Great microwave, but quit after 5 months

My husband bought me this microwave for last christmas and by June it started arcing for no reason it has now been 2 months that I haven't been able to use my microwave and have fought with GE for the warranty coverage to replace it. The were supposed to send me a check or coupon to take to the store and use against a purchase but when I finally received it (8 weeks from the first call) it is a rebate form where I have to purchase a new GE microwave send in the reciept and rebate form and then 8 weeks later I will receive a check from them. I will definatly take out the walmart extended warranty when I replace it.

I RESEARCHED LOTS & I MEAN LOTS OF MICROWAVES BEFORE BUYING THIS ONE. WE HAD AN 1100 WATT SHARP THAT LASTED 12+ YRS. AFTER SEEING MANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS, I DECIDED TO CHECK OUT OTHER OPTIONS & I RAN ACROSS THIS ONE. MY HUSBAND HAD BROUGHT HOME A DIFFERENT GE, BUT I REALLY DID NOT LIKE IT AS GOOD AS THIS ONE PLUS THE REVIEWS FOR THIS ONE WERE GREAT. HE RETURNED IT AND BROUGHT THIS ONE HOME. I REALLY LIKE IT ALOT! ATTRACTIVE WITH LOTS OF GREAT FEATURES & QUIET TOO... I FEEL THAT WE GOT A GREAT PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE...HOPE IT LASTS AS LONG AS OUR LAST ONE DID!!

We purchased this microwave Tues. 3/6/12 after our 900 watt oven fizzled out after 8 yrs. I did A LOT of research and price comparisons on line for 2-3 days. I just happened to come across this microwave the day it was posted on the Walmart website, so printed a copy and off to Walmart we went, not really expecting to find it in stores yet. But it was there, and after much discussion between this and a Panasonic model, we chose the GE. It is a beautiful microwave. It is soooo quiet, I often find myself walking over to check to see if it's on! Our other microwave did not have a light that came on when the door was opened (light only came on while cooking#, so this was a big plus with this oven. Large turntable is nice, and food cooks evenly #and faster!). We also purchased the 1 yr. warranty at checkout. We are very pleased with this oven, and are quite happy with it's looks and function. And for the price we paid in store, it was a awesome value for a great product.

Matte finish won't pick up fingerprints

This is why we picked this model over other GE and other brands of microwaves. A matte finish, unlike glossy "piano black" finishes, won't pick up fingerprints over time and becme difficult to keep clean because of them. This finish should be much more durable than the last couple of glossy black microwaves we have owned from Sharp, GE, and Rival.
This microwave is pretty big, though. I wan't expecting it to stick out as far as it does. Now I have to prepare foods on another part of our countertop because I used to do so right in front of our old 1.0cf microwave. But the good news is this thing is big enough to use that Presto Microwave Popcorn Popper we bought at the same time. Bagged microwave popcorn has recent health concerns and the Presto PowerPop (usually about $17 here at Walmart) takes care of that, whether you want oil or not. Air-popped popcorn tastes better than prepackaged any day!

A very nice product which matched my other black kitchen appliances. So black that in my kitchen I need to use a flash light to be sure I'm pushing the right buttons. None the less, I like the appearance, the ergonomic considerations made in placement of the control pane and push button configuration, the ease of loading and unloading cooked items, and a three button push procedure to cook items that only required full power for a designated period of time which is probably covers maybe 80% of my own microwave cooking. My oven wasn't available at the local Walmarts and with normal shipment it would take a week or so to get it but, as a person who doesn't cook much anyway, a working microwave is imparative and the option is offered (at a few dollars more) of an expedited shipment taking only a couple of days which was very much appreciated.

I was looking to get a little bit bigger micro but couldn't get my hands on the one I wanted immediately so I settled for this one as I couldn't find any bad reviews on it and figured I would re turn it if wasn't happy with it after ordering and receiving the one I wanted from somewhere else. Well, we ended up keeping this one because we all really liked the features it had and it seem to soot our needs.

It's bigger than I thought and as I don't cook with it doesn't make sense having this giant in my kitchen but for those that want a roomy microwave this is it! I think it doesn't heat as fast because it's so big, my older smaller version did a better job. I absolutely love the power button, if you like to have it always on you can but if you just use it once in a while now you don't need to plug and unplug from the wall. Great energy saver! I don't even update the time since I use it only so often but it's really easy to be done. The kid lock is also a saver at home since my three year old shoves everything he can in there and tries to get it on...
