I had it over 6 months, algae grows like crazy, i do water changes every week, i have live plants, and still the algae just keeps coming! And its impossible to scrub it off, it takes atleast like 2 hrs to get it off. DO NOT BUY IT! Very cheap plastic also!

I was worried that the filter would be noisy. Buts its super quiet yet powerful, too powerful maybe. You could damp it down by using thicker filter media. I have set it up for a planted tank and works great, light is really bright for plants. For $25 you cannot go wrong with this one. I highly recommend it.

We needed a larger fish tank because the one we had was too small - so we decided to go with this one since it would still fit in multiple locations. The set up was really easy, although you had to pay attention to where the niches in the the lid are for where you place the filter and cord. The light is great, bright and easy to turn on. The little opening for feeding the fish in the front of the lid is too small though, so we just lift the entire lid - which is on hinges and really easy to open and close - to feed them.
BIG CON - you can only buy the filter refills for the filter that comes with the tank online - they are not sold at Walmart. We were able to buy the other brand that Walmart does sell and they seem to work fine - so far. Why sell something online that the customer can't take care of easily without the hassle of having to buy essential components online. Grr...

Picked out by my little one for his first fish.
Nice starter tank but the odd shape makes it hard to put anything more then a 2 plants and a rock into it, and the filter tends to leave a veil of bubbles on the front of the tank. Great for small fish but a full size gold fish would find it a little tight

Hawkeye 5 gallon tank review

I purchased this and wal mart rushed it to me in 3 days from a state or 2 away! I opened it and it looks great, it's got a hinged lid so you can pop it open to feed, clean, or whatever you like to do, it has a cutout for a filter and a heater, and a feeding hole but as you open it the back kinda covers it up but you can still feed, the filter goes inside the tank and I found it to be kinda loud, so I took it apart and put ti back together after cleaning it and it worked quieter, now the acrylic makes the tank look really clear clearer then glass even, but I went to wipe it with a soft cloth and it scratched the tank not badly but enough to notice upon close inspection, so I decided to take a microfiber cloth and try it and it still scratched it but not as bad as with the other cloth, I gave up to afraid to scratch it and looked online and saw the acrylic cleaning kit for $20 and decided to return it. And swapped it out for a aqua culture 5 gallon led glass tank, and will never buy acrylic again. I would prefer plastic over that. Now if your not OCD about scratches like me it was a awesome tank and looked really sharp, and was smaller, although I strongly recommend a better filter if you plan to put anything else then a betta in this.

I have had this tank for almost 5 months now and I love it. Unfortunately the black part on the top cracked recently but it isn't really noticeable and the filter is a little strong for my betta so I don't run it all the time. But for the money it is a nice tank.

The tank is great and I like the fluorescent light, but the filter was way too noisy. Called the support line for this Aquarium, and they said they would send me a new filter. That is great support.

I am content with the purchase. The tank is a nice size, and the lamp light is magnificent; however, after a few days of cycling, the filter started acting strange. Instead of spewing water out at a consistent rate while making a consistent pleasant sound, it started spewing water out in increments and the inconsistency of the sound now makes it difficult for me to sleep. The sound is very off-putting. I was told the filter cartridges could last 2 weeks, and it seems like that's what caused the issue, but it's only been a few days.
I ordered more filter cartridges. Hopefully the new cartridges relieve this problem.

Though I received my two goldfish as a give-a-way at a carnival, they have become our beloved pets! My kids and I are completely new to fish ownership and originally I bought a 1.5 Gallon tank. I quickly learned this was insufficient capacity, even for my two small fish. Apparently, goldfish don't have stomachs and quickly excrete what they eat. Therefore, a smaller area becomes dirty quickly. The Hawkeye 5 Gallon Aquarium was exactly the upgrade they needed! We have space limitations and this tank is uniquely shaped, not only making it a space saver (not too wide at the sides) but an attractive shape to boot. The filter is very quiet (a nice, soft hum) and the aquarium itself appears to be plenty sturdy. I cannot comment on the lighting- a friend told me fish prefer things murky (like the lake or ocean) which made sense to me, so we don't use it. It was also easy to reach the Hawkeye Customer service with any set-up or fish care questions. I put a colorful mix of gravel and glass stones (about an inch) on the bottom of the tank, added a fake piece of coral, some small plants and shells for decoration. The aquarium is looking really pretty and the fish seem to be happy in their new home! All in all, I think the Hawkeye 5 Gallon is a wonderful aquarium and I would DEFINITELY recommend it! P.S. The price was super, the online ordering easy and we received it in only a few days. Walmart, YOU ROCK!!!

Very happy with this aquarium. Really a nice deal to include the hood, light & filtering system. I added a heater, some plastic plants, shells, pea gravel & decor. Looks great. Just waiting for the time to test water (nitrate, nitrite, ammonia etc.) before adding my betta. Really enjoying the bubbling sound in our living room. Peaceful. Our son is happy!

I wanted something around this size for my betta. All the pet stores wanted over twice as much for aquariums of similar or even smaller size, though! This is such a fantastic deal. The light is great and it's a perfect amount of space for my fish. The filter is a nice little one with a cartridge that's easy to find in stores for replacement time, but I chose to just go with a small airstone instead. After adding some decorations and a little heater, it's the perfect home for my betta! I'm really happy with my purchase!

This tank has been a great starter tank for my girlfriend and I. The price was very reasonable and everything has worked great so far. I bought the additional heater to help my fish stay warm. The shipping was fast and efficient. I am very happy with this purchase. One thing to note is that this tank is made of acrylic, not glass.

My 16-month-old is in love with his new aquarium and all of his new "fishies"!! His jungle-themed room just needed that "something" and I found it in this aquarium. It was the perfect size, the perfect style, and I love the fact that it came with a fluorescent bulb...a great nightlight...and it makes his Permaglo gravel really glow at night. It houses 3 different small schools of tropical fish, so it's a lot bigger than it sounds! And there are two notches on the back, so not only will it hold a filter, but it will also hold a small heater #perfect for tropicals who need to be around 72-80 degrees#. And if this tells you anything about the size of it, ours holds 11 fish, 5 plants, a filter, heater, and 7 1/2 pounds of gravel with plenty of room for my baby's "fishies" to move around. If you buy this product, you won't regret it. I'm thinking about getting an aquarium full of "fishies" to put in my own room. :)
