Didn't mind spending this amount for a child's learning gift. Easy to put together. For the money it works well. If you want expert, spend big bucks and don't let the kids play with it. This serves it purpose and we are not disappointed.

Waited my whole life(43 yrs) for a telescope and got this for Christmas. It's a complete piece of junk. The movable arm falls of if you touch it. You cant make out any details of a full moon. The instructions are a joke. I told my 8 year old son we can see the moon better with binoculars. Dont waste time or money on this.....

This is great as somebody's first telescope. Got it for the hubby but I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money just in case he doesn't use it all that much. It's great for the price. We didn't have any problems with it whatsoever.

It took a little time to put it together. There are a few lenses to use - but with our 7 year old we are sticking to the main one from now. He was out Christmas night looking at the moon. The tripod makes using it easier. Still working on the focusing. Overall it was a great purchase and can see using this for many years.

What a great price for a "real" telescope! My granddaughter, who is five, insisted she wanted a real telescope for Christmas. You should of seen the excitement in her face when she received one! She and her father set it up right away and started stargazing! Great buy!

Completely not what I expected. Saw the outline of the moon, could not get it to zoom in far enough to see anything else. Read the instructions several times, but still was not able to see more than the moon outline. It's nice and grey. That's about it. I will be returning it to the store.

My 8-year-old grandson asked Santa for telescope for Christmas. I knew this might be "above his age level" and too complex to keep his attention, but the price was about $20 lower than any other retailer's and I hoped he'd grow into it. When he tore off the wrapping paper and saw the picture on the box, he exclaimed, "I don't like this present. I LOVE IT!!"
Set-up definitely required adult help and careful reading of the instructions, but only took about 15 minutes. First look was at the nearly full moon on Christmas day afternoon. All he could say was "Wow!" That night he saw Jupiter, and is looking forward to future sightings of planets and constellations.
I would give it 5 stars if the instructions were more complete with better descriptions. We had to use trial and error to figure out the red-dot image finder, and which eye-piece to use, but it wasn't difficult to the point of frustration or anger -- just a minor irritation.
If he breaks it I'll probably buy another just like it. At WalMart's price of $39.99, you can't go wrong.

This telescope was manufactured very well. It was heavy and put together well. The materials are not cheap and was easy to assemble. I bought this for my 8 year old son for Christmas and he was thrilled when he opened it. I was very surprised by the quality of the telescope for the price. I would recommend this product to anyone buying a telescope for the first time.
