This seems to also warm water that is no where near freezing. And we've noticed that the evaporative effect is greater than without it, so water needs frequent replenishing. We rigged an extension cord and tried to 'squirrel proof" the set-up so the cords wouldn't get chewed on out of the water receptacle. It would be better if the cord were a bit longer coming out of the "rock."

Like the way it sits in the bird bath, low profile and doesn't slide around. So far has kept the ice away with temps down to 10 deg F. Placed a few small decorative rock on top for the birds to sit on while they drink. Should use less energy compared to my old one because of built in thermostate.

This works great. My fountain would freeze up whenever the temperature dipped below 30. Now it continues to run giving the birds a drink and keeps the pump from burning up!
