Excellent Tires!

I've had these tires on my 2005 Toyota Corolla now for about 3 months. I was impressed with the soft ride and quiet but wanted to wait for Southern California rain before commenting. I've now driven them frequently in light rain conditions, pouring cats and dogs and last weekend in snow and ice. I think these are a great value!
I've run higher performance tires in the past because I'm an agressive driver. My last tires were Yokahama. These are not "Performance" tires. I can feel the sidewalls flex when I corner hard so the car leans and wallows a bit more than with past performance tires. The Altimax HP will give you the stiffer sidewalls and performance I imagine, but I wouldn't trade these for those. I wanted the softer ride and longer wear warranty. I think they are the best tires this car has seen. They stick like glue on slightly wet roads, they cut through heavy water easily and never hydroplaned. The performance in the snow and ice that I found last weekend was excellent. All for about $80 per tire. IMHO, these are an excellent value.

Don't know if it might be J's driving style, vehicle adjustment, and/or the roads he travels, but such a wear rate seems abnormal even at normal placard pressures (which presumably take into account things like comfort, traction, and vehicle weight). I run the HP version of these tires, which are supposed to have a lower treadwear rating (in exchange for stronger traction), and I'm just 6-8 PSI over the automaker's recommendation. Enough to reduce rolling resistance and firm them up a bit (since they do seem on the soft side), without being too far from the ratio of recommended inflation to sidewall max (30/44) of the old tire.
If I had these RT's (which are 44 max. vs. the HP's 51) I would probably run them at no more than 3-4 PSI over the placard recommendation of 30 PSI (~75-80% of maximum). I don't think it's wise in most cases to run the max side wall pressure, which not only makes the ride harsher but also gives less margin of safety under adverse conditions (road hazards and extended freeway travel in hot weather).

Recommend psi written on sidewall
Posted 04/06/2013
The recommended psi for this tire is 44 psi. You should had not run them any lower than 38 psi, or you end up with increased rolling resistance, the tires running hotter, you burn more fuel, and premature uneven wear. With under inflated tires, the outer edge of the threads wears out faster than the center threads.

I have had these tires on for almost a week now and the difference is amazing. I got these from my local walmart and was a bit skeptical about walmart putting tires on my truck, but so far so good. First impressions of the tire are that it is very quiet... very quiet. I now feel that i might buy a different truck because of the road noise that i hear now, and not the tire/road noise... it is a drastic difference. Fuel economy is a bit less, about 1-3 mpg compared to my old Michelens but that is okay, the difference in sound makes it worth dealing with. Very cushy tire, my truck is not a Ferrari and i should not drive it like one. It rolls alot more than before! Tread pattern is great, looks aggressive, white lettering looks decent, probably better with time as the blue fades. Treadwear rating is 600, had to look that up before buying, so easily with rotation and balances, 50-70k out of this tire!
All is great, except for the roll, and the decreased gas mileage, other than that, wonderful tire!

TOURING OR PERFORMANCE - Buyer Beware

These tires are a great deal... and give you a ride that is extremely smooth, quiet, and soft. However, I find that they do not to hold the road as well as my old Michelin's did when on the freeway. The truth be told, there is a big difference between Touring tires and Performance tires. Performance tires are designed to give you a great ride and very long tire life, in this case the General RT tire which is guarantied for 70.000 miles. The HP Generals (which are more expensive) are tires that were designed to handled, cornered, stopped, and steered better. So, its a trade off... longer tire life or better handling. Had I know this before hand, I would had gone for the HP General which has only a 40 to 55.000 warranty, but gives you more driving and handling control.

I put these on my 1980 Chevy Malibu and I love them! Very quiet and smooth ride. The mounting and ship to the store was included in the price, but I had to pay 6.50 each i think to balance them. They should just include that in the price. Also, they wanted me to spend another 10.00 per tire for road hazard. I am getting ready to order another set for my 2004 Saturn L300 Wagon that is my wife's car.

good tire for the price. like the tire and the tread design, rides quiet, handles good, but do not like the appearance of the white lettering on it.. looks more like a blackwall tire than a white letter, letters are to small.....But still would buy again at this price.

Not worth saving money

I replaced two of my older tyre with this one. While replacing I did some reasearch and found to be okay. The only reason I went for this one was the cost they were about 15$ cheaper than the average tire cost. I am cost concious person and drive my car very carefully. So its been about an year and 2 months that I put these tire on the car and have driven my car for about 6000 miles only. My regret is I did not bought warranty from Walmart. My first tire had a puncher about two months back (1 year from purchase) and when I went to puncher shop they said they can fix it. I ended up replacing the tire with Goodyear tire. Last week I had a puncher on other tire. Went to puncher shop - can not fix it. Either I had a bad luck since I never had puncher on my any of the other tire OR the quality of this tyre is not worth it. Moral... Avoid buying this tire. If at all you still want to buy, must buy warranty. For me it was not worth saving it by buying this tire. Not sure if you would have a better luck.... DO NOT BUY

I purchased these about 2 months ago for our Acura MDX. We noticed an improvement in ride quality right away but I wanted to wait until I had driven them in various road conditions before submitting a revue. Wet traction is very good and they performed very well in snow. I hope they have them available in the size I need for my other vehicle.

After Calling around the major tire shops and comparing prices, I found wall mart to be of the best value. These tires at 70 K mile warranty cost about 90 dollars min per tire anywhere else. These have great grip on Dry road and rain. The only downfall is that I think I get a little less gas mileage. But other then that i recommend these tires

Really good tires

Once upon a time General Tires advertised a lot on TV and had a catchy jingle "sooner or later you'll own General". I was reminded of this ditty when I purchased a set of the Altimax RT for my 1988 Honda Prelude. The car is designed for driving on rugged, curvy roads. The tires work very well on both wet and dry pavement.
I also have a Toyota Corolla which now needs tires. After looking at all the tires available from WalMart and the competition, I have decided that if the Altimax RT is a fine tire for my Prelude, the Altimax will also be fine for my Corolla and today I bought my second set of Generals.
The ditty is correct, both sooner and later.

I've never really liked to drive. However, installing these tires has changed my feelings about driving. I had no idea a set of tires was why my car was so noisy on the road. I drive a 2000 Nissan Sentra and I highly recommend these tires. I hope they last as long as the mileage rating, or close to it. Incredible deal if they do. I didn't get 30,000 miles off my last set of tires from Les Schwab (Zeus, I think) and they cost the same as these. So, I'm feeling I got a great value here.
