ugly yellow color and sticky oil all over it. IT WAS TERRIBLE, AN ABSOLUTE MESS. I took it back to the store and kept the one with the smoke damage. WHAT'S INSIDE THE BOX DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE PICTURE ON THE BOX OR THE WEBSITE!
The manufacturer did send me a new top to replace the smoke-damaged one, free of charge. That's was nice of them.
The quality of a lot of products has really gotten poor in the last several years.

This table is just what we need for our new microwave. It is will made. The instructions for the assembly were very concise and easy to follow. Having the screws and various parts numbered and labeled was very helpful. The wood is attractive.

Review 3 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Natural
I searched over the internet from store site to store site. I couldn't find an island that was what I really needed. When I came across this one, I read some of the ratings, some where good and some where negitive. I couldn't decide if I should get this one or not. Well, after again looking at what was in my price range, I came back to this island and placed my order. I only waited a day, it was at the Walmart that I picked. I wasn't very pleased that the box was rather beaten up, I hoped that everything was inside and not damaged. The box sat for about two weeks before I sat down to put it together. I was still believing it wasn't going to be what I had hoped. Upon opening the box, I found that everything was wrapped, nothing was missing and some of the pieces where put together, ok, now I know the item was a return! I was sad, then I took out the instructions and I again was surprised that these pieces that were together came that way. Ok, so I took everything out and was very happy to see that the pieces where actual wood, not press board, not partical board. Everything went together easy. It took about an hour and a half to complete. After it was together I was pleased with the product. The drawer opened and closed easy and the shelf in the cabinet part was made very well. It was good quality wood, the wheels where not the push in type, they were solid construction. I bought about 3 years ago from J. C. Penney a microwave cart. I spent $199.00 and this was the sale price. I was very displeased. The item was thin cheap wood, to me like pencil wood. It had push on wheels and the construction was very, very poor in comparision to this island from Walmart for $99.99. I would recommend this item to a family memeber or friend. The only thing that I would recommend to the maker of this item is this: The board that holds up the drop leaf, I wish it was wider. I think the support would be alot better then the one they used. But over all wonderful item.

The good news is that everything was in the box and the instructions were fairly clear. The bad news is the countertop is cracked all the way through in two places, which does not surprise me considering the condition of the box that it was in. The quality of the material also suggests that this thing will not last more than 2 or 3 years of use. So if you need something quick and cheap and only need it for a little while this kitchen island is perfect, but if you are looking for a good kitchen island you will want to try something else.

Review 7 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Natural
Nice looking and easy to follow instructions. One corner piece for the side of the drawer to screw into was split so I had to get a piece of wood to replace it. Otherwise, it all was good. I am happy with the product overall. It met my needs and I liked that the top of it was just about the right height to match my kitchen cabinets.

The cart is awesome. It is great for a small sapce and is perfect for storing my coffee in and pot on top. I love it. It is also very attractive. It arrived in timely fashion and was in perfect condition. The installation directions were great. My grandson put it together for me.

Not the best quality...

Originally, this product seemed like an amazing idea. My home has a restaurant style kitchen as it use to be a restaurant, and has very limited counter space. And this would've been so much more helpful if the quality of materials used would have been up to par. Firstly, the drawer space is very shallow and hard to even accommodate an average ladle. The space in the cabinet is nice, unfortunately the divider shelf sits on pegs so you can change the height. This wouldn't be a problem if the holes were drilled accordingly. Mine continuously fell out causing the shelf to fall and all of my pans to crash into each other. As such, I've had to glue them in. The top of the island is UNFINISHED wood, so if you spill something on it... Good luck trying to clean it up. The wood is completely inferior. (I expected a bit better quality for the cost) So, not only is the wood on top unfinished but looks as though (from the side) that it was put together in a LEGO factory. My fold out section has cracked and split right down the center, making it unusable. And now the top has begun to split in different areas. The stoppers on the wheels to keep it from rolling certainly don't activate with ease and is so much of a bother I cannot use them. (Think of instead of the press with your foot option, you have the pull and tug and beat it with your fists.) I certainly wouldn't have purchased this if I had know the lack of quality this product has. Not worth the money, be very wary of this product unless you want to deal with this level of nonsense.

Review 11 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Natural
We needed a cart to hold a large microwave and provide additional storage. The dimensions of this cart were perfect for the intended space. The product was delivered on time and was easily assembled.
One of the wheels was damaged. Since we preferred a stationary cart for the microwave and hadn't planned on using them, this did not present a problem. The cart looks great and the overall construction is solid. The door hardware does not hold the doors firmly in place and unless you lift the door, it won't close correctly. We plan on replacing the supplied hardware with a spring loaded piece to correct this problem. Otherwise, we are happy with our purchase.

Exactly What you Need!

This cart provides great additional storage without being too big or bulky. Perfect for a smaller apartment! Only downside was mine came with some sort of sticky substance - fixed with goo gone - and the magnet doesn't always keep the front doors shut. However, New Orleans as a whole always has some weird lean in the floor somewhere - this island could just be it's latest victim. I would highly recommend this product to anyone needing just a tad extra storage space/surface.

Review 14 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Natural
The quality of the cart was terrible, parts were not even made correctly so it would not even go together. I knew the wood was going to be some type of pressed wood or laminate but even that was an extremely poor grade. Would not recommend this to anyone.

I was not happy with the product and I returned it. The kitchen island was very cheaply made not to mention you cant get the cutting board top wet. It looked nice but I wasnt buying it to just look nice in my kitchen, I wanted to be able to use it.

It would be an excellent product if the top board was straight. When we received it and opened it at home to assemble the top board was bowed in. We were using it for a microwave cart, but because the wood on top is bowed in it makes the microwave on top wobble. Would definitely be careful about buying this product from Walmart.

Review 17 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Natural
Got this for Christmas and it's been just great. It came together easily, and is quite sturdy once fully assembled.
Only the locks on the caster wheels have given me any trouble...unless you get down on all fours and *really* twist those locks, they have a tendency to pop free slightly. But that's a pretty small issue on an overall great product, so if you need more counter/cupboard space in the kitchen, I'd definitely recommend this!

Great island for the price

If you don't go in expecting a solid wood, high end kitchen island for $100, then this will more than exceed your expectations. My apartment kitchen counter space is basically non-existent, so I went looking for kitchen carts and islands for more space. Everything I was finding was so expensive and I just needed something cheap to get rid of when I move. This island was bigger, better looking, and cheaper than anything else I found. It's a great counter height and the color matches my other cabinets almost exactly. The only thing that could make this better is if the towel bar and drop leaf were reversible. I would have liked the drop leaf on the left instead of the right. Oh well.

I got this because it was the most reasonable for the size. It is even nicer than I thought and went together very easily. My granddaughter and I put it together very quickly with no problems at all. It is just the right size, is very sturdy and roomy. Looks great and is very useful. The directions were perfect.

Review 20 for Mainstays Kitchen Island Cart, Natural
We got it for $99, and it looks great / fits well into a small kitchen. Biggest flaws are: 1) the wheels, as they are hard to "lock" in place 2) the main drawer is weak and flimsy.
The appearance is great and the wooden top is functional as a countertop extension (I use it to roll out my pizza doughs).
For someone looking for an affordable, nice, easy assembly piece.. especially if you need extra counter space.. give this a try.
