Great carrier

We have a 2007 CRV. We are a family of 4 with a new puppy and need more space for weekend trips. Instead of purchasing a bigger vehicle, we decided to get a roof top carrier first to see if that met our needs. This is a great carrier. My husband installed it easily and quickly. He drilled an extra set of holes so the carrier would line up more to our liking (front to back alignment). We attached this to after market crossbars that my husband installed. We plan on leaving this on the vehicle until the fall. We take a lot of day and weekend trips so it just makes sense to leave it on full time for now. We are able to just toss our stuff in the carrier and get in the car and go. I have driven at multiple speeds and do not even realize it is on the vehicle and I can't really say that I have noticed a negative impact on gas mileage. We researched several carriers all over the Internet; including many of the well known brands. We ultimately went with this one because it is made in the USA, it is really made by a more well known carrier company (I learned SportRack is made by Thule); it could easily be returned if for some reason we did not like it or it didn't work for our vehicle; and the shipping was free with site to store. It arrived within several days. I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled this time as the other reviews really helped us make our decision and this really is a great product for the price. Others have commented on the plastic hinges. Yes, they are plastic but they seem sturdy and it's not like the carrier is going to be opened and closed everyday several times a day.

We had found this product on other sites but it was sold out and it was hard to find anywhere. It was great to not only find it on Wal-Mart but also with a better price point. Great value and it is a great deal. Looking forward to vacation.

I thought this carrier was exceptional for the price I paid for it. It has a ton of space so per square foot storage compared to Yakima or any other I got an incredible deal.

Review 4 for SportRack Aero XL Roof Box - Model #A90275
The product arrived for pick up ahead of schedule and is excellent. I am a full time RVer and it is perfect for my golf clubs and snorkling gear mounted on top of my pick up cap. It was much cheaper than anywhere else I looked and dealing with Walmart is a breeze as far as on line shopping. I would highly recommend the product and using Walmart to purchase it.

Review 5 for SportRack Aero XL Roof Box - Model #A90275
After looking at other brands for hundreds of dollars more I found this one first at another source, but they wanted $100 more for shipping. Walmart with its ship-to-store saved me the $100 dollars and it was $35 dollars cheaper to begin with. In addition, the Sportrack arrived in much sooner than anticipated. Then when I went to get it the Walmart employee carted it out to my vehicle and loaded it into my car for me in the middle of a snow storm. I am very pleased with the purchase and would recommend using Walmart ship-to-store.

Great Roof Box - Poor Packaging and Shipping

I really wanted to like this product. It looks well made and should serve its needs well for a long time. However, the shipping and packing of the item resulted in a terrible shopping experience for me. By accident, I made two orders for this Aero XL luggage carrier. One arrived at Walmart dented, so I refused it. It was a good thing that I ordered two, or so I thought. Turns out, the one that I accepted was locked from the outside, and no keys were provided. I had to painfully pry the box open and reach my arm inside the box to fish out the parts bag and directions. Still no keys were found! Without the keys, this locking roof box is worthless. I had to contact the manufacturer and see if they will ship out the keys without charging me money. I don't want to return the item to Walmart because it is so bulky, and plus, the price has gone up $20 since I placed my order! If I had to return and order a replacement, it would cause me $20 additional! I'm not very happy with Walmart nor SportRack right now.

Can't complain one bit for the price. That and made in USA. All the ones i looked at opened from the side and had problems of coming open, not what you want when pulling behind a motorcycle, and to top it all off, no assembly. So straight out of box and either put on car and mount down or do what i did, make a motorcycle trailer frame and mount the carrier to it.

Review 10 for SportRack Aero XL Roof Box - Model #A90275
The only thing I do not like about it is the difficulty in removing when not in use and then reinstalling it when required. It is too bad they never thought to use a similar release clamp that Thule use on their products. If they make such a thing I would be interested in purchasing it. We took a 200 mile trip with it already and it did not move at all so it is very stable.

We purchased this carrier for our 2012 Subaru Outback for a holiday road trip. We were bringing our dog, so we didn't have any room in the rear cargo area. This carrier is large enough to hold bags for a family of four (with winter clothes) and various Christmas presents. It's big!
It did a pretty good job of keeping the water out. We did drive through a heavy rainstorm with approx 25mph winds and some water did seep in around the edges, but it was minimal. With the strength of the storm and highway conditions that we drove through, it did better than I thought it would.
The Roof Box mounted very securely and I had no problems with it loosening or shifting on the trip. It took about 15 minutes to mount and about 10 to remove. It's light enough that one person can carry it.
Our mileage was minimally affected by the carrier. We do this trip a few times a year (visiting the in-laws) and normally get about 30mpg. With the carrier, we got 28.8mpg. Not bad.
For safety's sake, we limited our top speed to about 73mph. The roof box ads considerable height to the car's profile, so we didn't want to be surprised by any high crosswinds.
This roof box was a great value and I'm glad we purchased it. Walmart had it for $179 + tax with free ship-to-store. Competing sites were in the neighborhood of $300-$350 plus shipping for the exact same product. Subaru's model (more sleek, but smaller capacity) is in the neighborhood of $480 and higher end boxes from Thule were more than that. Considering we'll use this about 4x/year and with it's larger capacity, this roof box was a no-brainer.

Review 12 for SportRack Aero XL Roof Box - Model #A90275
Bought this SportRack Aero XL Roof Box - Model #A90275 from Walmart on sale for only $60.00!!! Other websites are selling this exact unit for over $200. Had it shipped to my local store in Waukesha, WI and they were very nice and even helped me unbox it in the parking lot, load it into my van and took care of discarding the packing materials for me! They get an A+ for outstanding customer service! THANK YOU!!! This roof box is well constructed and keeps things safe and secure using a keyed lock switch. I do a lot of traveling with my family and use this at least once a month. It works very well and recommend it to anyone looking for additional storage for their vehicle.

Review 13 for SportRack Aero XL Roof Box - Model #A90275
Recently ordered this on here and had it sent to the store for free. I had to take my pick up truck in order to bring it back to the house. If your picking it up in the vehicle it will be mounted on, you don't need any tools to do so. And it's light enough to lift by your self if you can reach your roof, (we drive a Kia soul) if not you will need two people to mount it. I did take one star away though because i had to drill 2 extra holes in order to mount it on my car. It was very easy to do, even with the wrong size drill bit. I do have very wide rola roof racks though, so I'm sure it would not be a problem with other racks. It took me about 30min at most to have this on and secure. It came completely assembled and the directions are idiot proof. It's water tight so far, it's been snowing for 2 weeks now and it's been great on top of the car. No noise from it, auctualy quiets down the racks. Key /lock rear entry is great if you can get to it. Lots and lots of room. Fits my 156cm snowboard. Very durable, but still more flimsy than a $400 one. No complaints here though. Will be driving across country with it soon.

Item arrived on time, in great condition. Was easy to install. Took only 10 mins by myself. Construction is strong. Only concerns will be the life of the hinges, they are plastic, and the rear loading of the unit. Overall very happy with the purchase.

I was debating between buying a smaller one, but i am glad i picked this one because of the space. We have a 2010 Acadia and with the OEM crossbars this fits perfectly. We have not taken this on the road yet. I will update this review when we do so.

it a a cheap alternative the thule and other expensive boxes, it does seem a bit flimsier than these at less than half price; it was easily insltalled in less than 45 minutes alone , with no help well designed for a roof with transversal bars , do not know how i will fit it on my other suv porsche cayenne that has no transverse bars

Took this to Arizona from Indiana. Held up great even at 80+mph. Very quiet and didn't kill my gas mileage. Went through some rain and everything was dry. Even accidentally ran it under a low bridge at the resort we stayed at and it took the beating without much more than a scratch.

Excellent product and fits a lot of larger items. The only problem is that it did not fit our 2012 CRV cross rails so we had to drill extra holes. No big deal though, fit fine after that. Very durable and did great on our trip, allowing us to fit everything including the family dog in the car!

Not all the parts to install were there. Missing one mounting plate to do a proper install. Will try to get the company to send it to me. Drove 2 1/2 hours to pick up at Walmart. Needed to install the roof rack in the parking as I needed to haul other items back home. Very frustrating to drive that far and pay a good chunk of money and not all the parts are there.

I was worried that this would be too big for our Subaru Forrester... it was not. Put it through the trials driving over 1500 miles. No rain leakage, no significant noise, no significant decrease in MPG, held up to heat and seems very sturdy. I attached this to 58" Thule crossbars. For the money, I don't think you can get much better. I actually picked this up at Wal-Mart for less than on Amazon. Ordered online and picked up in the store... it was a breeze. One of the side benefits of doing this was that if it didn't work for some reason, I could return it locally. Didn't have to, but had it been necessary, it's much better than trying to ship this giant thing back to Amazon.
