The cordless Black and Decker LST220 Trimmer Edger is great for clearing up and grooming your yard. Remove tough weeds or trim light grass even from tough-to-reach areas using this electric grass trimmer. The PowerDrive transmission of this lawn trimmer and edger helps in getting the work done in no time. The trimmer can be changed to an edger for precise and sharp cuts. The flexible handle and tube allows you to move along easily and trim the needed area in the best possible way. This grass cutter is easy to carry around and runs long on the 20 V lithium ion batteries that come with the set. The batteries can be charged back in 8 hours using the smart charger. You do not have to knock your electric grass trimmer on the ground or press on the start or stop button to feed the line as the automatic feed spool system advances the cutting line automatically.
Bought this because my old trimmer is heavy and the line changing is a pain. This trimmer is very light and easy to use. The line is very simple to change and takes just a few minutes. The battery life is about 20 minutes but it comes with two batteries. Yes, I agree with everyone else, the battery takes forever to charge. However, I bought the Quick Charger and it was totally worth it. I charge a battery in about 15-20 minutes. I also have the sweeper and drill so having the Quick Charger is worth the money. Would recommend the trimmer to everyone.

Review 3 for Black & Decker 12" Trimmer / Edger
So far, so good

I bought it to tackle the Jungle (that's what I call my back yard)... This thing eats threw grass even 4ft tall grass. It did jam a few times on thinker 1/2in thick weeds. The thing people need to remember is this product is designed for "normal" use and it performs great at that. I see a lot of complaints on here about things that really should have been expected. It's a battery... they do die, don't expect it to last forever. I got about 20min out of each of them and that was 100% full on never letting off the trigger. With the job I was asking it to do I expected about 15min out of each so I was more than happy getting 20min.
I think the main reason you get 2 batteries with this product is so you can use 1 to trim and 1 to edge. If your edging has not been done in a while and is harder work re-use the trimming battery. If you have always kept your yard edged/trimmed then this will be a great product for you. If you have not, then at least wait till "over working" the product is complete before judging it.

I like the lightweight trimmer. It trimmer quickly and is easy to use. My disappointment is the batteries. I should have read the review Q & A first. I trimmed my backyard only and had to use both batteries. I was expecting more time per battery. I am trying to decided about returning because I really like the trimmer otherwise and the price is good. I can recommend it because it trims nicely and is easy to operate but I am still disappointed.

i have to say i was very leary of the idea of a cordless trimmer after years of having used a gas one. i have to admit i was very surprised! this trimmer works GREAT! it has plenty of power to get the job done and very easy to manage. the adjustability of its length is a very nice feature and the light weight design is fantastic. i have only minor trim work, but one battery was more than enough to get the job done and i could have done much more with it. for the money, it is a great value and has more than enough power to do its job even in higher weeds. i found that if you simply "rev" the throttle up and down lightly, rather than holding it full on... the battery lasts much longer and still cuts through the weeds with ease. i am very happy with mine!

Review 7 for Black & Decker 12" Trimmer / Edger
Six minutes work on a eight hour charge

This item fails on all levels. Trim wise, with its single small line, it takes longer to trim than ANY gas powered trimmer. Trimmer gets jammed often by the cut weed shafts. The item has an overall feel of a cheap plastic toy. The rechargeable batteries are very small capacity, and don't hold very many mA/hrs. This item was to replace a gas powered one that died after several years of abuse... but, I am cleaning up the item, and returning this item back to Walmart and buying another gas powered one.

I bought this for the simplicity, no mixing gas or plugging cords in, plus it's very light! It works great but my only complaint is the battery life. The battery only lasts 15 minutes at a time and I have much more than 15 minutes of trimming to do. Even with a second battery it just doesn't live up to what I personally need. For trimming around a home or garden area it's great but if you have something a little more than that it might not be what you're looking for.

I bought this as I can't handle a large gas weed eater. What a disappointment. Battery doesn't last ore than 15 minutes fully charged and then it takes 8 hours to recharge. At this rate it will take me a full week to do the weed eating.

Bought this at our Walmart store. The battery lasts for my whole back yard and the front yard and still wasn't dead. Much more then we expected it would be. Wasn't sure how long the battries would last. We got two battries but one did our yard. Our yard is a good size as is our front yard. Our yard is not small in any way.

I bought this in the combo that comes with the sweeper as well and the price was excellent. It comes with two batteries because you need them. I have a 1/4 acre property and it takes both batteries to get the job done. We just bought the matrix drill as it uses the same battery and charger. That gave us an extra battery and a second charger. Great so you can charge two over night and be ready for trimming the next day. Overall it trims well and the auto feed line is great. The edging feature works great as well. I love the little edging guide (helps me keep a straight edge). We had a gas trimmer and between the exhaust, noise and being vibrated to death this trimmer is a dream. Its light, quiet and easy on the body. And the best part, my wife and kids will use it (they wouldn't use the gas trimmer).

I have a bad back and need a lighter weight trimmer so I bought this trimmer to replace my electric trimmer. So I was not expecting much from the power area, it used to take me forever to trim half of my old yard. Then would give up and break out the heavy gas powered one. This one however had comparable power to my gas trimmer. It cut through the weeds extremely easy. The batteries together lasted about an hour in 2ft weeds and edging the yard. I absolutely love the fact it rotates for an edger and works awesome!! It gave me a nice even edge. The automatic feed works great too. It never tangled up on me. I only made it 2/3 of the way through our new yard but sure I will be able to make it all the way though the next time when my grass/weeds are lot so long.

This is my first cordless trimmer. I was comparing the 18v, 20v, and 24v trimmers. I wanted a 24v, but they were sold out or too expensive. I live on a 3/4 acre lot and one battery was more than enough to finish the job. I like how you can rotate the motor 180 degrees for easy edging. I have not looked yet, but I am hoping B&D has an optional blade attachment. I have already used half of the string spool after trimming my yard twice.

This product works well for what it is...It is a 20 Volt lithium battery (with charger) operated trimmer edger combo tool..You are now free from gas cans, gas, oil and trips to the gas station....One thing I would change is the design. Make it a two mono-line trimmer/edger. Like the gas powered line trimmers are today...It will give you faster and quicker trim times and double the action at the cutting/trimmer head...I am going to redisign mine by drilling a hole in the replacement spool housing....Now the important part..Start with a bare spool (no line on it). and string it like you do a double gas line trimmer...You take a total of 20 feet of line fold it in half making two 10 foot sections then wind the two 10 foot (line) sections together in the direction of the arrow ...When you finish evenly winding all of the line on the spool in the same direction, stick the end of the line in the first whole and the end off the second line in the freshly drilled new hole...Put the spool back in it's designed place and pop the yellow cap over the spool and snap it into place. You will hear two clicks...If Black and Decker redesigns this product as described it will make a more powerful and faster trimmer/edger combo tool.....

Purchased because I thought it would be easier on my shoulder vs. a gas trimmer. The first time I used it I tried trimming around our 60' dia. pond. One battery did about 1/4 of the distance. After doing 1/2 of the pond, I had to wait about an hour for the first battery to re-charge. It was taking so long I decided to go ahead and trim around the driveway. It wouldn't even cut through a San Augustine runner. And the re-charged battery kept going in and out. Also, the ergonomics are off. The way you have to hold your right arm back to squeeze the trigger, really leaves your arm in discomfort. I had to keep switching arms. Maybe for a small garden home lot with Bermuda grass perhaps.

Review 20 for Black & Decker 12" Trimmer / Edger
Smartest yard tool I ever purchased

Bought this in April 2012. No more struggling with gas and pulling to start. No more dragging 75 ft of extension cord out and rolling it up again. I have discarded those now. This thing works flawlessly. It's perfectly balanced for me and is a pleasure to use when the mood strikes. I don't have a lot to trim but I use it all over my 1/2 acre lot. I do not use it for more than 10-20 minutes at a time and only had to switch to the second battery after three days of use. Although I think trying to cut a whole field of grass with this would not be a good idea, it's perfect for trimming along the side of my house, garage, and trees and is perfect for a steep hill near the street. It comes with two lithium batteries, which is another big plus. Having used others over the years, this is by far the best yard tool I've ever bought. I don't often write reviews but I had to chime in on this one. Obviously I can't say anything about durability yet but I have already used it a lot.
